Do protestants have a reasonable non-Roman-Catholic explanation for John 20:22-23?

Inappropriately, based on human tradition, not on Scripture.
The word 'trinity' is not found in scripture, but the theology is inferred from bible verses.
In the same manner, Mary's Assumption is not proven by a single verse, but inferred from biblical patterns and theological reasoning.

The whole concept of the assumption of Mary is built around the erroneous belief that she is something other than a ordinary human being who happened to be chosen for an extraordinary task. If the gross misunderstanding about Mary didn't exist, there would be no reason to create ridiculous fantasies about her.
The point is you cannot use 'not in scripture' as a reason to turn down a theology.
If that is your argument, you should not have believed in trinity too.
(Some Protestant denominations do disprove trinity! I hope you were not one of them.)
Find me a better argument to disprove Assumption of Mary!
I am under no obligation to find anything for you. Scripture teaches the trinity by clear implication. Scripture does not teach the assumption of Mary by anything at all. It's simply rebadged idolatry from pagan roots.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee;
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
The two verses are actually from the Bible. God inspired Luke to write verses to praise Mary. We agree these commendations by saying it together with Luke. What's wrong with that?
The last part is a petition for intercession: Mary, please help me to bring my message and prayer to Christ.
So you don't know how scriptures teach Assumption of Mary by clear implication. Your church does not tell you that and you are not too willing to learn it from Catholics.
You were so brain-washed that the Catholic Church worships Mary AND Jesus.
Since statues were expensive and timely to make, the Romans, after making Christianity their state religion around 385AD, renamed the statues and temples to fit their polytheistic idea of religion. They also encouraged (and still do) praying to the dead saints for their assistance. All they did was replace the Roman deities. With the names of Bible characters and saints. A simple google search will find a list of dead saints and their assumed powers of helps.
This was also done to assuage the Roman populous: instead of tearing down the polytheistic religious structure of the empire (overseen by a man with the title Pontifex Maximus ... the same title still reserved for the Pope today) the people were essentially allowed to continue their pagan rituals just with different deities: the Christian saints and the "queen of heaven", Mary.

May be when Martin Luther left the church , his church was so poor and cannot afford making statues good for worshiping GOD.
So is the same to many Protestant doniminations today.
