there you go... this is incorrect period. smoking a cigarette is about as medically harmful as eating a big steak and patatoe. smoking is not condemned in the bible either. It when we smoke too much or use it in unsafe quantities that it may infringe upon "sin" Which you appear to understand. I have known a number of people who have a beer or a joint and watch a football game... and do not continuously smoke and drink. They aren't in sin.

Smoking harms the body, we know that, so does too much alcohol. Body is a temple.

Well you have a clever critique the fact that remains God created the plant and it was good and since we don't have a clear line in the Bible that stipulates exactly what crosses the sobriety line is and understanding that a glass of wine that Jesus had drank was obviously not a sin then there is a level of taking a drink of wine or smoking a joint that would not be considered not a sin.
The plants God made are good.
Some are good for some uses and others for other uses. Some should be avoided as harsh reminded of the curse of sin.
Every possible use of a plant animal, fish or amphibian is Not a good use.
Do you think God created Bufo marinus giant toads so you can lick their poison glands and get just a little buzz?

You're right that what Jesus created at the wedding was not a sin. That's because the containers weren't filled with alcohol.

Yes those containers were alcholic that's why it was called good wine.

A lot of people play games with "oh the wine that they're talking about was just grape juice" the actual definition of wine is fermented grape juice which produces alcohol. Or they would have said something like he made grape juice. Fermented grape juice was part of the wedding... so not only did he produce alcoholic wine he drank it at the Last Supper.

you have to ignore the exact wording in any language that you look at to assume that there is no alcohol involved

Yes and Genesis 1:19 explains that we can eat marijuana which will actually affect you it would be crazy to think that you couldn't smoke it but you can eat it and by the way if you cook it it actually becomes more potent

The only semi extreme answer I can give to this response is God allowed mankind to make a drug such as Fentanyl we know it's not evil it's not a sin and it benefits many people legitimately through the hand of the doctors who God trained hopefully and guess what not that they prescribe it like this but you can smoke Fentanyl or injected if you want

God allowed mankind to sin.
That does Not make Him the Author of sin and the evils that people do.

There are members here that will bristle at my comment, but ask me if I should care.
The state I am in has a major drug problem and always has.
Their #1 cash crop was always marijuana and there are so many medication addicts that I don't use the city library in spite of the fact that over ten thousand tax dollars have been stolen from me by the Robin Hood state to give to the poor library. After paying my rent to the state, I had to go to the restroom. The only public restroom in that city was the public library. Needle hazmat boxes were on the walls. Addicts entered to have privacy while I washed my hands. That's one of the nicer cities. I was only robbed by the police twice there.

The biggest drug pushers are the diabolical self proclaimed "health care professionals."
They are professional alright;
the oldest profession know to mankind. In college I realized their earned reputation for promiscuity. I avoided them like an STD.
Since college, I have seen that the good ones refuse to hold the bad accountable and the rest get away with making more addicts of house wives than any creeper van pimps and pushers ever have.
It when it is abused that sin occurs, even so fentanyl isn't the sin, the abuse of it is.

Smoking weed isn't a sin then abuse of it is. Remembering that smokable weed is now prescribed by doctors where's the sin?
Drs are not my standard of morality. The majority got into that gig because their parents told them that's where the big money is. Help me finish this verse, For the love of money is the root of____ ____.

Here's a fun little game for you.Do a simple word study on the term "wine" and see what you find.

Well that's all good information and I was not suggesting that doctors legislating morality but since it has to be legal for me to be even be asking the question is it okay in the Bible that's what I did and so far none of this antidotal issues that we have in America is relevant to the question. I was not suggesting that God is causing anybody to sin

And my question was pretty isolated it doesn't involve somebody that's just a pothead what it involves is somebody does their job comes home at night kicks on the news it smokes a joint it is my contention that there is no sin in this

The reasons that I believe this is because God created all things good and explicitly gave us permission to use herbs with seeds and fruit with seeds as food. So at the very minimal God has allowed us to eat marijuana

If you cook or bake marijuana you increase its potency but in either situation it will still get you high

Because Jesus who drank wine at his last supper is not guilty of sin then it would stand a reason that a single glass of wine is not committing sin rather as has been pointed out sobriety enters the picture at what point are we actually no longer sober one drink two drinks

Likewise merging the two concepts if I eat or smoke marijuana they're probably is a certain amount where one would become not sober so I am not referring to somebody who Just Smokes until they pass out. Since sobriety centers around being able to function and a single joint doesn't cause you to be unable to function (give ot take)

Is smoking that joint a sin? My answer is no the Bible doesn't forbid it nor is it impairing the ability to function any more than a glass of wine.

Don't kid yourself I've already done it I'm not asking questions I don't have answers for

Almost everying we consume unless your a vegan can harm the body. Breathing oxygen in a city is bad for you, Eggs have chloresteral, bacon has fat etc.... so that line if argument isn't valid.

Intent, smoking is poison. I don't know if I'd consider it sin, but it's something we knowingly do that hurts our body. It's made for no other reason but to harm the body.

So God gave us a useless item or at best a poison I'm just not going to track with that any harm done by smoking one cigarette in the morning maybe one in the afternoon and one at night will be repaired by the next morning

I would think that everybody would believe that smoking is bad however if you have ever been under extreme duress say in combat or other similar dramatic scenarios the cigarette goes a long ways to calm the nerves, and in this I don't believe it's any sin

So you can picture Jesus passing a bud to His disciples since it's just a glass of alcohol?

Leaven is a type of sin.
God sternly warns His people to clean the house of ALL leaven for the Passover. He did not make exception for beverages.
This is what was commanded just prior to the LORD smiting all of the first born throughout Egypt.

Exodus 12:15, 18, 19, 20,
15
Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
18
In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.
19Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. 20Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

If you were in their shoes, would you say, naaaaw God just doesn't want the bread to rise?
Let's open that leavened bottle of fermented wine that I've been saving for a special occasion!

God didn't say don't consume marijuana

And no I personally wouldn't have a problem if Jesus was smoking pot it wouldn't change my belief in him one bit in fact it would make him seem much more in touch with being human

Christians aren't called to simply avoid sin but to strive for holiness in Christ. We don't ask, can I get away with this; but, is this God's highest calling for me.

You've picked a contemporary definition that agrees with your preconceived point of view.
You will get a different definition if you ever find time to read the King James Bible from cover to cover with a humble mind open to learn. That's what it took for me.

I find nothing to indicate neither in research nor in the Bible that suggest that the marijuana plant was made for no other reason but to harm the body in fact in reality it was used quite a bit for making ropes hemp ropes and obviously later we've done all sorts of stuff with it made shirts and other things

Well let me just inform you that since it was 17 ( im now 58)I have read the King James Bible at least 25 to 30 times and I've deep dived on just about every book in the 66 books including the extra canonical books as well as the psuedepigrapha, and the nag hamadi Gnostic Gospels as well as a small stint in studying Hebrew and Greek however this doesn't mean that I know anything nor does it mean that you know anything an argument from Authority doesn't make it true therefore find some other reason

The simple fact is this with the assumption that we are not talking about abusing marijuana only smoking a joint that the Bible in no direct or indirect way condemns such an act

I wasn't asking to get away with anything I was putting forth an assertion that marijuana use is not a sin if it's legal in your state because the Bible in no way suggest the opposite

A lot of things are legal. Christians don't look only to man's laws to decide what is God's will. Where are we instructed in the Bible to make a practice of getting intoxicated? Then look up all the references where we're instructed to maintain sobriety.

Hemp and marijuana are both Cannabis sativa plants, but they are distinguished legally and chemically
by their tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content. Hemp contains 0.3% or less THC, making it non-intoxicating
and federally legal in the US, while marijuana contains higher levels of THC, causing a "high" and remains
federally illegal; the term "marijuana" specifically refers to cannabis cultivated for its intoxicating properties.
