Hello everyone. I am a little worried about asking for help because I do not know how you will respond, but I want you to know that I seriously seek guidance from someone.

I guess I should state that I have not been to church in some time now. A few years actually. Where I live in Kentucky there are so many churches and each church is a little different about how they interpret things. So I didn't even choose a denomination to go with. I'm not sure if that matters though. They all believe that Jesus died for our sins and they have the best intentions.

As of now I am staying at a friends house because I was kicked out of my home by my parents because I don't know whether or not I truly believe in God. I do not want to say I am an atheist because all they try to do is spew their speech about religion being evil and such. I am just very confused and feel like I am on a bad path. I guess I haven't ever really had someone try and tell me why I should put faith in God and Jesus and the bible. I am here seeking guidance from you folk, and am opening myself to be truly taught. Church was never something I enjoyed when I was younger. I didn't have problems with it, I was just young and you couldn't hold my attention unless you were donkey kong or mario.

The only reasons I have doubted God or the bible really is because some friends of mine have told me contradictions in the bible or how could a loving god kill babies and things like that? These are just what I've heard from people.

Will someone please help me?

Well, first of all, I don't want you to feel that you are being judged. I am so happy that you are seeking Christ. Most Christians have been where you are at, seeking for that void in our hearts. God is truly amazing. God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on a cross for our sins. Everything bad that you do can be covered by the blood of Jesus. You just have to believe. A huge weight and burden will be lifted off of your shoulders. That void in your heart that you are trying to fill will be filled up. Jesus is the only one who can fill that. God created us. He decides whether we live or not. He is not obligated to let us live 100 years. Sometimes it is for the parents to become stronger or be brought together. Great things have come from the death of children. I am not saying that this is a good thing, but there is a reason for everything. We don't see the life those children may have had to live if Jesus didn't take them. God loves all of us and wants to see us become strong. I hope that this post has helped you to understand that God wants to have a relationship with you. I hope you have a blessed day and I will be praying for you.

Thank you for replying. I've heard much of that before. I know the bible says that the only way to salvation is the blood of Jesus, or something like that. I understand it to mean, that you must accept Jesus as your savior. If God killed those innocent children because he knew they what they would do later in life, then do we even have free will? I don't want to talk about that though. The hardest part about this for me, is just believing. People tell me that I need to believe in God and Jesus, and they say the bible is the word of God. But I just can't believe that without there being some proof or something to show me that he is there and actually cares and wants me to go to heaven. I've read about many religions and they all claim to be right, with a lot of the same reasons why? I just can't decide to believe one without something to show me thats the right choice. I guess my problem is I'm unable to just blindly believe something.

Can you try to explain it a way that I can understand it like that? Thank you.

I've had people tell me that the Bible contradicts itself also, and it got me started on a path to find out for myself if that's true. I don't believe it is, but I want to see for myself. Opening up your own Bible and reading it might be a good place to start.

As far as God killing babies, or other tragedies that happen...

Something my grandmother taught me when I was little and asked the same sort of questions: If nothing bad ever happened on earth, would anyone fall to their knees and thank the Lord for the good things?

I think God allows terrible things to happen sometimes because there is something for others to learn by it. I don't think God Himself reaches down and terrorizes His own children just for the heck of it.

Anyway, like I said, if you have doubts as to the consistency of the Bible, the best thing to do is to read it yourself- and open up the lines of communication with God through prayer.

Thanks for your commentary. I've read the bible a bit, not enough to just quote verses but I believe I understand the things it is trying to say.

As far as prayer, I feel like its never worked for me. I know that you can't just pray for something and it will happen. But when I pray I am truly trying to feel a connection, but it always feels like I'm only talking to myself.

I wouldn't worry so much about feeling a connection, and concentrate more on just what you want to say to God- so what if you feel like you're just talking to yourself? Let it out- frustration, doubts, questions- get it off your chest.

Following up with what Miss Criss has said, I have a friend who is pagan and he always felt that there are contradictions constantly in the bible, until one day someone finally pointed out to him that some of the things that are often quoted in our society to have come from the bible really don't! So he decided he wanted to know for himself what the bible truly and fully says. He's in the middle of that now. Keep reading! The bible often revisits passages and talks about them again later.

I've prayed before and felt nothing, but found later that my prayer was still answered! Sometimes our prayers are being answered already and we just don't realize it until much later!

Keep reading! There are a lot of amazing things in the bible! And sadly it gets misquoted. Bless you!

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 7

Psalm 107

Now, I am in no way trying to say that I am good and you are evil. Like I said, there was a time when I wasn't saved. When you said something about God not respoding to your prayer and you felt like there was no relationship, it was because there wasn't one. God only hears the prayers of the believers. In the Bible it says "FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE UPON THE RIGHTEOUS, AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER, BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL." (NASB) 1 Peter 3:12....as far as the believing without seeing, yes you might not be able to see God himself right now, but look at all the trees and the birds and creation. Think of how the world came about.

I don't think I've found a "contradiction" yet that I couldn't also find a reasonable answer to. Someone once told me that if you believe the first thing you see when you open your eyes you're still blind. This just means that once you start questioning your beliefs, don't feel like you need to reject those beliefs. People come from atheism into Christianity all of the time. Does this mean they didn't know about these supposed contradictions beforehand? Studying archaeology to reveal fulfilled prophecies is also an interesting subject. The one that I can think of off the top of my head is about Tyre and how it would be destroyed and its rubble cast into the sea. When Alexander came and conquered Tyre he had to cast the rubble of the mainland part of the city into the sea in order to build a bridge to get to the island part of the city which he also decimated I believe. I've seen the atheist objections to this, but I believe them to be answered reasonably.

i understand exactly where you're at. been there myself.
God doesn't expect you to just blindly believe. if i were you i'd pray something along the lines of "God please show me if Jesus is who He says He is"

He will totally show you in one way or another. If Jesus is who He says he is, then all the other details about the faith will fall into their place. all the lies about the bible and everything. If jesus IS the way, the Truth and the Life, then he has all truth, and everything that is against His truths is a lie.

but it's good to research too. if you have questions about the christian faith, there is a GREAT book called "answers to tough questions skeptics ask about the christian faith" which was written by josh mcdowell (who was an atheist and set out to prove christianity wrong, but found God in the texts of scripture and the unmistakable truth in the historical records backing it up.

go ahead and search. go ahead and ask. it's ok that you don't know what you believe right now. because God will show you. just keep your heart open to that. and try to receive His love in the meantime.

Bless you

Unguided, I sent you a PM. It should say at the top of your screen to the right that you have a notification. I sent it while you were online, so it wasn't as obvious as if I'd sent it when you were offline. If you don't want to respond, that's not a problem, I just wanted you to get it, and the computer told me that you hadn't opened it yet :). Hope all becomes clear for you soon!

Great post!!!!!!:) Unguided, I love your honesty. God loves honesty, too, so take all your doubts to Him, and ask Him to reveal Himself to you. It's OK to doubt, it's good, actually, shows you're genuine ;). But, for an genuine person like you, the only way to end the doubt is to have God Himself reveal the truth to you. I pray that you will ask Him to do so. All the best to you, and feel free to P.M. me. -Nicole

I will keep you in my prayers and know that you are going through this experience now but you will one day look back on it. You have your ideas and justly so but try to honor them and remember they are only doing what they know. If you seek Jesus you will find him. It does not matter what your parents think or believe. If you do know Jesus then he will is with through during this time. I would not worry so much but I would ask God where he would lead to me to go church if you know him as your Lord and Savior. If you do not know him Jesus is there waiting for you to ask him into your heart.

Unguided, probably everyone, if they are honest with themselves, have to question what they believe. For some it's easy to accept that Christ is the Savior, for others, total rejection.

Somewhere in my early 20's late teens, I started to have doubts about God myself, to the point I was pretty much agnostic. At some point, I realized I had to sit down and decide for myself what I believed. Not what my parents or friends believed, but what I believed. I got down to the nitty gritty, and realized that yes, I still believed in God. However, I wasn't so sure about Christ. So, what I did was ask God to show me the truth. That if Jesus was truly His Son, truly the Savior, then to show me, reveal it to me. I did get my answer.

Unguided, we can tell you everything in the world to try and persuade you to believe in Jesus, but you have to decide for yourself. Ask yourself this, how did this world, the universal itself come into existence. If the Big Bang theory is correct, then where did the matter come from. If you decide God created the Universe, then you need to ask yourself, is Jesus the Messiah, the one God sent to save the World. If He is, then ask yourself, are you willing to go before a Holy God, rejecting Christ?

i love when people ask questions like this. i know what it is to be confused by all the conflicting input. and i studied apologetics in college a little bit. but there are so many questions i know i can't begin to try to research and answer them all here. so i hope unguided can get his hands on awesome material about it. i have extra copies of that book but i can't give em to you, unguided! <3 sorry about that.

Thing i find funny about most people pointing out bible contradictions, they love to spend all their time running around pointing them out, but rarely do they take the time to investigate the accusations. The see one thing they think is a contradiction, assume they found something and that's as far as their 'research' goes. Or worse yet, they hear it from someone else who did the same thing and just accept it. Don't be so quick to assume these people have really investigated and proven these contradictions true and more than just their lack of knowledge.
