God gave Ezekiel a vision of a valley full of disjointed and dry bones. Bones have marrow, which produces the blood cells that are vital for life. If the bones are dry, it is evidence that the being has been dead for a long time.

Some, including myself, believe that many prophecies have both a natural and a spiritual fulfillment. For example, the prophecy regarding the King of Babylon in Isaiah 14 also refers to the fall of Satan (verse 12 onward).

Israel was released from Babylon, which many believe fulfilled the "dry bones" vision. This began in 538 BC. The further prophecy that follows obviously relates to a future event (verse 15 ff). What does this all mean?

The "dry bones" vision relates to the end of the exile. Verses 15 onward refer to the scattering of Israel to "nations" plural, not one kingdom as the three previous exiles (verse 21). There was a mass exodus from Israel after the destruction of the temple. Some were expelled forcibly by Rome and sent to other nations. Some left voluntarily to escape the violence. Some remained in spite of Rome's heavy hand of reprisals.

The second prophecy declares that God would bring the Israelites back from those nations, which began to take place prior to 1948. It is clearly not a reference to the Babylonian captivity. God has reestablished Israel physically. The nations can rage all they like, but God just laughs at them. (Psalm 2).

However, there remains an unfulfilled aspect of the prophecy. Israel is yet to be transformed spiritually. It is fundamentally secular but also Jewish. In that regard it is unique. God has promised

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes and to carefully observe My ordinances. Then you will live in the land that I gave your forefathers; you will be My people, and I will be your God.…" Ezekiel 36: 27 & 28.

Now unless every Christian in the world relocates to Israel, it is obvious that God has not finished with Israel and the Jews yet. Yes, believers are God's people, but the land God gave to gave to Israel's forefathers is literal Israel. The time will come when Israel will turn to Jesus and receive Him as King. Rather than dismissing Israel as just another country, we should be praying for the nation to repent and receive Christ as "My servant David" stated in verse 24. It's interesting to me that Jesus was called the Son of David by some who sought His help. He also called Himself the Son of David.

Some say that David will come back to life and rule under Christ. Others say that it will be Christ Himself who rules and reigns. Personally, I believe it will be Jesus and all people of faith from Abel onwards. All will be made clear in God's time. Mirrors in Paul's time were polished metal, not glass. The reflection was imperfect. (1 Corinthians 13:12). So we only see a part of the picture, what God wants us to see.

Israel is testimony to God's power and might. People can ignore the Bible, refuse to accept God's witness in creation and reject the witness of the church. Israel is another witness that is impossible to ignore. No wonder the world hates Israel. And as the world increasing rejects Lord Jesus, so they increasingly reject Israel. God gets the last word. Israel is still his nation. He has not finished with her yet.

Israel is still his nation

God only has one nation, and it is a holy nation. Peter called believers in Christ a holy nation. This indicates that the nation of God already existed nearly 2000 years ago.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10

In the above verse, Peter proclaims that believers in Christ are the fulfillment of God's promise to Israel at Mount Sinai that they would be a holy nation and a kingdom of priests (verse below). However, Israel immediately forfeited that blessing by breaking the covenant that God had just made with them. Instead of becoming a kingdom of priests, Israel came under the authority of the Levitical priesthood. And the promise of becoming the holy nation that God intended was postponed until Christ, or more specifically, until Pentecost when the holy nation of God was born in a day in Zion through the holy spirit.

Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. Exodus 19:5-6

Here's another reason God's nation that was prophesied by Isaiah to be born in one day occurred nearly 2000 years ago during Pentecost. That nation was prophesied to be born in Zion, which is Mt Zion, upon which the temple sat. The temple is where the living waters of the holy spirit issued from on that day birthing over 3000 of Zion's children into the holy nation of God.

The modern nation of Israel wasn't born in Zion; it declared it's independence in Tel Aviv.

Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the land be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. Isaiah 66:8

The love and mercy continue forward forever in love from God through Son to me at least, thanks
As one final agrees with Father, Daddy, PaPa though risen Son to willingly love all, not a few anymore that religion teaches to only love those that love you back. What good is that?
Thanks for the post

I know what you are saying. And I do not dispute that salvation is on the same basis for Jew and gentile. I do not dispute that the barrier between Jew and gentile has been broken down. I do reject the notion that the church has replaced Israel. I won't go over it again. Enough is enough.

Before enough is enough it would be good to identify and clarify what you mean by Israel, which can be the land, the nation/kingdom ruled by men, or the people, and address each individually. The words nation and kingdom basically mean people, but also connote rule and authority.

The church, ie, body of Christ, obviously cannot replace the land

Paul makes clear in Romans 11 that a believing remnant of Israel has not been replaced. I frankly believe that few to no Christians believe God has completely discarded and replaced all of the people of Israel with gentiles, and welcomes them like anyone else into his nation/kingdom.

So that leaves the nation/kingdom of Israel ruled by men. Jesus said the kingdom of God would be taken from the Judeans and given to another nation producing godly fruits. In other words, the nation/kingdom of God would replace the nation/kingdom of Israel ruled by men, accomplishing what God intended from the very beginning of Israel, ie, a holy nation/kingdom of priests ruled by God. In other words, a spiritual nation/kingdom ruled by the holy spirit rather than the flesh.

Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. Matthew 21:43

This is the holy nation bearing godly fruit that Peter wrote about

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the exellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 1 Peter 2:9

This is what God wanted from the beginning, and he was adamantly opposed to a nation/kingdom of Israel ruled by men. But Israel refused to be ruled by God, and he gave them what they wanted

Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. Exodus 19:5-6

And [the elders of Israel] said unto him [Samuel], Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 1 Samuel 8:5-7

So in sum, a nation/kingdom of Israel ruled by men has never been, and never will be, God's will or plan. Such was a temporary adaptation God made in order to accomodate Israel's unbelief until the time of restoration when the holy nation of God, ruled by God, would be born from above on the day of Pentecost.

Seldom I agree with you but concerning Pentecost I agree
