Why does it matter what gods it celebrates? My point is... it's not celebrating the only living God.

Because the point is halloween isn't celebrating a god. It is celebrating the end of summer.

It matters because for some reason this festival is 'evil' but no-one seems to complain about Ramadan, Passover, Eid etc. It's just another religion! Wish people could actually learn their facts before making ignorant gross generalisations about other religions.

Going back to where this whole thread started (cuz I don't feel like starting a new one anyway ), can we get some opinions about Christians celebrating Halloween? Since there's not even a Christian basis for that one, should we go along with it and dress up and trick-or-treat?

I grew up doing that, and I think my mom tried to impress upon us that as Christians, we shouldn't dress up as anything dark or gruesome; that we were never to even pretend to be witches or whatever. Now as a mother myself, I don't know that I want to let my son be involved in it at all, despite feeling like it didn't do any damage to me as a child and I understood the difference between good and evil (therefore also God and Devil).

What do other people think about this?

I always liked it too I'm conflicted about it now though because my husband wasn't allowed to celebrate it growing up, and he's raised the question about letting our son dress up for it or not.

I think people just take Harry Potter too seriously. It's fiction. It's meant to be read as fiction. Just like all fantasy novels. And no one is freaking out about Stephen King.

I don't think taking Harry Potter too seriously is the problem here. The problem is that people aren't taking God and his Word seriously enough.

Fiction or Non-Fiction, it is what it is....Sorcery, which is clearly spoken against in the Word.

I believe that there are people who can read a fantasy/science fiction/fiction/horror novel, or watch a movie in those genres, and NOT be swayed by it.

I DON'T believe that said people are small children who:
1- have not yet learned the difference between real and make-believe
2- have not yet developed a relationship with God
3- do not know what the Bible says
4- have parents who don't take the trouble to teach them any of the above

We can't tell other adults or other people's kids what they should or shouldn't do. We can share God's Word with them, we can share our beliefs with them, we can pray for them. But telling them bluntly that they are wrong, that they are stupid, that they are 'sick'...that pushes people away and causes them to dig their heels in more firmly than before. When we 'attack' others with our strong beliefs and opinions, they become defensive and deaf to the actual message behind our overbearing behavior. Christians are supposed to 'woo' people to Jesus, not shove them.

It's hard not to celebrate Holloween when you have little ones you kind of feel pressured by other people. You think thet will be missing out. Truth is they don't care as long as they have fun doing other stuff. I take my daughter to church were they don't dress up they just play games and they get candy. You can also go out to the movies, out to eat, other fun stuff. Don't feel pressured if you don't really believe in something but do your homework.

We have a big Hallowe'en dressing up party at church. The kids love it and we put on games and cake decorating and prizes for the best costumes. It's so fun!

we dressed up in church last halloween. the kids as well as the kids leaders. we dunked for apples and had donuts hanging from a string. we still did our bible studies and all the kids absolutely loved it. we hae dress up parties throughout the year. we are having one for the rugby world cup final.

leelee - doubt we're going to convince anyone of the fact that Samhain is just a religious holiday, same as Christmas, Ramadan, Eid, Passover etc. We know it is, and some people just won't educate themselves on other religions.
When I was in 1st year in Uni, my flatmate asked me to read a couple of his Christian books. I did, and they didn't particularly affect me. But he refused to read any of my pagan books because it was 'evil'. That' just one example of where people have made conclusions about religions without educating themselves on it. People don't educate themselves about Christianity, but no-one takes their objections seriously since they can't say they've actually understood any of it.

Christmas = Pagan. ( And also we ARE NOT TO KNOW JESUS AFTER THE FLESH ANYLONGER...do you just follow SOME of the bible and cut the rest out? SO if we no longer know JESUS after the flesh, then we sure should not celebrate a day of his birth. SInce BIRTH celebrations are not of GOD anyway...show me ONE time in the bible ANYONES birthday was celbrated as a good thing. )

Look, ANYTHING< or any ONE who is not IN CHRIST. does NOT have anything to do WITH CHRIST.

So if your of the WORLD then ok. Be of the world. But if you are of CHRIST. then BE OF CHRIST. 100%
