I saw a few videos of Charlie speaking to students, and I was a little surprised

Why is always the hardest question to answer. Could be they are involved, could be they are blackmailed or threatened. Motives for the murder, or the 'coverup'? For the murder, I have no idea... it could have been anybody for any reason. He was gaining influence on the national level, and it seems to me he followed his own conscience and refused to be controlled by money etc; so I'm sure plenty of people wanted him to be done away with.
For the cover-up, or at least the information-stonewall... Political expediency, and/or "national security", or both; who knows?

Kirk was speaking to indoctrinated young people off the cuff taking on all questions. You have to be very direct with them. He was challenging them to think for themselves and ask questions knowing they had been brainwashed in the schools for years.
