Websters dictionary....“a person or thing [in the Old Testament] believed to foreshadow another [in the New Testament].” For example, comparing Adam in the Old Testament to Christ, Romans 5:14 says Adam “is a type of Him who was to come.”

Manna, in the OT was a 'type' of God's word.

Exodus 16:4,35 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not....And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

Man in the OT needed to rely on God daily to sustain them with manna. Likewise, God's Word is manna which feeds the soul and sustains us today.

Luke 4:4 But Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.' "(Also Mat. 4:4)

John 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.


Can you think of any OT types of NT realities?

The Old Testament priesthood and sacrifices pointing to the great High Priest, Jesus Christ, who was Himself the Sacrifice to end all sacrifices.

I just wanted to clarify. Circumcision's to Spirit baptism, right? As GWH pointed out, it's a circumcision "done without hands", and "by the circumcision of Christ," in other words, it's spiritual. I think that circumcision and water baptism are both types both point to the same spiritual reality of being placed into Christ by faith.

I always said that the greatest painting ever made was made with words. In many ways, the Old Testament painted the New Testament.

Jesus is often called the second Adam. Where the first failed, the second succeeded. Adams life had a significant impact on humanity, likewise, so did Jesus'. Mostly fixing the consequences of Adams failure.

Also see 1 Corinthians 14:45-52, Romans 5: 12-21 Paul calls Adam a type of Him who was to come.

Sometimes types are not listed as types in the Bible, but are very clearly types that have been recognized by theologians for a long time.
 
Jonah a type of Jesus.

I always thought that Jonah being a type of Jesus extended beyond Jonah spending three days in the belly of the fish, and Jesus, three days in Hades. Both rose from within those places. I'm convinced that Jonah preaching to the people of Nineveh, a Gentile nation, and bringing so many to faith, was part of that type, or picture of Jesus in the NT. Jesus, after He rose and ascended, began to draw all people (John 12:32) through believers who began to go out into the whole world and preach the Gospel. Remember, salvation came (literally) came to the Gentiles at that time, just like the Jews.

I also find it interesting that recorded in Acts 2 "And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.". These are dispersed Jews who came to Pentecost to worship from the mostly Gentile nations listed in Acts 2. Many of those countries probably already had some Christian churches started, but these proselytes who came to faith in Jesus at Pentecost, believing the Gospel, would take the Gospel back to those countries with them. God had removed all the barriers.

Here's one that I used recently. Peter uses the Ark as a type of Jesus. Being placed into the Ark saved Noah and family from God's judgment, the flood. Being "placed into" Christ, our Ark, by way of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, also saves us from God's judgment.

1 Peter 3:20-21 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
 
The Lamb without blemish from the OT sacrifice is a type of Jesus. Who is called the same and also the Lamb of God. The Passover, that's a big one.

1 Peter 1:18-19 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Circumcision without hands means God does it, Baptism is the Finishing of The Circumcusion Cut a space place away so The Holy Spirit can Abode .OT didnt give the full details plainly To The Abode inside the Heart. Spiritual it's more like a normal natural permanent it's not something you turn on and off I suppose that God says he is Spirit then that's his plan for us to be spirit it's how you look on spirit Jesus is a quickened body form and that was shown to us to know we are to be as he is son of man glorified. The baptism is also death to life, Beyond man's imagination & the word is Parah Ruach . Jesus used that word once or twice in the gospel

Yes, or as Paul points out, spiritual circumcision to spiritual baptism (Rom. 2:29, 5:5, Deut. 30:6).

Im not get into it
but in OT & NT deep study Bread means Tomorrow blessing Today .

"Here is another significant type with Adam. Eve was deceived in the garden and ate the forbidden fruit, i.e. sinned. The punishment for the sin is death or separation from God. Adam was not deceived (1 Timothy 2:14). Because of his love for his wife, Adam ate the forbidden fruit (took upon himself her sin) to be united with her. This points out to the Messiah who, because of his love for his wife, the Church, took upon himself our sins and died for us."

I also heard somebody once say that the whole Exodus illustrates our salvation. Anyone care to elaborate?

How about the Lambs blood on the doorway for Passover. Jesus is called the Lamb of God.

Here's an interesting tidbit, I got this from A.I......

While I agree Adam was a "type" or "foreshadowing" of Messiah in that Adam left his Father to join his wife, I do not believe Adam "took upon himself her sin".

I believe Adam and Eve believed God's promise in Genesis 3:15, and God made offering for both Adam and Eve and made coats of skins from the offering (Genesis 3:21) ... the skins covered the shame of their sin.
