Can a once truly saved believer backslide too much and lose the gift of salvation? If so do they need to repent and ask for forgiveness through Christ again? Thoughts are welcome and scripture too!
The relationship between Believers/Christians and God may be viewed as having three stages: conversion, spiritual growth or maturation (Eph. 4:13), and glorification (1Pet. 5:10) or immortality (1Cor. 15:53) in heaven. The kerygmatic prayer that is necessary in order for a sinner be saved and walk with God is confession (1John 1:9, Psa. 32:1-5). Because a convert’s commitment to Christ is in accordance with God’s perfect will (1Tim. 2:3-4), the moment of Spirit baptism fulfills the command to be filled with the Spirit (in Eph. 5:18), which means to cooperate fully with the love of God (Eph. 3:16-19).

The moment or stage of conversion may be described grammatically as occurring in the past: we were saved when we repented/received the baptism of the HS. From the moment of repentance onward begins the second stage of growth, discipleship (Acts 14:22) or sanctification (2Thes. 2:13), which is present progressive: it is the process of being saved now. This stage has two phases: instability and maturity. A new convert does not achieve immediate perfection by remaining filled with the HS (Phil. 3:12). Instead, the combination of temptations, ignorance of GW and the old selfish nature results in immature saints committing post-conversion sins, at which time they are carnal or acting like unbelievers (1Cor. 3:1).

As soon as new Christians realize they sinned, they should confess it (1John 1:9a) rather than compound it by trying to hide it or cover it up like Adam and Eve did (Gen. 3:7-8). Whenever a believer acknowledges to God his/her known sins of immoral attitudes and actions, God forgives all sins (1John 1:9b). This means he/she is pleasing rather than grieving God or once again is Spirit-filled (walking in the Spirit) and has a right relationship with Christ Jesus (Eph. 4:30, 5:10 & 18). This spiritual flip-flopping is the phase of instability, and although it is bad, failure to confess promptly is much worse, because it results in chain-sinning or back-sliding, which may be called prodigal if it continues very long (cf. Luke 15:11-32).

Unfortunately, some saints may not appreciate the process of spiritual growth or being transformed by the renewing of their minds (Rom. 12:2), perhaps because it involves admitting sins or having “guilt trips”. Guilt is like a warning light, and until we gain the wisdom to welcome God’s reproof, we will not feel the satisfaction of becoming a new and improved version of ourselves. Woe to the one who become so callous that no guilt is felt when wrong is done!

Thank you for all of your wisdom.

Just like John I crying in the wilderness hoping someone will listen to HIS WORD.

Have YOU received the Holy Ghost since you have believed.

Acts 19:1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
If youre asking about some sort of hyper-Charismatic contrivance of demonstration, no. I didn't roll around on the ground barking like a dog or howling like a wolf or oinking like a pig.

When I believed in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus, thus saved and filled with Holy Spirit that very moment, there was only peace and tranquility like never before.

You didn't answer my question, meaning that my questions struck a nerve...

The first person was added to the kingdom of GOD, the second, the third. WHY DO YOU QUESTION HIS WORD?

If they were not the first tell me who was? I'm humble.
You were told, several times, but you continue to confuse regeneration (born again) with the baptism with the Spirit.

Those who were added were the ones baptized with the Spirit adding them to the Church, the body of Christ.

Being humble means one is willing to learn. You have not shown any willingness to change your mind on anything no matter what you are shown.

Anyone can quote scripture (which is all you do), but understanding it is another matter.

oh?

Ephesians 1:13-14
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

Matthew 3:11
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Christ is my salvation. How exactly do I lose Christ? All this time I thought that Christ was holding onto me. Christ is my salvation and my sanctification. There are plenty things to fear in these dark and dreadful days (if you are prone to such unholy emotions), that God would abandon or abort His children, is certainly not one of them.

"a much better argument is that Eve was the first reborn, when her name was changed from Woman - or Adam, when he, having heard and believing the gospel, changed it for her."

I don't argue I just share HIS word and let him do the talking.

I HAVE NO idea why you bring up OT names???

"since they were added to them, they cannot have been the first"

The first person was added to the kingdom of GOD, the second, the third. WHY DO YOU QUESTION HIS WORD?

If they were not the first tell me who was? I'm humble.

"i always find it odd when people think they need to evangelize believers."

Just believing does not get you reborn!!!

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Acts 2:38 in YOUR WORDS. Peter said unto them YOUR GOOD TO GO, and about three thousand souls were added.

BUT it does not say that!!!
Acts 2:38-39
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

"how many of us in this conversation do you imagine are unbaptized?
because my guess is zero"

I don't have a clue, I also ask but can't get direct answers to how many has been filled with the Holy Ghost like in Acts 2:4?

Why would anyone think they even need to be baptized in JESUS name to get rid of their sins and the need for JESUS to fill them with the Holy Ghost if so many people tell them they don't need to?

Think of all of the blood on those fokes hands, SAD.

I lost track of the Entry I am commenting here. However, It was about why someone had brought up the subject of names in The Bible.
The Fact is: The names used in The Bible have meanings attached to Them! This is a subject that requires searching in Itself.
I have done some looking into that Myself. It comes out to be a story hidden Their Names!

Search It out!

So how do we get rid of sins? Or don't we have to, if not why?

Scripture only would be great.
For the, I don't know how many times now, we don't get rid of sin, Christ does.

John 1:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Believe it or not, your choice.

Before one can loose "Salvation" one has to define exactly what Salvation is first!

I do know that Salvation itself is a Free Gift from God, however, I also believe that although Salvation is Free, the path to one's salvation is not Free! This is why Jesus told His followers that few will make it through the narrow gate (Matthew 7:13-14) and Jesus was / is God in the living flesh and blood!

What I believe Salvation is, is getting to the Father by physically acting upon Jesus's teachings!

John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

James 2:17 > Faith without action is useless.

Therefor one must continue acting upon the teachings of Jesus till one is able to get the Father to reveal Himself! Once the Father reveals Himself then that individual has their foot in the gates of Heaven and the gift of eternal life ( > Salvation)!

Just because you say that does not make it true, IT'S NOT.

JESUS did what he did, WHAT DO WE HAVE TO DO????

EXPALIN THESE VERSES.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

can salvation be lost?

((the actual thread topic))
After you are reborn, believe, repent, get baptized in JESUS name and JESUS fills you with HIS spirit the Holy Ghost, you will speak in tongues.

Then we have to work for him, if we don't and just go back to our old Satan filled life YES.

Do you thing you have free pass to so as you wish?

Some people think there saved and NOT.

Matthew 7:21-23
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

After JESUS sends them to Hell he speaks of FOUNDATION.

I didn't say it, it's what the scripture says.

Why don't you explain to everyone why you think you can get rid of your sin when the scripture plainly states Jesus does?
