I was referring to the pharisees in Jesus' time. They denied Jesus was the messiah, yet still believed they were God's chosen. When Jerusalem was destroyed, they out of necessity interpreted all prophecy to mean a future natural restoration of Israel. Those who believe what they believed are their spiritual progeny, just like those of faith are Abraham's progeny.
