Not sure when back in the day refers to, but I received a rather warm welcome by several tulipists when I joined CC which I weathered,
thanks to God's gift of perseverance.

That applies to Calvinism also - as its roots are in Eastern Mysticism and Gnosticism :) Ancient Philosophies

The Philosophy behind Calvinism brought into the Catholic Church gave that Church the excuse to slaughter million. If they would not submit to the Pope they were unable to be saved anyway.

Then under Calvinism when the Calvinist puritans landed in America they wanted to wipe out the Indians because they were heathens unable to be saved, whereas the non-Calvinist Christians wanted to trade and witness to them.

Everywhere you look in history Calvinism is a violet religion that looks down on people as souls that can not be saved.

It is very difficult to obtain accurate information about Calvin, the internet is filled with people from the "Reformed" sect and they work

very hard to cast him in the best light possible and completely downplaying his influence in Geneva and his persecution of the people

who lived there who did not live by his rules.

The Puritans, yes that is another tragic time in the history of Christianity.

It really shows me how much propaganda the 🌷 people release in the media to control the narrative.

Well, it must be admitted that it is easier to understand how God might work mechanically (creating robots)
than via creatures having MFW, who could be apathetic regarding cooperation with GW.

One can learn about Calvin by reading his Institutes of the Christian Religion,
but one can learn about tulipism by studying the writings of Augustine of Hippo.

Augustine had a theory that preserved MFW, but not divine omnilove/justness.
Those omissions comprise the Achilles heel or scotoma of the tulip heresy.

Yes I read them back in the day, and some of Augustine as well.

I did not find Calvin to be helpful in any way in terms of understanding God.

I think you can tell when someone is writing from a deep connection to the living God, that was not Calvin, his writings were more like legal briefs.

Augustine from a philosophical point of view, is definitely worth reading, as well as Aquinas who challenged Augustine's view on the state of fallen man.

It seems to me that "Christian history" holds murderous (either by their own hands or influence) Christians in high regard, and those true to the faith in minor roles.

They formed the European Nation and Scandinavian Nations, and since Europeans settled in the USA, Australia etc, you can say eventually those nations also. There is proof in both the Bible and also in Secular History. They were the barbarian tribes that destroyed the Roman Empire at the time - in a few places we have "Thou art my battle axe" in the Old Testament and the barbarians weapon of choice was the battle-axe - just an interesting note. It is to big a subject to go into here as this is a thread about Calvinism.
