Updates – Canfield Mountain Ambush
Authorities have confirmed that there was only one shooter involved in the ambush, despite initial reports.
The suspect was found dead on Canfield Mountain near the ambush site. Investigators believe he shot himself shortly after the attack. A firearm was recovered nearby, and law enforcement has identified what they believe is the suspect’s vehicle.
Inaccurate reports have been circulating, particularly from some Washington-based news outlets claiming a connection to Travis Decker and reporting four deaths.
The wildfire remains active and uncontained, now covering 26 acres. Despite erroneous reports, Fire Web does not list the fire as managed. Air support was requested overnight, and operations continue today. Water scooping aircraft may use Hayden Lake, so boaters should expect restrictions and temporary closures.
Donations to support the families of the affected firefighters are being collected online at
redbluefoundation.org.
The public is urged to stay away from the area, as it remains an active fire and investigation zone. No onlookers are allowed.
