Jesus observed the Sabbath every week without exception. Luke tells us it was His custom, meaning His regular and consistent personal practice, to go to the synagogue on the Sabbath day and teach:

And He came to Nazareth where He had been brought up and as His custom was He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read. (Luke 4:16 NKJV)

He read from Scripture. He taught. He explained. He opened the word of God to the people gathered. And He healed those who were suffering. Far from being a day of religious paralysis and anxious rule keeping the Sabbath in Jesus hands was a day of active worship, genuine teaching, genuine ministry and genuine mercy. He consistently used the Sabbath as the primary day of public teaching throughout His entire ministry and the synagogue as the primary place where He did it.

Now here is the example that answers anyone who thinks teaching the word of God on the Sabbath constitutes breaking it. When Jesus healed a man with a withered hand in the synagogue on the Sabbath the Pharisees watched Him carefully hoping to accuse Him. Jesus knew exactly what they were thinking and He asked them a question that went straight to the heart of what the Sabbath was always meant to be:

Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath days or to do evil to save life or to kill? (Mark 3:4 NKJV)

They were silent. They had no answer. Because the answer was obvious to anyone with an honest heart. It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath. Always. Without exception. And what is more genuinely good than opening the word of God to hungry hearts on the day God set apart for exactly that purpose?

The Old Testament itself confirms this was always God's intention for the Sabbath. When God commanded the Sabbath as a holy convocation in Leviticus He used a word that means a sacred calling together of people. Not a day of isolated silence but a day of communal gathering in His presence:

Six days shall work be done but the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest a holy convocation you shall do no customary work on it. (Leviticus 23:3 NKJV)

A holy convocation. People called together. Gathered before God. And what do people gathered before God do? They hear His word. They worship. They teach and are taught. That is the Sabbath God designed from the very beginning. And when Nehemiah restored the proper observance of the Sabbath after Israel returned from captivity the Levites stood before the assembled people on that day and did exactly what Jesus did in the synagogues centuries later:

So they read distinctly from the book in the Law of God and they gave the sense and helped them to understand the reading. (Nehemiah 8:8 NKJV)

They read. They explained. They helped people understand. On the Sabbath. In the assembly. Before God. This is not breaking the Sabbath. This is the Sabbath functioning exactly as God always intended it to function. A day when ordinary work stops, people gather together and the word of God is opened, read, taught and received with hungry and attentive hearts.

So is it lawful for His followers to do the same? Not only lawful but completely consistent with everything He modeled, everything the Old Testament established and everything the Sabbath was always designed to be. The writer of Hebrews confirmed this when he urged believers not to forsake gathering together and specifically connected that gathering to the approaching Day of the Lord:

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is but exhorting one another and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25 NKJV)

Teaching, worshipping and showing mercy on the Sabbath is not breaking it. It is keeping it exactly the way its Lord always intended it to be kept. And the Lord of the Sabbath Himself modeled it every single week of His earthly life.

This is the core issue - the Sabbath is a holy convocation- worship to God has always been on the Sabbath Lev23:3 its what Jesus practiced, Luke4:16 its what the apostles practiced every Sabbath Acts13:44 Acts 15:21 Acts 18:4 its what will continue Isa66:23

The end time battle is over our worship. I posted this one another thread but it ties in perfectly here.

God said If you love Me, keep My commandments Exo20:6 so doing what God asks is "work" and bad? Its sad how the Testimony of God gets so distorted. Keeping God's commandments are His works Exo32:16 what He made for us to walk in Eph2:10 by the power of His Spirit John14:15-18

The 4th commandment is the only commandment that reveals the God we are to worship. Written personally by God spoken by God, God's own Testimony.

Exo 20:8“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9;Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10;but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11;For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

The LORD never wants us to forget our Creator and where we came from why He said "Remember" as the Sabbath is a memorial to His creative power and works.

Its why the devil has been attacking this commandment in every direction he can because he wants us to worship him, not our Creator who made.

Isa 14:12 “How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
13For you have said in your heart:
‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation

On the farthest sides of the north;
14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’

The mount of congregation is the church. Lucifer can't make heaven and earth he is confined to this earth so what does he do against God and the people of God. He sits on the mount of the church and counterfeited the commandment that points to our Creator.

As predicted in Daniel

Dan 7:25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.

The only commandment that is both a time and law that has to do with worship (mount of the congregation) is the 4th commandment. And was it changed as predicted? Yes history reveals this plainly and those ones who changed it boast about it, they claim it was changed by the sense of their authority above the Bible - this change is a mark of their authority over God's.

It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.
—Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903.
Question: Which is the Sabbath day?
Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
Answer: We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.
—Rev. Peter Geiermann C.SS.R., The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50
. you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify.
—The Faith of Our Fathers, by James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, 88th edition, page 89. Originally published in 1876, republished and Copyright 1980 by TAN Books and Publishers, Inc., pages 72-73.
Deny the authority of the Church and you have no adequate or reasonable explanation or justification for the substitution of Sunday for Saturday in the Third - Protestant Fourth - Commandment of God... The Church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.'
—Catholic Record, September 1, 1923.
Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act. And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters. (over God's)
—C. F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons, in answer to a letter regarding the change of the Sabbath, November 11, 1895

And they even admit where it came from

...pastoral intuition suggested to the Church the christianization of the notion of Sunday as "the day of the sun", which was the Roman name for the day and which is retained in some modern languages.(29) This was in order to draw the faithful away from the seduction of cults which worshipped the sun, and to direct the celebration of the day to Christ, humanity's true 'sun'.
—John Paul II, Dies Domini, 27. The day of Christ-Light, 1998 (Prominent protestant leaders agree with this statement - See here for a statement by Dr. E. T. Hiscox, author of the ‘Baptist Manual’)
The Sun was a foremost god with heathen-dom…The sun has worshippers at this hour in Persia and other lands…. There is, in truth, something royal, kingly about the sun, making it a fit emblem of Jesus, the Sun of Justice. Hence the church in these countries would seem to have said, to 'Keep that old pagan name [Sunday]. It shall remain consecrated, sanctified.' And thus the pagan Sunday, dedicated to Balder, became the Christian Sunday, sacred to Jesus.
—William Gildea, Doctor of Divinity, The Catholic World, March, 1894, p. 809
The retention of the old pagan name of Dies Solis, for Sunday is, in a great measure, owing to the union of pagan and Christian sentiment with which the first day of the week was recommended by Constantine to his subjects - pagan and Christian alike - as the 'venerable' day of the sun.
—Arthur P. Stanley, History of the Eastern Church, p. 184

Which God said is the greatest abomination
Eze 8:15Then He said to me, “Have you seen this, O son of man? Turn again, you will see greater abominations than these.” 16So He brought me into the inner court of the Lord’s house; and there, at the door of the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, and they were worshiping the sun toward the east.
Turning their backs to God's temple and worshipping the sun, instead of the Creator.

No wonder why we are told in Revelations by Jesus

Rev 17:3 And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4;The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of And on her forehead a name was written:

MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS
OF THE EARTH.

Why we are in the last days and told to come out of these false teachings

Rev 18:4And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

And back to worshipping our CREATOR

Rev 14:7 saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.”

Exo 20:11;For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

many distortions of the sabbath indeed, many denominations have this perception problem. Still to this day people associate the sabbath with the pharisees of today, keeping the letter of the ""law"" but with no love, no mercy or understanding the significance of that Holy day, perhaps I will write about it in depth and post as a new thread.

Re "Jesus observed the Sabbath every week without exception." (Mark 3:1-6, Matt. 12:1-14, John 5:1-18, 9:1-16, Luke 6:1-2, 13:10-17)

Re "Teaching, worshipping and showing mercy on the Sabbath is not breaking it. It is keeping it exactly the way its Lord always intended it to be kept." It is the way every day should be lived.

In Hebrews 7:11-10:1 the Lord says that the OC including the Sabbath Law is obsolete/superseded by the Gospel of Christ. Here are more Scriptures where Sabbath law is viewed as Levitical rather than moral.

Matt. 5:17-20 – Jesus said that he came to fulfill the Law and that righteousness must surpass that of the Pharisees, who observed the Levitical laws (cf. Acts 22:2-3 & 26:4-5).

Matt. 12:1-8 – The disciples did what was unlawful on the Sabbath, but Jesus said the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.

Matt. 12:12-14/Mark 3:4-6 – Jesus said that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath and healed a man, which prompted the Pharisees to plot to kill him for breaking the Sabbath.

Luke 13:10-17 – On a Sabbath Jesus broke Sabbath law by healing a crippled woman, which made the synagogue ruler indignant, so Jesus rebuked him for hypocrisy.

Luke 14:1-6 – While dining with a prominent Pharisee Jesus saw a sick man and healed him from dropsy, noting that an animal which had fallen in a well would have been pulled out with no objection.

John 5:1-18 – Jesus healed a paralyzed man on the Sabbath, so the Jews persecuted him for breaking the Sabbath law.

John 9:1-34 – Jesus healed a blind man on the Sabbath, who believed Jesus was a prophet, and the Jews had decided to excommunicate anyone who said Jesus was Messiah.

These Scriptures indicate that the main reason Jesus was crucified was for the crime of breaking Sabbath law and claiming to be from God. We see that Jesus never taught anyone to keep the fourth commandment and never hinted that it was an eternal moral law, but instead indicated that it is merely Levitical tradition, and so Paul wrote “Do not let anyone judge you… with regard to a Sabbath day” (Col. 2:16).

you still believe that heresy that Jesus sinned. But remember that Jesus Himself IS the Lord of the Holy Sabbath and will judge us all at the end. so, I do not know what he will do about it but I am afraid for you Honestly. everything you wrote in that post is incredibly twisted and wrong. Is it lawful to do good or evil on the Sabbath said Jesus? Mark3:4

That is teaching the Sabbath.

Jesus is LORD of the Sabbath- what's the point of being LORD of the Sabbath if it doesn't exist and all man does is tear down what He is LORD of. Who are they really tearing down. Its like coming into your house and saying tear it down. Its a sad teaching.

Jesus never taught one person not to keep the Sabbath instead He taught how to keep it Luke4:16 Mark3:4 and doing evil is still profaning the Sabbath Neh17:13 Isa56:2 because its rejecting God's blessing Isa56:2 which is really rejecting the LORD of the Sabbath Eze22:26 Exo20:11

Actually, by teaching about the sabbath and how to keep it properly, JESUS CONFIRMED IT! So anyone saying he did not ask people to keep it are in error. if we did not have to keep it he would not have taught about it in depth like he did and gave us the example also.

No, I believe the truth that doing good every day including the Sabbath is NOT sinful. The Sabbath and other Levitical laws were intended to separate the Jews from the Gentiles until the advent of Messiah fulfilled that purpose, which inaugurated the age of the Spirit and Church for all (Gal. 3:28), which is why Heb. 7:11-10:1 says the OC way of being saved via obeying the Law was superseded by cooperation with Christ/the Gospel, which is elaborated in the following Scripture:
  1. There is a/one all-loving and just Lord or Creator God (Deut. 6:4, John 3:16, 2Thes. 1:6), who loves sinful humanity (Rom. 5:6-8, John 3:16) and who is both able (2Tim. 1:12) and willing (1Tim. 2:3-4, Ezek. 33:11) to provide all morally accountable human beings salvation or heaven—a wonderful life full of love, joy and peace forever.
  2. Human beings are selfish or sinful (Rom. 3:23, 2Tim. 3:2-4, Col. 3:5), miserable (Gal. 5:19-21), and hopeless (Eph. 2:12) or hell-bound at the judgment (Matt. 23:33 & 25:46) when they reject God’s salvation (John 3:18, Rom. 2:5-11).
  3. Jesus is God’s Messiah/Christ and incarnate Son, the way that God has chosen (John 3:16, Acts 16:30-31, Phil. 2:9-11) of providing salvation by means of his atoning death on the cross for the payment of the penalty for the sins of humanity (Rom. 3:22-25 & 5:9-11), followed by his resurrection to reign in heaven (1Cor. 15:14-28).
  4. Thus, every person who hears the NT Gospel needs to repent and accept God’s grace or justification in Jesus as Christ/Messiah the Lord or Supreme Commander (Luke 2:11, John 14:6, Acts 16:31), at which moment God’s loving Holy Spirit of Christ indwells/baptizes the believer into the church (Rev. 3:20, Rom. 5:5, 1Cor. 12:13).
  5. Loving Christ Jesus as Lord (Luke 2:11), God the Son (Matt. 16:16) or God in the human dimension (Col. 2:9) means reflecting divine love (DL) as empowered by the Holy Spirit, thereby obeying His command to love one another (Matt. 7:21, 22:37-40, John 13:35, Rom. 13:9)—forever (Matt. 10:22, Psa. 113:2), which will eventually achieve spiritual maturity on earth and heaven after Christ returns at God’s resurrection (John 14:6, 17&26, Rom. 8:6-17, Gal. 6:7-9, Eph. 1:13-14, Phil. 3:12-16, Heb. 10:36, 12:1, Jam. 1:2-4).

Unfortunately, ou confuse the Ten Commandment sabbath, the fourth Commandment, part of God's eternal Covenant and the ceremonial sabbath(S). There were more than ten of them. Please verify this on your own, if you cant find the info i will do it for you but it is best you search for this truth yourself if you value truth and I am certain you do.

It seems obvious to me that the NC/Gospel cleared the decks of salvation via obeying the OC/Law, however many sabbaths there were. Thus, there is no need to count them.

Per Scripture including Heb. 7:11-10:1, Gal. 3:28 and Col. 2:16, it is unfortunate you have the tendency to revert to salvation via works regarding this doctrine--or perhaps because we are talking about Sabbath law, we should say NOT working--because as I opined on another thread, your understanding seems correct or to jibes with mine/GW otherwise.

Matthew 26:27-29
Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."

1 Corinthians 11:25-26
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.

2 Corinthians 5:17-20
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

Romans 8:3-4
For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:18
For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation

On the farthest sides of the north;

And they even admit where it came from

Which God said is the greatest abomination

Hebrews 10:10
By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Philippians 3:3
For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,

James 2:8-12
If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder."Now if you do not commit adultery but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty.

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” However, New Testament passages clarify that Jesus is the agent through whom all things were created.

Jesus is identified as the Creator in several key verses:

  • John 1:3: “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.”
  • Colossians 1:16: “For in him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible… all things were created through him and for him.”
  • Hebrews 1:2: “In these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.”
These passages, along with others like 1 Corinthians 8:6 and Romans 11:36, affirm that Jesus, as part of the Trinity, is the divine agent of creation. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all involved in creation, but Jesus is specifically named as the one through whom all things came into being. Thus, while Genesis attributes creation to God, the New Testament reveals that God the Son (Jesus) is the active Creator.

You have no power to prevent God from changing what He determines to change!
... And God says, " I change not" Malachi 3:6 states, "For I am the LORD, I change not;
And YOU GWH have no power to change what God has determined, by His creating ... eg. His Seventh Day Sabbath !:-)

Regarding the Sabbath Law, one needs to discern the correct doctrine for Christians by considering the following:
1. The first reference to the Sabbath in the OT is found in Gen. 2:2-3, “God rested from His work and rested on the seventh day and made it holy.”
2. Moses promulgated the Sabbath law as the 4th of the Ten Commandments in Exo. 20:8-11, cf. Lev. 19:3&30, Deut. 5:12-15.
3. Other OT references to the Sabbath include 2Chron. 2:4, Isa. 56:2-6, Jer. 17:21-27 and Ezek. 20:12.

In the NT we find the following regarding the Sabbath:
1. Jesus declared that he is Lord of the Sabbath and it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath (in Matt. 12:1-12), healing a crippled woman on the Sabbath (in Luke 13:10-16).
2. If Jesus thought keeping the Sabbath was an important law, he would have affirmed it on these two occasions, but he did not specifically nullify it either, which jibes/harmonizes perfectly with Paul.
3. Paul taught that a person may rest on the Sabbath or not (in Col. 2:16, Gal. 4:9-11 & Rom. 14:5).
4. Paul taught that Christ’s crucifixion abolished the law and commandments that separated the Jews and Gentiles (Eph. 2:13-16).
5. Paul taught that the law was powerless to save because of humanity’s sinful nature, so God sent His Son and the Holy Spirit to save believers in Christ (Rom. 8:1-17).
6. Paul indicated that God disqualifies those who reject the Gospel (Rom. 9:1-5, 30-32, 1o:1-13, 16-21) and that reversion nullifies conversion (Gal. 1:6-9).
7. Hebrews encourages Christians to enter God’s Sabbath rest by persevering faith in Christ’s atonement (Heb. 2:14-4:11).

“Now why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?" Luke 6:46

If ye love me, keep my commandments. (john 14:15)

You're not my Lord. However, in order for you to post that, you must be assuming I sin on purpose and look for ways to do so.

You really do have a low opinion of us common Christians.

I'll just let go the fact that your commandment theme has been addressed low these almost 280 pages including the fact that Christ has fulfilled all the commandments and you and I never will which is why He had to die in our place. None of that means people who are not of your persuasion sin more than you do. Both of us and everyone else, need Jesus.

I guess you must be currently on repeat since it's the Sabbath and all, and work should be avoided.

A person might ask why do you mr v, skip over these scripture and accuse anyone of breaking commandments?

Ephesians 2:18

I know I have access or may go before the Father through the Holy Spirit so I know my sins are forgiven.

Do you not have that access and so must depend on your own 'works'?
