You do realize tongues serve different purposes, do you not? Paul made this very clear in 1 Cor. 12 and 14.
Do you actually believe Paul was acting out a learned behavior?

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

1 Cor 14:14-19
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.


Notice Paul says that through unknown tongues people give thanks well but others just don't understand what is being said:
Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.


I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue."

In each of the detailed conversion accounts, 100% of those receiving the Holy Ghost spoke in tongues. (Acts 2, 10, 19) Even in Acts 8, the people knew they had not received the Holy Ghost upon believing in Jesus or when they were water baptized in his name. Peter and John came days later and assisted them in receiving the Holy Ghost. This is important since the word of God says in order for something to be established as true it will be referenced at least 2-3 times in scripture. (Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor 13:1)

Consider as well, scripture reveals tongues serve different purposes. Paul explains this in 1 Cor. 12 and 14.

The group of men decided to come together and pray to strengthen their walk with Jesus. As they sincerely cried out in prayer, to their amazement, the entire group was filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in tongues. Afterward, they were so filled with joy they could barely contain their excitement as they waited to share the good news with the members of their church.

Sunday came and the men proudly stood before the congregation and relayed their experience. "We were all filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues just like those on the Day of Pentecost. We could hardly believe it ourselves! There is no doubt that what happened to us was from God," they said smiling from ear to ear.

They went on to say you could have heard a pin drop. The pastor actually showed from to the door and said they were no longer welcome to fellowship with his church.

The men were surprised by the response of their congregation. However they decided not to be discouraged and to go forward and share the true plan of salvation. They began a church and still refer to themselves as "Bapticostals."

I share this testimony because it gives God all the glory! Our Lord and Savior will honor those who sincerely seek Him. Remember it was Jesus who said the Heavenly Father will give the Holy Ghost to those who ask. (Luke 11:13, 24:49)

because GW teaches that not everyone has every gift. This truly happened while I was serving at a SBC church in Maryland about 1980. The leaders were C.J. Mahaney and Larry Tomczak.

and Maryland area. The group, which reportedly grew to include nearly 2,000 young people, met on Tuesdays for Bible study and worship. The ministry eventually developed into a New Testament church and later became Sovereign Grace Churches, with Tomczak and Mahaney as co-founders.

Actually it's faith that prompts people to believe God and receive the indwelling presence of the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in tongues.

Consider the Samaritans. They believed in Jesus and submitted to being water baptized in his name yet they did not receive the Holy Ghost. What was missing? Upon study of all detailed accounts we know 100% of those who received the Holy Ghost spoke in tongues. As such, we can conclude when Peter and John laid hands upon them they spoke in tongues upon receiving the Holy Ghost.

Personally I find it fascinating that God takes control of the one thing man cannot control as evidence of His abiding presence; the tongue:
"For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame;" (James 3:7-8) However, with God all things are possible. (Matt 19:26)

In addition, on the Day of Pentecost tongues as of fire appeared above each person when the Spirit entered their body. This points to a couple things considering each born again believer's body is the temple of God. (1 Cor. 3:16-17)

1. The Israelites knew when God was present in the darkness of night by the pillar of flame that appeared above the Old Testament tabernacle. (Exodus 25:8, 22, 29:43,40:34-38)

2. The tongues appear to represent that there are different types of tongues: evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit, and the Spiritual gift of tongues.

Scripture reveals tongues is the evidence God has come to dwell in a believer. Whereas, love testifies to the abiding presence in the life of a born again believer.

What many don't realize is God uses speaking in tongues for different purposes. Tongues reveal when the gift of the Holy Spirit has entered the believer. Another, manifests in personal prayer. And the Spiritual gift of tongues, that requires the manifestation of the Gift of Interpretation serves the purpose of presenting God's message to a congregation.

You ignore the fact that pagans also babble, so that type of SIT aka ecstatic utterance is evidence of nothing.
At least Paul did not command it to be done as a sign of something.

Speaking UNLEARNED known languages is impressive; but not babbling.
