Psalm113-2-3s.png

Psalm 113 v 2-3 Blessed be the name of the LORD both now and forevermore. From where the sun rises to where it sets, the name of the LORD is praised.

He absolutely was influenced by his Manchaeism roots and to deny this, is to deny the abundance of research on the subject, do you have that authority?
Doubtful.
If you read my whole message not just that part, you would see my grand point was that the claim that Augustine was some philosopher and somehow Justin Martyr and Origen WEREN'T is absolutely unsupported. Free will and platonism is also philosophy you know that right? I think you need to study Augustine's writings a bit more to make that statement, he argued against gnosticism after coming to faith. Was he influenced by philosophy? Sure, so was Justin Martyr. But to claim we believe what the Bible teaches because of Augustine is just false. When I teach on this subject I never quote Augustine, I always quote the Bible. The only time I would ever quote the Church fathers is if I was teaching Church history, which the Lord has not called me to as of yet, I am not equipped for that

Nowhere does scripture state God must do an individual, unique, particular work in the heart first before a person can believe.
Have you not read the countless messages on this subject @Magenta has posted both in text and image form?

For some reason God had to do a work in Lydia's heart even though she was already a 'worshiper of God'

Acts 16:14
Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.

The Bible teaches all good gifts come from the heavenly Father, and that no man can take unless it is granted by God.

"A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven."

They love their lies, though! They have nothing else to prop up their eisegesis. They even
claim divine intervention is not required in the process of coming to believe, which is as
far from Scripture truth as one can possibly get, and when they run around repeatedly
telling us how unfair it would be of God if He were to reveal Himself in any way different
from one person to the next, it looks like they have not read the Bible at all, and yet
they put themselves forward as some kind of researcher extraordinaire and want

others to listen to them as if they were a teacher that should be heeded.

There is a direct line from Augustine to John Calvin to the Canons of Dort forward.

To assert your doctrine was formulated solely by the study of scripture in a vacuum is not a serious position at all.

Before St. Augustine of Hippo, no one taught the specific, fully formed doctrines of "original sin" (as inherited guilt) and "unconditional election" in the way they were later understood in Western theology. Augustine developed these doctrines around 412 AD

The story of Lydia has been dealt with a multitude of times on CC without the Calvinist lens overlay it does not support unconditional election
Doctrine is never formulated on a "one go to" verse every Calvinist seems to keep in their back pocket ready for action when required.
Cherry picked verses is not a serious methodology.

If that was the case everyone would be saved? Part of getting the new heart is walking in obedience:

Ezekiel 36:25-27
Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

Everyone would be saved if God did not allow souls to resist His will, beginning with A&E.
God preferred to fellowship with folks made in His image rather than to create a race of robots.

Rather than OT obedience, God loves a cheerful giver/willing/loving cooperation.

Scripture literally never shows us that regeneration precedes faith or that we cannot believe until we've been regenerated.

False, that saying God gives every dead sinner a new heart in regeneration. Thats saying God makes every dead sinner spiritually alive !

No, it means God is just/does not show favoritism (Rom. 2:11), but instead loves every soul and graces them with opportunity to be saved (John 3:16, 1Tim. 2:3-4). To deny this truth is heresy/perversion of the Gospel!

Scripture never treats faith as something special or supernatural that men cannot have unless caused by God.

We have faith in a lot of things. It's not the faith itself that makes the difference but what or who that faith is exercised in.

The things of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 2:14 are contextually the deep things of God that the Corinthian BELIEVERS STILL COULDN’T receive.

They already had faith so therefore faith cannot be included in these things of the Spirit.

This thread is getting very interesting, as many are into civil debate. Praise to God.

Yes God is sovereign, David committed horrible sin, the jew leaders and crowd committed horrible sin....

Does this mean we should commit sin on purpose?

Absolutely not. David should have not sleep with bethsheba, the jew leaders and crowd should not plot to kill Jesus.

Mystery mystery mystery.

Our jib is to obey God's commandments, simple, but we need to be brave and courageous to obey Him.

You do not, no person reading the Bible comes across thousands of "come to me" statements and then says "You know what man this acutally means nobody can do it unless God regenerates me first cause it says the natural man cannot receive things of the Spirit in a completely different context written centuries after these coming statements."

Nobody is boasting, bla bla bla. I did adress it ddead in sins doesnt mean unable to believe as the prodigal son was not unable to return he was DEAD, then came to himself and there ya go.

Don’t tell me what I did and didn’t do. I’m telling you that’s exactly what happened.

That you can’t understand what the “come to me” passages mean is on you.

As for us being dead, God told Adam he would die on the day he ate the fruit. Did God lie, or did Adam spiritually die that day?

Why do you think Jesus had to come in the first place?!

This idea that, yeah, we’re dead, but still kinda of alive, is absurd and completely unbiblical.

Stop stealing God’s Glory!

There are a few podcasters who sometimes really hit the nail on the head from my perspective, Mike Winger is one of them. I pretty much agree with his take on Romans 9 regarding Calvinism and don't think it supports Calvinism at all.

Non-Calvinist Interpretation of Romans 9b

He's one of the podcasters i often find has something interesting to say, well worth taking a look through his videos.

This is a false gospel

The poster's statement portrays God as a passive bystander who sets up an opportunity, and man as the active agent who makes the winning decision. In the economy of grace, God is the sole Actor in salvation (Monergism). He does not offer opportunities; He resurrects the dead.

Mike Winger always goes the extra mile and presents a very solid scriptural response and his presentations are well thought out.

The very fact there is a "calvinist" interpretation says a lot.

It is indeed!!
Love how they twist what is good to seem bad, the ability to respond positively to the Good News of Christ Jesus is somehow robbing God of His Glory.

He only resurrects some of the dead, he is a very selective, preferential god <<<< forgot that part.

Thats correct, but you show scorn for not Capitalizing God. God does show Preferential to some over the rest. Thats the nature of Grace, He only reserves it for a remnant Rom 11:5-7

5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded.
In 2 Thess 2:13 the word chosen is the greek word haireō:

  1. to take for oneself, to prefer, choose

But the preference was of Grace, not because of anything in and about the ones so preferred.

Mike covers what you said in your comment well in the video i posted a link to, we aren't puppets and have been blessed with some agency. There are so many scriptures throughout both testaments stating we do have some choice, also that His hardening hearts follows persistent wickedness. 2 Peter 3:9 sums it up really well: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2 Peter 3:9&version=RSV

Believing the Gospel does not rob God of His glory.. He himself set the condition!!!
They twist everything pertaining to the plan of salvation.
If believing what you declare doesn't provide anyone any sort of glory, then why do these threads continue in attempting to convince readers that Calvin wasn't a theological quack?

The Gospel is that God offers everyone the opportunity to be resurrected per the Scriptures I have cited,
which truth your heretical denomination denies, but it serves the useful purpose of teaching Christians how to refute tulipism.
We pray y'all will repent and become part of the body of Christ soon, so we can move on to disagreeing about some didachaic issues.

Again, the kerygmatic need for tulipists is to harmonize God's sovereignty with His omnilove and justness,
which is explained on the Resolving Problematic Issues thread as well as in dialectical posts on this one.

Perhaps it would be helpful for a tulipist to post their creed that can be compared with this one:

1. There is a/one all-loving and just Lord or God (Deut. 6:4, John 3:16, 2Thes. 1:6), who is both able (2Tim. 1:12) and willing (1Tim. 2:3-4, Ezek. 33:11) to provide all morally accountable human beings salvation or heaven—a wonderful life full of love, joy and peace forever.
2. Human beings are selfish or sinful (Rom. 3:23, 2Tim. 3:2-4, Col. 3:5), miserable (Gal. 5:19-21), and hopeless (Eph. 2:12) or hell-bound at the judgment (Matt. 23:33 & 25:46) when they reject God’s salvation (John 3:18, Rom. 2:5-11).
3. Jesus is God’s Messiah/Christ and incarnate Son, the way that God has chosen (John 3:16, Acts 16:30-31, Phil. 2:9-11) of providing salvation by means of his atoning death on the cross for the payment of the penalty for the sins of humanity (Rom. 3:22-25 & 5:9-11), followed by his resurrection to reign in heaven (1Cor. 15:14-28).
4. Thus, every person who hears the NT Gospel needs to repent and accept God’s justification in Jesus as Christ/Messiah the Lord or Supreme Commander (Luke 2:11, John 14:6, Acts 16:31), which means trying to obey (Phil. 3:12, 1John 1:8) His commandment to love one another (Matt. 22:37-40, John 13:35, Rom. 13:9)—forever (Matt. 10:22, Psa. 113:2).
5. Then God’s Holy Spirit will establish a saving relationship with those who freely accept Him (Rev. 3:20) that will eventually achieve heaven when by means of persevering in learning Truth/God’s Word/sanctification everyone cooperates fully with His will (John 14:6, 17&26, Rom. 8:6-17, Gal. 6:7-9, Eph. 1:13-14, Heb. 10:36, 12:1, Jam. 1:2-4).
6. This creed summarizes revelation of the NT Gospel/Truth (Matt. 26:13, John 14:6), which fulfilled the OT revelation (Matt. 5:17, John 19:30, Heb. 7:11-10:10) and culminates the search for salvation by souls who know only general revelation (Rom. 1:20, 2:14-16, Matt. 7:12). Seeking begins when souls love truth/repent of false beliefs (2Thes. 2:10&13, Matt. 4:17, 7:7), which is the Way to eternal life God wills, who is the Lord Jesus (Matt. 7:14, John 1:14, 4:24, 14:6). Lacking this love leads to believing lies and debauchery (Matt. 7:6, Rom. 1:18&25-26, 2Thes. 2:11-12).
