But you have been preaching it, repeatedly, all over the forum, as being preferable to being married.Singlehood is not being idolized, just being accepted. He who can accept it, let him accept it, saith the Lord.
You idolize it.

Only to those who idolize marriage. The right attitude is, either single or married, be content in every circumstance. But you have been preaching it, repeatedly, all over the forum, as being preferable to being married.

Bless you Lovette, you might be interested in some of my comments in the I Can Do Better thread by Lynx, yours are thoughtful and interesting for sure.Lately there're videos like this popped up, in which "egali-TA-rianism" and "complemen-TA-rianism" are harshly condemned as corruption of modern feminism, male headship in the family is reasserted.
The only problem with this is the all-or-nothing perfectionism in this individualistic culture, it presumes every man is naturally leader material, you must live up to this standard, with the possible consequence of being labelled misogynistic even within church communities, or you're a failure in your marriage and family in the eyes of God. If so, the only solution is to stay single and not bother with any woman at all, since all the argument in this video is built upon the narrative of marriage.
That is true.Only to those who idolize marriage. The right attitude is, either single or married, be content in every circumstance.

What you said about your Grandpa is definitely worth aStudies have also shown that as a woman's body count rises her ability to have a successful marriage and her ability to pair bond diminishes.
The only thing I'm putting down is the false prosperity gospel, that singlehood is nothing but a "preparing stage" for marriage, with no value or purpose of its own, and this false promise that your godly, most wonderful Prince Charming or Princess Buttercup will miraculously just drop by for your satisfaction, or to put it in another way, like Papagina saving Papagino from his solitude, when he was despeate to the point of suicide, if you're familiar with Mozart's Magic Flute. That's false prosperity gospel, behind the disguise of honoring marriage institution and upholding traditional value, as though getting married makes you closer to God, regardless of whom you marry. This is a true statement.
But you keep putting down married people and exalting singlehood all over the forum. You do not live out this statement.
Look, man, if you still don't get it, turn to Paul's teaching, he admitted that though he himself was content in singleness, God had endowed each individual with different gift; the only one size fits all formula is Christ, as for marriage, choose wisely according to your own gift and your own circumstance. If there are godly peers around, and marriage would bring you closer to Christ, get married; if there're only ungodly peers around, or no like minded peer at all, marriage with such would lure you away from Christ, stay single. Marriage is not superior over singlehood, neither is singlehood superior over marriage, both are means to the end of your devotion to God.This is a true statement.

I'm fine with it too, and I'm not here to defend the egalitarian or complementarian view, believe it or not. I'm just pointing out, that when this is applied as a hard qualification for marriage - not just excellent, model marriage, but all marriages, it essentially turns marriage into a privilege, not just only for those who can afford it, but also, only for those who can measure up to that demand; and the hypergamy (i.e. marrying up) has proven that this is a hard qualification for men to be respected, as women naturally admire men of higher status. Therefore, lower marriage rates and birth rates are the necessarily consequences, so don't complain about it - either QUALITY of marriage, or QUANTITY of marriage; either few but godly marriages , or more but ungodly marriages.Bless you Lovette, you might be interested in some of my comments in the I Can Do Better thread by Lynx, yours are thoughtful and interesting for sure.
Personally fine with male headship, i see so many sides to a situation sometimes, i can do an ouzelum bird; whereas men are more prone to winding up with metaphorical egg or pooh on their face. Also think people confuse headship with dominance, God tells Eve that Adam would dominate her post their eating the fruit but headship and domination; aren't the same thing at all. Don't think it was a punishment or curse either, seems it was just the natural result of her bad choice to me. Think a lot of women know what i mean, we're great at generating ideas but men are more decisive than us.
I have almost as many men friends, (i do mean platonic friends) as i do women friends. Really appreciate being able to run some of my more *out there* ideas past them, vive la différence!
I just presumed he or she did, since that's the message from most churches, if not all churches, and the secular culture at large. This is true.
But if you understand that, why did you rip into SoulFaith? Nothing SoulFaith said contradicted this. But you bashed SoulFaith as though SoulFaith had said "God has somebody for everyone, and if you wait patiently God will bring you your perfect match" when SoulFaith said nothing of the sort.
Hence the facepalms, and my question about whether you actually READ what SoulFaith said.I just presumed he or she did, since that's the message from most churches, if not all churches, and the secular culture at large.
Why do you care so much?Hence the facepalms, and my question about whether you actually READ what SoulFaith said.
A forum is a community. A community with a LOT of transients, but still a community. Why do you care so much?
Why do YOU sail through and blast people for what you assume they are saying, instead of what they actually say?Why do you care so much?
A forum is a community. A community with a LOT of transients, but still a community.
Person A comes in and blasts person B because of what A assumed B said, instead of what B really said. That's not just unfair for B, that's bad for the community. It muddies up the water we're all swimming in here.
I like this particular community and I don't like mud. So it affects me too. So I have a vested interest, i.e. I care.
Because this thread is titled "contentment in singlehood", and contentment is what I care. Why do YOU sail through and blast people for what you assume they are saying, instead of what they actually say?
It's the rational conclusion when you weigh the benefit and the cost. If you stay single, it's accepted, even preferred, even if you're unhappy; if you marry, but fail to measure up to these impossible standards, then you're surely condemned according to the message in this video.
I'm mainly doing this out of curiosity and, yes, entertainment. I, too, doubt that I will change his mind. I just keep wondering in what new directions these ideas will go, haha.To all who have been trying to reason with Lovette: Your goal is admirable and your tenacity, focus and energy are impressive, but Lovette is impervious to logic. Your efforts are ultimately, and sadly, futile.
I mean it IS entertaining, but in fairness I have to tell you that it is hopeless.
What's really hopeless is this idolatry of marriage and relationship, which would only backfire. You can either have low marriage rate with high quality, this headship principles strictly applied, or high marriage rate with low quality. You can't have a low marriage rate and complain about marriage decline, or a high marriage rate and complain about the lack of headship.
He who can accept it. In other words, lifelong singleness isn't for everyone.Singlehood is not being idolized, just being accepted. He who can accept it, let him accept it, saith the Lord.
