Jesus is saying 'A' is like 'B', where something in the parable is similar to his target idea. In this case, the act of building is the same or similar to acting on what Jesus taught.

In the parable, “building” is Jesus’ metaphor for the entire process of shaping your life around His teaching, and “acting on His words” is the thing that corresponds to building on the rock.
What happens if we do not shape our life around Jesus' teachings?

Spend the requisite amount of time to see it for yourself.

John 9:39-41
39And Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.”

40Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, “We are not blind too, are we?” 41Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, ‘We see,’ your sin remains.

Scenario 1:
When you build on the foundation of Jesus Christ (doctrine), your house will be maintained through storms that life throws at you.

If you hear His word, but decide to build on some other foundation, other than Jesus Christ, the storms that life will throw at you will cause complete devastation.

Scenario 2:
Hearing and doing His word is like a wise man that built his house on the rock. It’s solid and indestructible.

Hearing and not doing is like the foolish man who built his house on the sand/ beach. The winds and water came up and destroyed the house.
Those 2 words are the only really difference.

They both hear.

Note that the word that speaks of 'foundation' Matt7:25 is not mentioned or repeated in the 'not-doer' part.

Obviously the rock is Jesus Christ and the foundation is doing what He says.

He didn't say not worship Him either but that was included in the Ten Commandments He was quoting from saying not to break the least of these commandments.

Can you point out where Jesus said-

Those appear to be your words not Christ's. something where God asked us not to add to His. Is it your view that God gives us commandments that He judges over that can't be kept? James2:11-12 Ecc12:13-14 Rev11:18-19 We have a very different view of God, my view is that we can keep the commandment of God through our love and the power of the Holy Spirit John14:15-18 because that's what the Bible teaches Rev14:12 However sadly many will not subject themselves to the law of God Rom8:7-8 and its not a good position to be in once He returns Mat7:23

At the death of Christ He took that wall of separation down, now both Jews and Gentiles can worship Him on the Sabbath just as He indicated His house would be a house of prayer for all nations- everyone who joins themselves to the LORD, loves His name and serves Him and keeps the Sabbath Isa56:6-7

Sure it is, if you love Me keep My commandments John14:15 Exo20:6 you will be hard-pressed to prove the 4th commandment is not a commandment of God.

Those again appear to be your words and not Scripture.

Another verse out of context I provided that here https://christianchat.com/threads/loss-of-salvation.215327/post-5717144 Keep in mind Paul taught everything must be according to Christ. Col2:8 Christ quoted the OT and said man should live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Mat4:4 So no Paul never countermanded Christ and Christ over and over again said to keep the Sabbath and not profane it.

Well you could be the first to actually do a Bible study on the passage I provided the context and show where there is error. Because one says so is not a really good argument.

Another statement not found in our Bibles. I can go through the covenant with you if you want but it still has God's laws Heb8:10 not new ones because God doesn;t make mistakes Psa 19:7 Psa89:34 Mat5:18-30, we do by our rebellion.
Look pay attention to what I'm telling you Christianity does not include following anything in the Torah the 613 Commandments of God in fact if you think that it's going to benefit you of anything to follow them other than the Nostalgia of what it must have been like in the first century and prior you're sadly mistaken.

Jesus did not Usher in A Renewed Covenant he ushered in a New Covenant and his command to follow his Commandments and your inability to see them in the New Testament is only evidence that you haven't read the New Testament

Jesus gives us plenty of commands. You're simply reiterating the views that the judaizers did and the first century that was dealt with. Congratulations on being a first century converted Jew with some basic misunderstanding of Christianity

What you need to do is own up to the fact that you have failed to understand Christianity as Jesus and the apostles laid it out and go back without presupposition, without changing the meaning of Paul's statements, and without redefining the words in the Old Testament as well as the new and .....also.... most importantly understand what Jesus Christ did on the cross for all Humanity.

And while Jesus is God he didn't say follow my father's commands from the Old Testament in the Mosaic law, he said follow MY commandments...

He best example I can think of is he said I give to you a new command that you love God and love your neighbor

Why did Jesus say this was a new command as it is also mentioned in the Torah.... the reason is simple because it is a new covenant and he is defining its key teaching which all of Israel missed in the old Covenant

You're not going to throw overthrow 2,000 years of Christianity with the heresy that was defeated in the first century

Consider 2nd Corinthians 3:14. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away
You know legion....
your reply (Si no) is VERY interesting.

It could have two different meanings:

1. si to my first comment and no to my second comment.

OR

2. Si no as it is used in replying to someone in the Italian language.
This would necessitate knowing Italian at the cultural level.
Which is it??
Hehe.. I don't speak Italian it's a misspelling

What did Israel miss in the "old" covenant?
What is the key teaching of the New Covenant?

Sorry, but you practically tagged me in.
I'd like to see the answers but I won't be engaging much in this discussion.

@JayWalker, did you see my question to you?

What about those that advocate for Christians living in sin then lying about claiming they are still in right standing with the Lord?

Please clarify. Are you saying that those who disagree with works-based salvation and/or retention of salvation, are promoters of living in sin?

If so, how did you arrive at that conclusion?

MM

Curious, why did you mention the Catholic church? They didn’t even start till a few centuries post Christ’s death. Odd!

Because all the Saturday people always claim that it was the catholics that made everybody start having church on Sundays.

You gotta keep up man.

Oh, so you think we shouldn’t even discuss this? I’ve lost your point here. (?)

Why would I bee discussing this and then turn around and say we shouldn't discuss this?
1 Corinthians 16:2 or Colossians 2:16,17 say to not discuss this??? Odd!

Man, that's good to know. I was really worried if you would or not.

I taught 7 covenants.

God's Word teaches 2 covenants.

All the covenants in the old testament are all under the Old Covenant.

Hebrews 10:9
Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
(God said He would make a New Covenant - see Jeremiah 31:31-34)

You're not doing well with the Greek language either.

Said the resident Greek Scholar

We're you careful to ask Dr AI just the right question?

Is "Dr AI" ordained by the Lord for ministry and has "Dr AI" been filled with the Holy Spirit?

If not then we'd be best to not be asking "Dr AI" about God's Word.

I just read this post - a good Scripture to say what you just said
Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of my favorite passages.
I used to let the kids write it on the first page of their notebooks.

Proverbs 3:5-6
5Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

Must be in the KJV!

Sorry but I think that many do not understand that a very great number of folks come to faith as midgets in their understanding concerning the things of God.
This is where the majority of our growth takes place. Why? Because we have now been given the desire to trust, obey, believe. And, we have been given a new heart to do just that!
But this does not happen over night. It is a growth process that takes place over time. [sanctification]
So, if we fail to obey does God give us a swift kick in the rear and tell us to get lost. I don't think so! We are forgiven in Christ and sealed with the Spirit. That's what a being brought to Christ means!
Grace brings us to this point and grace will keep us safe. I know there are many who believe that we may lose our salvation, but I am not one of them.
2Peter 3:18 tells us: - But grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

God's Word teaches 2 covenants.
Oh.
I musta made up all the others.

All the covenants in the old testament are all under the Old Covenant.
There is no Covenant called THE OLD COVENANT.

What is meant by the OC is the Mosaic Covenant.

But, whateva.

Hebrews 10:9
Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
(God said He would make a New Covenant - see Jeremiah 31:31-34)
Yes sir.
Will be looking up jeremiah.

Said the resident Greek Scholar
Are you referring to me??
There IS a Greek scholar here
but it sure ain't me.

See. I even have trouble with English.

I think that was my point.

I'll tell you this however....
IF you already know the answer
it is a great tool.
It's quick and explains really well.

But, like I said,,,,one would already have to know the reply since it replies based on how it's asked.
First we had Prof. Google
Now we have Dr. AI

Pretty soon our brain will become useless.

They missed it's fulfillment in Jesus and the ultimate command to love God and neighbor...
I'd say that the Mosaic Covenant and the New Covenant are different in their method.
What the MC was missing was the Holy Spirit.
God gave commands, and the Holy Spirit was present throughout the history of God's revelation...
however, in the NC what changes is that through the death of Jesus the veil that separated man from God has been torn from top to bottom and now everyone has access to the Holy of Holies or Most Holy Place.
WE are the priests.
WE offer the sacrifice of ourselves to God...
our body is the temple and we can worship from anywhere...
the Temple has been destroyed but there is a new temple.
And now...the Holy Spirit is not only present...
but He dwells within us - providing the grace and strength necessary to walk in God's laws....

If only some of the kids here would do the same...

Actually, I've already asked us all to ponder Luke17 today.

I like how Jesus basically tells us we must have the only kind of faith God works with - one that obeys.

Did you find that some or many kids didn't listen? I did with older ones - up to about 60+ years old.
