Similar nighttime invasions happened to me and so I was reminded by this couples' experience. I can boldly say that everyone on this forum should try to glean information and apply wisdom to your family's safety from it. Few have experienced this, so it's easy to assume that you will never be attacked. That might be incorrect. Thieves are looking for opportunities to take from others. I've invested my life in helping others to survive violence.

There are many lessons we can learn from this interview. It begins with clear video security footage. Then it is followed by more details than I have ever seen on YouTube. The entire video is very instructional so I hope you can listen at least in several parts.

Let's discuss this detailed break in and please share your own past experiences. We can doubtless learn from members here too.

Oh goody. More scare videos.

Mind you, I'm not saying home break-ins can't happen. But I AM saying those videos are not the best choice for proving your point.

Prevent as much as possible.

Move to a safe neighborhood even if it means compromising on space.

Don't keep valuables.

Don't post your whereabouts online.

Lock all your doors and windows, get deadbolts.

Don't keep curtains open at night.

Get outdoor lights activated by movements.

Know your neighbors. Report suspicious activity.

Anything else?

Sure there might be better ones. With security cameras in popular use, there are more available for our instruction than ever in history.
I'm willing to learn something new.
Post a better one that you are referring to.

I didn't see the video, i rarely click on any youtube videos here except the music videos in the music section.

How to prevent a home invasion? Well it depends how much you bench press. I bench press about 500 pounds first thing in the morning without eating breakfast.
When you benchpress this high, then the attacker knows and sees the cereals on your kitchen counters and says :

-Oh sorry sir i didn't realize that you were a professional. I will go on my way out and apologize for the intrusion.

But in all seriousness what @MsMediator said is what i actually do. :D

Your points are all really good.
Under the heading:
"Prevent as Much as Possible "
That IS the ounce of prevention that is always better than aftermath regardless of how it turns out.

To start with, keeping curtains drawn at night cuts down on information that the criminals can get. If you are not home and a light is on, they can't verify for sure by easily looking through the window.

My Dad used to do that first thing in the evening before dark. I thought it strange as a kid and asked him why he does that every evening, even before dark. He explained the story of my grandfather who tried to start a miner's safety union. He constantly got death threats from the coal company. They didn't value the lives of their employees and were more than willing to take lives to keep their profits high as possible. Grandpa was aware that someone in the family could be shot through the window easily if they could see them at night.

Besides that, there have been peeping toms and break ins too.

Have you ever had a break in when home or not?

I've only had a break-in in my car actually. Only once in almost 30 years. And it happened because i left it in an unlit area, which was known to be kind of shady. It was a hospital area actually.
They broke the glass and left the car because it was manual shift. I laughed when i saw this actually.
A thief who can't even drive a manual car so he can steal it. lol

My neighbor got broken in once actually and they stole all her jewlery and other precious items she had.
But that was because she was sort of doing a lot of parties in the neighborhood and she wasn't being smart in trying to keep her secrets private.
She said it herself that it was mostly likely one of the people in her parties because they touched nothing else and they went for her jewelry.

The lessons learned here is that when you have parties at your house don't show people your safe, with your code where you keep your gold. lol

I'm glad you've not had worse experiences than that. That's one blessing of owning a stick shift. Lol

You reminded me of my Mom.
A friend of my cop brother stopped by her house and asked if he could use the bathroom. Instead he went upstairs to her bedroom and stole her jewelry.
My brother refused to even say a thing about it. I felt like kicking his butt and going after his friend who was a paroled ex con rapist. He didn't touch my Mom, but he never should be near the house.

I appreciate your point.
Many times a theft/ burglary is an inside job. Anything a thief knows about is like bait to a fish. Unfortunately, most of them get away with it.

It's likely my fault for not being clear about the video. I think we can learn from their mistakes and failures as much as we can from the outcome. In fact I think that the first thing we see from the video is that the gal made herself public. Then she made her assets public, both money and we learn later from video #2 that she had a porn channel.
She made sure that she attracted riffraff and unwittingly lured them to her location with as much temptation as possible. I'm not saying that she deserved it. It is however foolishness and sin that attracted that to her.

I have a sign on my door that says--
Before you break-in my house, get right with Jesus and tell Him you are on your way because your body will be carried out.
We have guns, know how to use them, and will use them to protect ourselves and what is ours.
There is also a very large dog inside the fenced yard that is very protective of his family.

Someone broke into my friend's house during the day and took her antique cherry dinette set. Nothing else. This was over 10 years ago and it was never recovered.
