I think we keep studying and praying we will learn it is not the words that are wrong but our understanding of the message God is trying to convey by the words. We just have to be diligent and seek God's truth in His revealed Word.
The purpose of the Bible is to lead us to the Lord. We mustn’t center our lives around the Bible. We must center our lives around the Lord.

Res33 if you believe what God says then you have to believe that God wants women to be quiet in church....

I do not believe this. I believe in justice. If it is okay for you to speak in church, then it is okay for your wife to speak in church.

I'm having a problem of sorts with 1 Corinth 14:34-35 which basically states that we gals ought to keep our mouths shut:

"As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church"

I am interested in the opinions of those CC members who believe in the inerrancy of the Bible (and those who don't)...what's your "take" on the above?
Hi Albino Nun

With respect, does it matter what those people (who do not believe in the inerrancy of Scripture) think about the question?

Our faith is founded on the Bible. It is the Bible that tells us about Jesus and His death and ressurrection to save us from our sins. It is the Bible which tells us everything Jesus said and did. Without the Bible, how would we know what truth was? The Holy Spirit shows "born again" believers that the Bible is the infallible Word of God. Those who deny the Bible as the Word of God are not being led by the Holy Spirit who leads us into all truth. The Holy Spirit shows us that truth is revealed through scripture. Without the Bible, you have no steady/reliable foundation for your faith.

Therefore, the thoughts of man do not matter. the psalmist wrote "as high as the heavens are above the Earth, so are MY thoughts above your thoughts and MY ways above your ways, says the Lord"

How about science?

Especially hypothetical science? That can tell us what is true right? Even if its conclusions are not in the bible?

the purpose of the Bible is to show us the boundaries God has set to keep us in His commandments. We must center our lives around JESUS but we must keep our walk on the narrow road and that is done not only through a relationship with JESUS but prayer and diligent study of His Holy words and His revelation and illumination upon the text and our lives.

Hi Doc

I think you have missed the reason why I stated those things. The question raised was regarding whether it was okay for women to speak in church or not. She asked what were our opinions (including those who did not believe in the inerrancy of the bible). What has science got to do with my answer? We are discussing something related to our faith.

Sounds like a man-made notion of justice to me.

God is the standard of what it means to be Just, is he not?

If so, how about instead of human standards let us appeal to Godly standards? Might be something new to try.

We are not supposed to use the Bible as an excuse to promote injustice.

It is wrong to say the Scriptures are unjust. Women are told not to speak during Church. That's the fact. It is the inspired Word of God. We cannot call God unjust. Both in Corinthians and Timothy it says that women shouldn't speak in Church. Women are just as loud as they always were and silence is just as quiet as always.

Even though it's been proven that this charge isn't based on culture, something specific to one church, the supposed stupidity of women at that time, people are going to believe what they want to believe.

Their desire isn't to submit to what the Bible is pretty clear about. Their desire is to submit to their own wishes and or the beliefs of this present age.

I don't usually make statements like I made above. I'm not one to lightly suggest that if you disagree with me on a matter, then you're disagreeing with the Bible itself.

I haven't heard a better argument or even an argument that seems plausible, that substantiates the argument for women pastors/leadership over men.

Because of that, I have to conclude, that those who stand in disagreement, are in fact in disagreement with the word of God. I don't say that frivolously at all.

When this topic comes up, we often read that women who accept and obey these two verses (even when they aren't necessarily thrilled about it :) ) are somehow weak or ignorant. Perhaps it is maturity that teaches us how very strong a woman's faith must be to understand the grace and blessings of submission to the Lord, and what a teachable moment it can be to everyone around them.

God is my God. I have no desire to be my own god. His Word is far more important and powerful than anything that is on MY mind.

I Peter 3:4 -
Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

Galatians 5: 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
