Referring to the poor, the poor in spirit. Referring to the broken hearted, ones who greives sin .
Referring to the captives,captive by the devil. Referring to the blind, blind by the enemy. Referring to the oppressed, oppressed by Satan. The teaching is Jesus saying he come to being life and life abundantly has been so misunderstood. What the implication I'm getting at is the freedom in Christ of slavery to sin. Not a promise of happiness. The preaching of better life and the error of thinking we are loved by what we are blessed with taking (life abundance) to what we have is wrong. What true faith is is repentance. And the life abundant is the freedom in Christ from it. Not what we have. If we truly seek the kingdom of God we are not in fellowship of this world. We are mocked ,despised, hated, tortured imprisoned, and morturd. But what are joy is ,is the cross. Galatians 2:20. I posted this to make it clear. Jesus says wide is the path that leads to destruction the narrow path few find it. So don't please buy into Jesus will give you a better life preaching twisted Scripture to think God wants a better life for you in a world manner. We have freedom. From death and hell. What more can we ask of Jesus.. nothing.
 
There are quite a few Pelagian heretics here who deny that man is blinded, captive to the will of
the devil, a slave to sin, lover of darkness, refusing to come into the light because his deeds are
evil and he is opposed to the spiritual things of God with his God-hating incurably wicked heart.

Yes. It's sad. When I first got saved I come to realize my intention was what I wanted. Not a real conversion. Later I knew the truth. I can't live my own way in the lust of flesh and care of this life. It's not a noble heart. Now I understand and now I've been enlightened (glory to God) He showed me my big mistake. I thought I could do what I wanted cause of Grace. I justified my actions with Scripture, Are righteousness is in Christ Jesus. Thinking ok, Jesus is righteous for me. No. This is scripture twisted. I was wrong. I'm glad I'm living in the truth and very beyond measure thankful. I only posted this for people who are like I was. And hope people see this and flee from this sick and wrong doing. I'm ashamed of this. But again glory be to God I'm finally free.

Thank you. I'm in tears. I'm so thankful for the conviction of the Lord and the spirit that leads to all truth and for the comfort of the spirit not only in me but from others that believe. THANKS SO MUCH.
 
I also believe the captive & oppressed are of a spiritual sort way above the physical. Good point.:)

Pelagianism (the “heresy” being mentioned)
  • Pelagianism was a teaching from a man named Pelagius (around the 4th–5th century).
  • He denied the doctrine of original sin — he believed humans are born morally neutral and can choose good or evil without divine grace.
  • In his view, we sin by imitation, not by nature, and we can obey God’s commands on our own if we try hard enough.
The early Church condemned Pelagianism as heresy because Scripture teaches that we are fallen and spiritually dead apart from God’s grace (Ephesians 2:1–5; Romans 3:10–12).
“Pelagian” — meaning they downplay or deny our need for God’s grace to even want or seek Him.

Basically:
The writer is saying: “Some people here deny that mankind is completely fallen and spiritually helpless apart from God’s grace — that’s a Pelagian view, and it’s heretical.”

Beautifully said — and I couldn’t agree more. You’ve captured the heart of what Jesus really meant when He said He came to give us life “more abundantly” (John 10:10).

That abundance isn’t about comfort, possessions, or worldly success — it’s the abundant life of the Spirit: freedom from sin’s bondage, reconciliation with God, and the peace that passes understanding even in suffering (Romans 8:1–2; Philippians 4:7).

You’re right — Jesus didn’t promise an easier life, but a transformed one. He calls us to deny ourselves, take up the cross, and follow Him (Luke 9:23). The true blessing is not in what we gain materially, but in being crucified with Christ and raised to newness of life (Galatians 2:20; Romans 6:4).

As you said, the narrow road may lead through persecution, loss, and rejection — but it also leads to joy, freedom, and eternal life in Him. That’s the real “better life” — one hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3).
