I've recently gotten back into Christianity, however I no longer feel worthy of God's mercy.

I fell out of my faith when I was around 15-16 and made some terrible choices/decisions. I feel incredibly ashamed and frustrated at myself for being so easily tempted to fall back into a life of sin.

I've been feeling really convicted and I've recently began praying and reading the word of God again. But I still don't feel... right with myself? I don't feel comfortable with myself anymore. I wish there was some way where I could go back in time and tell my younger self to never have done those things, to have never been so easily influenced. Again, I'm just incredibly frustrated with myself.

I want to rebuild my relationship with God. I want to get back into Chruch. I want to do good. But I don't feel worthy anymore. I feel like I already messed up and there's no going back. It's gotten to the point where I believe I won't make it into the kingdom of heaven once the time comes.

Is God still with me, even after I fell right back into a life of sin?

Yes, He is. He was with you, helping you to get back to a life that includes Him. Now that you've gotten there, He won't now desert you. Don't listen to your feelings, just have faith and trust Him.

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance." Luke 15:4-7

Hi Aliyah and welcome!

The fact that you feel convicted by your sin is a GOOD sign.

The born again child of God is SUPPOSED to feel conviction over our sin.

Don’t listen to the lies the enemy whispers in your ears. He hates you, and does not want you to be a productive Christian. Because that means more people will become God’s children.

Walk in the faith, and remember that you are a daughter of the King.

Walk in Spirit and the flesh will have no power over you. Confess your sins to Him and He is faithful to cleanse you.

May God Bless you, and make His Presence palpable in your life.

Nobody is worthy, as is written. All have fallen short of the glory of God. Me too I did this thing, but I then came to realize when I was in big tribulation, that what I was doing was lying to God. I said, "NO, it's not that I don't believe, it's because I am lying." I then returned to God right then and in that moment everything turned around for me. My tribulations where resolved very soon after.

You are very welcome! The Alpha course for me anyways and probably lots of others too is pretty amazing because it is so comprehensive... but also because I went through it myself, starting out as a non-believer which I had been the majority of my life, to coming to a place where I realized I no longer needed any convincing of the Truth of God's revealed written Word, and I had resisted fairly strenuously for some time! So it was quite a relief to get to that point actually, and stop fighting, and finally surrender. I was baptized at the end of the course, close to 21 years ago, at the tender age of 49 haha..:D

We all have points were we feeling unworthy I felt the same way I came back to Jesus. I left the church at 18 I done things I am not proud of but once I asked Almighty God for forgiveness of my sins . All those things I did were forgiven and forgotten. The only thing making us feel unworthy is the enemy. He wants it not to feel the peace that Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit can give us. The enemy is seeking to kill, destroy and manipulate.
"All of us fall short of the glory of God"
"Seek and you shall find'
Seek The heavenly Father in prayer and read his word to become closer to him to remove the doubts of being worthy

have you killed someone to get with their spouse like David? Or have you pimped out your wife for sex like Abraham? I think you are good brother!

Hebrews 10:14 (ESV) says:

"For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified."

Here’s a breakdown:

  • "By a single offering" – This refers to Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, which was once and for all, unlike the repeated sacrifices under the Old Covenant.
  • "He has perfected" – The Greek word teleioō implies being made complete, fully reconciled with God.
  • "For all time" – This emphasizes the eternal and sufficient nature of Christ’s sacrifice.
  • "Those who are being sanctified" – Sanctification is the ongoing process of being made holy; believers are in the process of growing in Christ, yet are already perfected positionally before God because of Jesus’ work.

In short, this verse highlights the sufficiency of Jesus’ sacrifice—it completely secures our redemption and ongoing sanctification.

A hymn from an old book I picked up on books.google.com

1. LORD GOD, to us fore'er secure
'The catechism's instruction pure,
By Luther, servant Thine, set forth
To plant in youth Thy saving word.
2. That we may learn Thy holy will,
Bewail our sins and faults, and still
Believe in Thee and in Thy son,
Enlightened by Thy Spirit's boon.
3. That we to Thee, our Father, call
Who canst and wilt bring help to all,
That, children Thine in Baptism made,
We always Christian lives may lead.
4. That if we fall, we rise again,
And in true faith confess our sin,
And comfort by Thy Supper gain .
Grant us a happy end. Amen.
Helmbold .

I've recently gotten back into, are not, worthy of God's Christianity, however I no longer feel worthy of God's mercy.
God thought you were when by his grace he led you into his covenant of Salvation.

Of all the father gives him, Jesus will lose none. No one will take us out of his hand. We are sealed by the Holy Spirit.

Yes.
All that you experienced as a teenager is due to your youth and inexperience.

Many think if they become Christian and are reborn into a new life in Christ their worldly appetites vanish.
That's not how it works.

Step by step as that new believer you learn how to trust God's leading, teaching you, the way of holiness.

For some it's easy to let go and let God do that. For others it takes time to trust,to discern, the right voice to follow. The right way to travel.

Follow the leading of your old comfortable self that enjoyed those things you were use to,and seek adventure in other things as well. Or, realize those things do not bring glory to God and refrain from them.

Of course God doesn't need us to glorify him.

What glorifying God means is,we put on the armor of God that sets us apart from the carnal world and its threats, and put on also the work part, the example in action,of the teachings of Christ.
We walk his talk.

In so doing we bring an example into the world of the truth of Christ and how following his teachings sets us apart from the mundane in this world.

Never think you are not worthy of God's mercies.
You are.

That's what his grace was when he called you to him. And you are still his. You know that when you feel led to return home to him.
God's grace and Salvation, your faith, are gifts of a d from God. And they are irrevocable.

Think back to the parable of the prodigal son.

He took his riches, parallel that with, taking the seal and assurance of eternal irrevocable Salvation, and went into the world. He thought he could spend his fortune and be happy. Parallel, sin with impunity and without consequence.
And then realized he was bankrupt and lost at rock bottom. Parallel that with how you feel now.
Having done so many things you can't forgive yourself for.

However,in the parable, the prodigal takes a chance and returns home. Unsure if his father will want him back.

The father was overjoyed to see his son return home. Repent of his past. And return to the fold of the everlasting irrevocable love of his father.

The father celebrated. Just as angels do when a sinner first comes to repentance through God's grace.

The prodigals older brother though was mad that his father received his younger brother back into his house.
Because,as he could see,his father never stopped loving his wayward son.

Parallel that angry brother with those today who will say,you can't return to the Father if you left like you did as a teen. The older brother was wrong about that. And so too are they.

Now,you have to forgive yourself for what you did all that time you thought you left the faith. Because God has. And he's never let you go.

That's why now you feel, like that prodigal son, called to return home.

Your past is passed.

God remembers your sins no more. And he knows everything about you and all that you experienced when you walked away. And why you left.

Repent.

What is that?

That is taking an inventory of what is haunting you now about those times you described as something that you're ashamed of.

God knows it all
Repentance allows you to recall it all,and give your shame, guilt, sorrow, etc ... over to God . In doing this you release the weight of those regrets that plague your mind now. Release it all.
Wash yourself clean of the past.

Some I know repent by writing down what they want to confess to God.

Again,it isn't that God doesn't already know those things.

What confession does, even if it is done in a silent prayer,or out loud in the privacy of a safe space, is allow for those past acts to be re-called into that moment of confession and channeled out of you and onto paper as you write. Or,into the ether as you pray or speak aloud.

And this then in a sense exorcises the power of guilt, regret, sorrow, mourning,
etc...from bearing their weight upon your soul and mind. It releases it all so that it is then figuratively put under the blood of Christ because you are repenting of those sins God forgave the moment they occured.

Because no matter where you went,or go,you are eternally, irrevocably, his.

And he loves you.
And is ecstatic that you are home.

I know people who, after repenting in any one of the ways I mentioned, take a long hot bath afterward.
A cleansing,if you will, another baptism,to wash themselves clean of what in the recall of those sins made them feel dirty and lost.

They cleanse themselves on the inside through repentance. And on the outside in the bath.
Some I know go swim in living water. The ocean or a river. A full on symbolic ritual.
Cleansing themselves in earthly living water,as a recall,a union, with Christ who is the water of life.

Those who wrote their repentance down either burned them and then released the ash into the tub of water after their bath,so that all that was washed away goes away down the drain. Or,they cast the ash into the ocean or river.

It was always personal of course. And they did as they were led.

As shall you.

God loves you.
You are in his mercy because he knew you before the womb.

Let go of what's passed.

You don't live there anymore.

(❤️Hugs)
Welcome home.🙏✝️

Just checking in to see how you are doing, and I am also wondering if you have watched any of the videos?

Kind of been going through a roller-coaster of emotions lately, but all is well for the most part. Thank you for asking! :)
I've watched the first alpha course video, and got 43 mins into the Gospel of John movie. Now I'm just trying to find a church to go to, and I'm trying to stay more consistent with Bible reading.

I am glad all is well for the most part. .:). I attended quite a few different churches in my early days/years,
which helped me figure out some of the differences between them, and also eventually find one that really
felt like home and where I wanted to be. Do you have other supports in your life? Places where you can go
to talk about what you are going through? I am thinking along the lines of 12 step groups partly because
they were such a huge help to me...

Welcome back to the faith Sister, The prodigal Daughter has returned, I am certain Jesus is rejoicing at your decision. Unfortunately once you give place to the Satan, it's hard to get rid of him. It's even worse when you return to Christ because you become a threat to him.

I remember my life before Christ, I was raised in a secular home, parents kicked me out, I was homeless for 2 years, got into trouble with the law, but I always had a warm safe place to go and 3 meals a day. Sometimes we don't recognize Jesus is with us until years later and look back on the situation.

Remember
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Sinning is inevitable, we are all human, we all make mistakes, your doing the right thing repenting of your sins, confess to Jesus you made a mistake and ask him to forgive you.

1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

I have been having a hard time finding churches for you to check out, but I did find one.

I have some family members who are Christian that I talk to over the phone. I go to therapy as well.

I've visited two churches so far and both use a livestream broadcast from their main church and play it on a screen. I didn't know this was a thing. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of this. 😅 Kinda frustrating because I live in a small town and these two churches were the closest to me. Still looking though!

Yeah I am not a fan of churches that use live streaming, the purpose of the church is for the body of believers to gather together. I know what it's like to try and find a good church in a small town. I have the same issue.
