a perfect vacuum is a region of space that does not contain any matter

space isn't 'made up' of anything such as matter or energy...space -is- a thing

I was wondering, in Joshua (I think) it mentions the sun "stopping" for a specified period of time. While it would seem to be that they believed the sun stopped, it is quite likely it is a matter of reference (most likely in fact). However, if the earth is rotating 1000+ kmph, it surely couldn't have stopped immediately without serious supernatural intervention.

That would be one hit on the brakes.

well you are making it difficult to answer because you haven't defined any of the terms you are using in your questions...

you haven't even defined whether by 'space' you mean 'empty space' or 'outer space'

i did the math for that once... a sudden stop would have been terribly destructive...but the bible does not say it stopped suddenly...

a gradual stop could have been so gentle that nobody would have felt it

Honestly, I'm not so sure we can say there are natural laws per se, but rather things we have observed to be repetitive. Slightly un-related example, death. We don't know for a fact that we will die. (i can think of one who didn't, enoch i think is his name)

yes there is matter in outer space...a very small amount very thinly spread

in a vacuum all matter is absent

empty space is a vacuum...outer space is not
