FirstlyTell the Lord you have a problem and ask Him for rid you of it.
thank you, i often find myself prideful and try to beat it myself instead of letting him, idk why but even after i pray it just takes a few hours and its back for no reasonThank you for shraring! I struggle with lust too, sometimes those thoughts just get stuck in my head. It helps to remind ourselves that God can carry that for us, we can go to him in prayer and name our thoughts/urges/whatever temptations we are feeling to him and ask him to replace them. For me personally, I have to speak a loud a strong "No, we aren't going to do that" to myself because sometimes if I don't speak a loud then nothing will happen or worse, I'll act on whatever temptation that is there. I really find that taking a minute or too to just speak a loud to God helps. Yo don't have to bow your head and close your eyes (unless you feel like it) you can just sit there and call on his name and he will listen. (I often don't close my eyes when I pray, I'll just start talking to him). It's all about taking those thoughts captive and bringing them to the Lord.
viva la France. thanks brotherHi friend, first of all, struggling with lust in completely normal, and this fight happens inside too.
It is "easier" to run from lust when it happens outside of us, like not focusing our eyes or our attention on suggestive content, etc..
But when you have lustful thoughts in your mind, the fight seems already lost, since nothing outside of us is happening, yet we are under attack...
We have to ask ourselves:
Why are we under attack inside? First of all, your thoughts and feelings are the result of what you feed your soul. If you feed your body, thoughts about your body will grow, but if you feed your soul, thoughts about your soul will grow.
Matthew 6:22-33 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"
In you "run" enough from lust, it will already reduce the amount of lustful thoughts in your head. But that isn't enough, you have to replace your thoughts with godly thoughts, by reading scriptures, talking to christians, working for God.
Corinthians 10: 4-5: "For the weapons of our warfare [are] not fleshly, but powerful to God for bringing down of strongholds,
reasonings bringing down, and every high thing lifted up against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of the Christ"
Paul asked us to bring to captivity every thought to the obediance of the Christ, that is why you have to turn your attention and seek the Lord at all times, to prevent nasty thoughts.
How do we fight?
My father used to tell me "We cannot chase away birds flying above our heads, but we can stop them from making a nest."
When evil thoughts pop in your mind, you're not sinning, since we only have so much control over our random thoughts.
Nevertheless, you can prevent theses thoughts to linger in your mind, as our sister said above, by praying, chasing them out out loud, listening to worship, worshiping...
When you're alone is when you're the most vulnerable, that's why you have to have close christian friends to help you out during difficult times.
You have to believe that Jesus saving you from sin doesn't mean that you are now immune to temptation, but now able to resist it!
Lustful thoughts are here to discourage you, to trap you in a lie thats says "you can't escape this, you haven't changed".
It is nothing but a lie.
Jesus will eventually free you from theses thoughts, all you have to do is do your part: Pray, believe that Jesus will give you victory, avoid sinning, repent when you do, and keep fighting, not with your own strenghts, but with God's strenghts renewing your mind and body.
Keep going my brother
(please don't mind my english, i'm french)
well I follow the law and Christ because he is true a creation should not disobey their creator, so getting my will up to speed is difficult but i need to replace my will with hisHow do my fellow Believers "run" from Lust if it stays in your head?
The part about being stuck in your head is the tricky part. If it's stuck in your head, there's nowhere to run. What I had to grapple with was how to get it out of my head and keep it out.
First, the reason it stays stuck in your head is because you've reinforced it, probably over years, to stay stuck in there by fantasizing and remembering things that get you aroused.
To "unstick" those lustful thoughts you're probably going to have to do something that's not very comfortable, maybe even traumatizing, to get your mind off of sex and onto a new track. What that is only you can decide. But most of all, you have to really want it; I mean truly and honestly want it. As I've heard many times in recovery: Half measures availed us nothing; and: We had to become willing to do whatever it takes.
You have to decide if you want lust to control your mind the rest of your life or if you're going to do something about it. I can tell you from personal experience, it's not an insurmountable problem, even though it may seem that way.
facts though, When i left the faith a few months ago before i came back Lust was not a problem it wasn't even a skirmish i just didnt do that, granted i was also depressed and suicidal at that point so i lost interest in most things, but only after going back to Christ did it return, tbh i think it is the only real sin that i voluntarily choose VIA temptation the other sins i easily reject unless acting on impulseFirstly
Try not to believe the Lie of the devil
That there's something wrong with you
After being saved
We embark on the battle between the flesh and the spirit
The very fact you see lust as a problem
Is, infact, a spiritual victory
I know this
Because I struggle with the same human flaw
The main thing is
You recognise it for what it is
Maybe this is the thorn in your flesh
To keep you humble
Maybe The Lord will
Rid you of it
Maybe He won't
But rejoice in the victory
It's something of the flesh that you recognise and reject
Even though it returns
This is by no means a failure
The spirit and flesh are diametrically oppsed and can never find agreement
Your experiencing this battle
Says something beautiful
You truly are a born again Christian
If you weren't
You wouldn't see it as a problem
May The Lord grant you the same freedom He's given me
Even though at times I fail
I fully understand your thinkingfacts though, When i left the faith a few months ago before i came back Lust was not a problem it wasn't even a skirmish i just didnt do that, granted i was also depressed and suicidal at that point so i lost interest in most things, but only after going back to Christ did it return, tbh i think it is the only real sin that i voluntarily choose VIA temptation the other sins i easily reject unless acting on impulse
yk, as someone who grew up in church with a (historical interest only) when it came to learning about the bible i know alot but fail to apply it im smart but not wise, im better at advising others, when i was saved after a few months period of worshiping a devil in late 7th grade early 8th grade i was a isolated Christian i spent most of my life by myself learning history and war history, as a self reliant Christian im happy to actually have any community at all its weird having support i used to fight alone. i guess the devil likes when im alone since he knows im prideful and try to fight by myselfLet me be more open and specific in order to be of real benefit
I know exactly what it's like to resort to viewing pornograhy
It, at times, is like an irresistible pull
The devil is furious that I defected from his kingdom of darkness
To the kingdom of Light
And he uses every weakness I have to draw me back and claim ownership
But , by the Spirit, I always end up in repentance
I've been free of this particular battle now for around 6 months
But I don't expect for one second
This battle is over
The enemy is patient
And here's an unusual reminder of it
From a surprising source
Bucks fizz and the land of makebelieve
"Something nasty in your garden is waiting patiently until it can have your heart"
But here's OUR Christian reality
And my favourite bible verse
Do not be afraid little flock for it's The Fathers good pleasure to give you the kingdom
Rejoice in your afflictions
The very fact you don't want it
Proves
You are redeemed
Allelujah Jesus
Your not aloneyk, as someone who grew up in church with a (historical interest only) when it came to learning about the bible i know alot but fail to apply it im smart but not wise, im better at advising others, when i was saved after a few months period of worshiping a devil in late 7th grade early 8th grade i was a isolated Christian i spent most of my life by myself learning history and war history, as a self reliant Christian im happy to actually have any community at all its weird having support i used to fight alone. i guess the devil likes when im alone since he knows im prideful and try to fight by myself
thank you sir.Your not alone
Take heart in my favourite scripture
Which I've never heard a single sermon on
Don't be afraid little flock for it's The Fathers good pleasure to give you the kingdom
You already have everything
The very fact that lust *bothers" you
Proves this reality
I'm definitely not "sir"thank you sir.
