Let's assume somebody does care enough to record on a hard drive that you were parking at that parking lot. Why would you care? If you don't have anything to hide, and I assume you don't, why would you care if anybody or any computer knows?

My phone might have reported to some mainframe that yesterday I went to w*rk, then went to the auction, then came home. I can't imagine anybody cares enough to store that on a hard drive, but let's assume somebody does. A computer knows where I went yesterday.

Give me one reason why I should care that it knows this.

"THEY'RE TRACKING US!!!" Who cares? I have known for decades that they could track us. I haven't cared for one second. I have no reason to care. Let them record for all of time that I went to the store and got blueberries for dad. I have no reason to care if they know.

I got it already. But did you also mean the mockery of me that I quoted earlier to be “only” sarcastic? You made me look ridiculous, and I'm clearly not the only one who saw it that way.

And you obviously didn't understand my point, or you don't want to understand it. All of the above, the creeping installation of the transparent citizen, is real and can or is already being used against the people in some cases. In the EU, laws on real-time chat monitoring are in the works, and you can read about that, it's not a conspiracy theory. In Germany, there is currently a big discussion about this because a minister-president (a position similar to a governor in the US) appeared on a talk show and described critical, non-mainstream media as enemies of democracy, calling for state control and censorship! These are not conspiracy theories, this is real! Few examples, and the list goes on and on. And you ridicule me when I take a critical view of some current developments that can or could used against us.

If you had been born in 1900, for example, when would you have spoken out against Nazi ideology or warned against it? In 1923, 1933, 1940, or never...?

Furthermore, this is an international forum and English is not everyone's native language here, including mine, so perhaps that should be taken into account before making comments that could hurt others.

Same for being determined to be paranoid.

If I'm being accused of offending and insulting... It feels like I really should offend and insult you. I'm getting accused of it, so I might as well have fun with it. Right?

Nah. Too much effort, not enough entertainment. Not worth it. Oh well.
 
Maybe people should be more afraid of how little the authorities know about people’s whereabouts and whatsoever on the internet and other places.

The flow of information is so big that nobody can monitor it in realtime, and abracadabra, when there’s time, the info is long gone.

Installing new operating systems on 3 rigs, Linux Mint is one of them and a script i use when installing it, might be useful to someone.

The workspaces feature is very useful but i find it can be seriously annoying trying to close the extra windows at times. This bash/terminal script allows you to set how many workspaces can be open, i've found it very useful at times, it will close already open workspaces:

gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.wm.preferences num-workspaces 1

Just change cinnamon to xfce or mate if you use them.

I never have used them. I mean I know they are there, but I never have needed more than one desktop.

The compiz cube sure is handy for impressing people though.

Don't use them often myself Lynx but they do have occasional useful moments for me. Now, the compiz cube! Takes me back, it was a fave toy of mine yonks ago :love:

One of the reasons I installed Linux was because i wanted to explore the musical DAW software available to it. I play all the rock band instruments and have or have had tons of hardware to record and play live or in studio.... so while I have a strong development background in windows platforms, I want to see what Linux can do to help and it also expands my capabilities. Decades ago I use to use linux to hack through phone systems etc... back when everything was command line driven or in C...

You're doing it backward! You're supposed to install Linux as the real system, then have windoze in a v-box just in case you run into something that needs winblows.

What are you trying, ubuntu studio? AV linux?

I have several mechanisms to provide midi feed, one is USB. The other would be a true midi port whic I also have external to my computers, but then runs into it through USB anyway.
