What is JESUS saying in

He is saying you have to be born physically alive into the world and be born spiritually from above.
John 3:6
"flesh gives birth to flesh, Spirit gives birth to spirit.
The problem with reading the "water" as being John's baptism (with water) is that many believers, from Adam to Moses for example, will not be entering the Kingdom of God as water baptism was not always in practice.
It is why John uses this exchange between Jesus and Nicodemus as the springboard for saying our belief in Christ is the central pivot between receiving eternal life or remaining in eternal condemnation.
John 3:18
He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Those who do not believe are condemned to remain spiritually dead in their sin exactly as we came into this world, but those who believe in Christ are born of God which, is to be made spiritually alive, saved from death.
The first ones reborn was those who were responsile for putting him on the cross.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
They heard the message, OBEYED and THREE THOUSANDS souls were added.
The message is for us TODAY will you obey or not?

a much better argument is that Eve was the first reborn, when her name was changed from Woman - or Adam, when he, having heard and believing the gospel, changed it for her.
it seems to escape many people, that Christ and the apostles explained Salvation through Him exclusively by quoting the OT, and what Jesus had done - - and that Jesus said everything He did was written beforehand.
there really isn't an 'old' and 'new' testament: it is all one testimony.
the entire gospel is in the OT, if we just look for Him there, and He is gracious enough to open our eyes to Him

Honestly, I'm beginning to wonder if there might be a ring in here. Refuses to acknowledge the Cross as the place where sin is dealt with, has no understanding of regeneration? I know of another religion that is quite hostile to Christianity and Judaism that would adhere to those beliefs.
