Water = Water of the Word!

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He
might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such
thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

Ephesians 5:25-27
refers to water baptism in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the spirit

Amen?

not interested in natural birth only the new birth that the s administered by the faith community
But you keep making both into something as if they are the same thing.

We are to be born TWICE. (born again)

First = water. Mother broke water to give birth to you.

Second = Spirit! The Holy Spirit begets your human spirit.

To not be interested in natural childbirth?
That is a snooty attitude to have towards what we need to know to avoid error and apostasy.

You save a lot of energy being the way you are?
Thinking requires energy...

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but whoever hates correction is stupid.

Can't you see?

Water baptism + Spirit baptism = two baptisms. Not one!

1 Corinthians 12:13

For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—
whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given
the one Spirit to drink."

:coffee: Believers are to drink water baptism?

Do you not know what it means to be born again? God includes us in Christ. In Him, we die to the old nature we inherited from Adam. The good new is that Christ did not stay dead. As Lord Jesus rose from the dead, so do we.

There is no need for any religious gymnastics in order to be born again. Religious endeavours do not change the natures of people. You cannot crucify yourself and you surely cannot raise yourself from death. Salvation is entirely and solely because of Calvary. Even being KJV only won't save you.

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20"
"Brothers, consider the time of your calling: Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were powerful; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly and despised things of the world, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast in His presence."

"It is because of Him - GOD- that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Every exhortation to live the godly life is to those who are already born again. Good works do not save you. They do determine your placement in God's kingdom. Good works should be the result of the new birth. Good works will not save you. And if God has put you into Christ, who can take you out? And if your new, born again spirit that is of God is eternal, then how can it die?

Seems to me this question has been around for 600 yrs. I am interested in how we the answer now.
John 3:16, Acts 16:31

Problem solved........Unless we want to be "the best WORLD theologian around.." And MUCK it up for all the unbelievers.

False. 1 Peter 1:23 - having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.

Mark 16:16 - He who believes and is baptized will be saved (general cases without making a qualification for the unusual case of someone who believes but is not baptized) but he who does not believe will be condemned. The omission of baptized with "does not believe" shows that Jesus does not make baptism absolutely necessary for salvation. Condemnation rests on unbelief and not on a lack of baptism. *NOWHERE does the Bible say, "baptized or condemned."

If water baptism was absolutely required for salvation, then we would expect Jesus to mention it in the following verses. (3:15,16,18; 5:24; 6:29,40,47; 11:25,26) Yet what is the ONE requirement that Jesus mentions NINE different times in each of these complete statements *BELIEVES. *What happened to baptism *Hermeneutics. If he who believes shall be saved, then he who believes and is baptized shall be saved as well.

John 3:18 - He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who (is not water baptized? - NO) does not believe is condemned already, because he has not (been water baptized? - NO) because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

In regard to the word "water" in John 3:5, there are those who would argue that the natural sense of the passage parallels water with being born out of a mother’s womb and with flesh based on the answer of Nicodemus to Jesus. Simply stated in that case, two births are necessary. The first is a physical, literal, "flesh" birth accompanied by amniotic "water" and the second is Spirit.

We also see in scripture that Jesus mentions "living water" in John 4:10, 14; 7:37-39 and in John 7:38-39, we read - "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the source of living water and spiritual cleansing.

Now if "water" is defined as baptism, then we could just as justifiably say, "Out of his heart will flow rivers of living baptism" in John 7:38. If this sounds ridiculous, it is no more so than the idea that water baptism is the source or the means of becoming born again. So, to automatically read "baptism" into John 3:5 simply because it mentions "water" is unwarranted.

Furthermore, we also see in scripture that "water" is used in the Bible as an emblem of the word of God, and in such uses it is associated with cleansing or washing. (John 15:3; Ephesians 5:26) When we are born again, the Holy Spirit begets new life, and we are said to become "partakers of the divine nature." (2 Peter 1:4) The new birth is brought to pass through "incorruptible seed, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever" (I Peter 1:23) and the Holy Spirit accomplishes the washing of regeneration. (Titus 3:5)

In regard to Titus 3:5, the washing of regeneration is not accomplished by water baptism. The word "washing" in the Strong's Greek Concordance with Vine's Number 3067 - (Loutron) "a bath, a laver" is used *metaphorically of the Word of God, as the instrument of spiritual cleansing* (Ephesians 5:26; and Titus 3:5), of the "washing of regeneration." So, washing refers to spiritual washing or purification of the soul, accomplished by the word of God through the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation.
He that believes that Jesus is Lord will obey Him by getting baptised. Why would someone not obey Jesus command to the apostles that they should baptise those who believe? Either, because they have never read the command; or they are incapacitated and cannot get baptised; or because they do not regard Jesus as their Lord, but only want to escape the fire. Does someone who refuses to obey Jesus in this very easy act of obedience have good reason to profess that they believe He is Lord?

Truly believing Jesus is demonstrated by obeying His command to get baptised, just as not eating from the forbidden tree was demonstrating trust in God as Lord.

You've answered your own question. If anyone can be born again without being baptised, then it is not essential to being born again. Believers should be baptised. That comes after being born again. If obedience was the absolute requirement for salvation, no one would be saved because no one obeys God perfectly. That includes you.

I suggest that you read John 1:12 again. Tell me where it says baptism is for salvation. Likewise John 3:16-18 "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

Where is baptism referred to here?

Anyone professing to believe in Jesus for salvation and yet refusing to be water baptized is of questionable sincerity. It's unthinkable that anyone who truly believes the gospel would refuse to be water baptized. I could not wait to get water baptized after my conversion and I cannot think of one Christian that I know who has refused to be water baptized after their conversion. It logically follows that we get water baptized after we believe and are saved, but if someone is on their death bed and cannot get baptized before death, they are still saved because they BELIEVED (John 3:18; Acts 10:43; Romans 1:16) which is in harmony with Mark 16:16(b)..but he who does not believe will be condemned. *NOWHERE does the Bible say, "water baptized or condemned."

I agree Jesus said go and sin no more!
I've heard certain folks abuse and misuse the words of Jesus "go and sin no more" in John 8:11 to teach "sinless perfection." Jesus was telling the woman to go and leave her life of sin, namely, she had been practicing adultery. Also, Jesus cannot compromise his perfect holy standard, so of course He is not going to say, "go and just sin a little bit."
