A glass of beer can provide “substantial levels” of an essential brain-boosting vitamin in your diet, according to research published in a respected German journal.

The BBC reports the vitamin B6 is good for the brain, blood and immune system and is found in a wide variety of foods – including an ice cold brew.

A beer “serving” might meet around 15 percent of your daily B6 requirement, the authors of the study as seen by the BBC say, and even alcohol-free lager could deliver the same result.

Many of the raw ingredients used to make the beverage, including barley, wheat and brewer’s yeast, contain vitamin B6 and the brewing process doesn’t kill it all off, research suggests.

Sounds like 7 servings of beer a day would take care of our B6 requirement.

In fairness the article does state that you can get vitamin B6 from meat, fish, porridge, potatoes...

You can also get important things like nitrates and nitrates from hot dogs. Or you could eat some leafy greens.

And you can get some good antioxidants from drinking wine... Ooooooooor eat some good fresh fruit.

What about Vegemite, or Marmite, that has lots of B vitamins.
Is made from Yeast Extract, a by product of breweries, so contains a more than substantial amount of B vitamins, cos it ain't watered down.

Germans would use any excuse to drink beer, honestly.

It would be like saying Ribena had lots of vitamin C. Yea according to who, the Ribena people?? Science says no, easily replicable science conducted by a high school student!
One thing Ribena has that gives you bounce and a lot of energy? Copious amounts of sugar. They had to make a 'toothkind' version to compensate.

the 'respected' German Journal isn't named of course.
I would have looked it up otherwise, and seen who the peer reviewers were.

I don't know if beer is good for you or not. My father-in-law worked 10 hours a day 5-6 days a week until he was 82 years old. He died at 84 of asbestos related cancer. I knew him for 50 years. He drank at least a 12 pack of beer every day that I knew him. In the whole time I knew him, I never saw him drunk.

I was amazed at his ability to do detailed work. He and his two BILs (both drank beer like him) built their 3 bedroom homes. I know that much of the concrete block walls are filled with beer cans.

I don't drink any type of alcoholic beverages. Made for some interesting conversations while I helped them.
