Mr Trump and Vladimir Putin are talking about a deal to end Russia's illegal and immoral war against Ukraine. I don't know anyone imagines that it is OK to negotiate a deal without consulting Ukraine. I don't know how it is acceptable to negotiate with a war criminal. I don't know in what universe it is acceptable to trade sovereign territory for peace.

Australia's concern is not Russia/Ukraine directly. I am not Australia, by the way. I don't make the decisions. I can make observations. Is that OK with you? Free speech and such? Australia supports Ukraine militarily and financially. We've supplied anti drone systems that appear to work well. There are not enough to cover Ukraine completely.

Australia's interest in this region is China. China has been threatening to take Taiwan by force. If Putin is allowed to take Ukraine, what kind of message does that send to South East Asia's bully? Australia has barely enough of a military to defend itself. That is being worked on, but that also takes time.

There are a great many "should have dones" in the world. Ukraine should not have trusted Russia, likewise the whole of Europe. America should have made it clear that Europe should have built up NATO to where America was not vital to its defence. It is what it is. Ukraine dropped its guard based on assurances from both America and Russia. America proved to be a false friend. Putin proved to be a consummate liar. He's easily deceived Donald Trump. Josef Goebbels would be proud of Putin.

Of course free speech is acceptable to me, that is why I asked you a question. So you are saying that Australia is doing what it can but you want the US to step into the gap because it will help you with China. That is perfectly understandable. I also want the US to protect Taiwan since my daughter lives there.

As for Ukraine I don't believe that supplying them with weapons is enough. They are seriously lacking in military aged men. I don't know enough to know precisely how well or how poorly Ukraine is doing. No one in the US (for the most part) complained about sending weapons to Ukraine from the US. However, my feeling has always been this is a European issue, not an issue for NATO. It is a sad joke when the US is blamed for Europe's problems. Also, if the intelligence assessment is that we are sending money and weapons into a black hole I support putting a stop to it through diplomacy. I am against sending US soldiers. If Ukraine wants to hire mercenaries, that is up to them, but if they need men then they should come from Europe. If Europe is unwilling to support Ukraine with fighting men that it is the height of hypocrisy to blame the US for anything.

The European Union is on par both with population and GDP to the US. We aren't looking to Europe to help us with our Southern border, why are they looking to the US to help them with their Eastern border?

Mr Trump made a right decision then went back on it. He changes like the weather. He's a businessman, not a politician. He's pushed Europe into rearming. That is long overdue. And that is good. He's supported Israel, also a great decision. But people are dying while Mr Trump procratinates over Putin and Ukraine. Putin being likeable and charming makes him more dangerous. It's what he's doing that counts, not his getting nice pictures painted to give to his friend Trump.

It looks like President Trump is engaging in economic counters. The peace treaty (if it holds) between Armenia and Azerbaijan is another front in that war.
Also if it holds, it means that more Christian lives would be saved.

Leaving Ukraine out of negotiations is absurd and has to be one of the great ego trips of this generation.

America should take up Ukraine's offer to buy arms. Ukraine drove Russia out of the Black Sea and grain has been flowing to the world again for some time. Money is coming into Ukraine. Ukraine finalised a mineral deal with America in May. That will help both America and Ukraine. Ukraine could easily become an arms exporter. It has proven to have exceptional skills in that realm.

If Russia takes over Ukraine, which is Putin's end game, Russia gets all the minerals, grain and military expertise. Ukraine built the world's largest aircraft. Ukraine designed and made the "Satan 1" nuclear ballistic missile. Ukraine is a buffer between Europe and Russia. Do what it takes to maintain that buffer is my suggestion.

If America is not willing to help defend Europe, it should quit NATO.

Zelensky is making bank. The Biden handlers were happy to make him rich if it helped destroy the U.S. Once Putin takes over Ukraine Zelensky will be gone with a boat load of cash.
