I don't know much about the feminist movement in the USA so perhaps someone can enlighten me ? I think it really took root in Europe during the second world war . Women did a lot of things that the men did . My grandma , in her early twenties , was in London during the blitz , fighting the German air force by firing an anti aircraft gun at them , this was serious stuff ! Women were spies that died willingly without giving away secrets , they played an enormous role . To then , after the war , b treated as inferior citizens , told they can't do this that or the other just because they were women . Paid less for doing the same jobs etc . Treated as sex objects in the media . I can't imagine how hurt and angry that generation of women must have felt after all the things they did and suffered during the second world war . Unbelievable .
I dont know what part American women played but I'm sure they must have certainly lost loved ones . Both my grandma and grandad certainly suffered from PTSD , depression and anxiety after the war , they received no help with these problems . My grandad was pretty tough but I know that after what my grandma had to do and witness during that time , she was a bag of nerves for the rest of her life and she lived until 1999 . That's a long time to remember .

I'm not american, but I'm sure feminism has been around in some form or other in the US before the second world war. Its just my country NZ was the first to give women suffrage. They had a huge battle on their hands with the men.

Have you seen the movie Gone With the Wind or read the book? That was written in 1936 and was about the American civil war (1860s?) between the confederates and the yankees. It is fiction and it does gloss over most of the race relations and tensions but the central character, Scarlett, does everything a man does and double the burden and hardship because she is a woman.

She is the head of the household, she runs a business, she pays the taxes. She works like a fieldhand in the plantation. She does all this to survive, because where are the useless men? I'm sorry they were off playing war.

That was actually the deadliest conflict in U.S. history, with an estimated 620,000 to 750,000 deaths, a figure that exceeds the combined death toll of all other American wars from the Revolutionary War through the Korean War.

In 1860, the U.S. population was roughly 31 million; 2% of the population died in the conflict, a proportion that would equate to over 6 million deaths today.

The vast majority of these deaths resulted from disease and infection rather than direct combat, with nearly as many men dying in captivity as were killed in the entire Vietnam War. Antiseptic procedures were invented after the American Civil War.

So the women stepped in where they needed to.

I think it was a very important war for the US econominally, for the fate of each state in the union deciding if the slave states can renain so, and most importantly, for the black people. I'm glad they're not subject to slavery anymore.

So God put Satan straight about that and won the war. Those men died for that and weren't just "playing" war.

I just wrote 'playing war' as that was how the book GWTW presented it in Scarlett O'Hara's eyes.

Obviously a lot more to it than that.

It sure changed the USA. Before that the US wasn't even the US it was like two different countries.

I *think* the original founding states were just called 'New England' before that. Correct me if I'm wrong. As I said I don't know too much about US history. There's also Louisiana (French), New Mexico (Mexico) California (Spanish) Pennsylvania (Dutch) New Jersey (Jersey) New York (York) well everywhere was a new version of some other people wanting extra land.

I really don't know if the US embraced feminism as late to the party, plus many american males just seemed to hate the idea of a female president.

I'm female and I don't believe in placing my vote on a candidate just because they have xx chromosomes and a uvula.

Don't believe the mainstream media when they say the US men don't like female candidates just because of their gender. The candidate should be strong leaders who are watching out for our country - that's what all good and responsible US voters are looking for.

er, nobody says you have to vote for a female just because they are a female.
Strong leaders ---well, one country's strong leader is another's despot/tyrant.
A lot of people disliked Margaret Thatcher but not because she was female.

Besides, how would the US males even know what a female leader is like if they never had one. I definitely sense a bit of disconnect there, and this is not from mainstream media. I do not bother with the news, it's all trash and fake/biased. This is just the general attitude of men. Have they ever had a female president? No. Would they ever have one? I wouldn't bet on it.

RBG had to fight for women's rights. If it was that easy she wouldn't have had to do it. It would have been automatically be enshrined in the law.

Seems silly when men will put down women and you see it in the playground - 'you throw like a girl' even if you ARE a girl. Girls are only respected if they throw like a boy. If weakness is despised, then a lot of the male presidents would have failed too due to their ineffectiveness and self-interest. Including the current one.

Presidential candidates have to have some leadership experience to be considered, right? So far, no female candidates in the US have come out strong on either side for me to vote for them.

Worry about your own country please.

Oh... Yeah, no, that's not gonna happen. She has enough worry to spare for multiple countries. She worries her little self to death over the royal family in britain.

She doesn't really know anything about all the countries she worries about. But that doesn't stop her! She can imagine stuff with the best of them.

Plus we have heaps of people who've left Britain to settle here, because their country was so bad.

We don't get Americans except the wealthy ones who can afford it. The americans are the worst because they put things on TV that aren't true.
 
If you want to talk about Americans, then most the people on here are, and I find them the most arrogant AND clueless people on earth.
 
Their leaders are so bad! I can't even.

They make other countries suffer from their stupid, stupid mistakes.
 
Suze sorry, but yea the females from America on this thread, even this forum are not answering because they can't. They don't seem to know anything about what you are asking. The males too.

I guess that's all I have to say on the topic. You can come to your own conclusion.

It might be better to ask this in the politics or conspiracy forum lol
 
And the two who posted above, I doubt have ever been to Europe.
