I get that non-denominational churches want a good band/ praise team, but man, if they would just turn it down just a little. This is like a stronghold in churches that they just refuse to do. They simply won’t budge on it. I don’t get it.

They think they are catering to the youth but it is the older ones that carry the financial side of the local Church. Yes! Turn the music down!
an electronic drum set is the key to low volume. churches are never built for proper sound control. some modern churches may think of proper planning for the volume as in sound proof walls & floors. a carpet is needed for the band. but the drums will always topple over any other instrument. by course, a very talented soundman is needed, i mean a real pro as in experience with rock bands.
Yep, the drums and bass dominate the sound. The problem is the singers try to sing louder to hear themselves and wear themselves out. Most kids can’t go in the service since it’s too loud (Lakepointe Church, Rockwall, TX).

One of the reasons I chose our current church was because the volume of the praise music was reasonable. We got a new pastor and soon after the volume increased and I noticed some people starting to use earplugs. I think they've since raised the volume a little more, enough so that sometimes I wish I had earplugs with me... I don't think high volume lends itself to actual worship...
I think maybe they're trying to keep the younger crowd interested?
I used to like it loud and fast. I didn't think God would move in services if the music was low and boring...
But now I'm older and a bit seasoned. I think if one song goes well, then do another. But please stop after that. I want to hear the message.. That's just me.

There are places that you can sit where you won't get blasted by the music as much. Be mindful of where the speakers are and don't sit in front of it, near or far, it will be louder in that spot. I traveled and sang and it's very hard to get the music right for everyone, especially for older people. But if you cannot hear the words there is no point to it IMO.
Which almost never happens in churches. You don't know how many sound men I've met that say they are engineers and don't have a clue about sound.
that's where the real sound pro people are needed, as in a monitor soundman & a p.a. soundman. but everyone still has to work to gather for stage volume. there should never be an issue where someone is singing or playing louder because he or she can't hear self.

we have passed on church attendance in the past 5 years because of a boring pastor & a boring band playing the same rhythm pattern in every song, year after year! but we have attended church there in the past 2 weeks. we do miss church. they are searching for a new pastor. the assistant pastor is preaching now. also in the past 2 years, major renovations have been completed & miraculously the band has improved generously. they found a soundman that knows what he's doing because there are big improvements with that also!!!!! i feel like saying that i can't believe it.
I understand what you are saying but don't quite know where to put it. The image of ear plugs in church may speak to more than just music volume....... I can remember a couple of churches where I should have done just that!
Amen times 1000. Our church provides ear plugs if you want them. That should not be necessary.
you are correct again! similar to musicians. more often than not, they'll say, ' i can play this, that, & everything else". you hear them & then they say, "what key is that in, i thought it was A flat"? "what's that rhythm pattern, i thought....."!
