That is actually rather easy to resolve. Works do not earn you merit to get into heaven, but works are a sign of how closely you align with God. Those who love God will do things that please God, not to earn His pleasure but because they love Him
heb 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

"works are forbidden"

verses

"works are required"

((works are forbidden))

eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast

((works are required))

eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

how do you solve this apparent contradiction in scripture?

the solution: "initial the grace of justification"!

Jn 15:5 apart from Christ? nothing!

nothing of merit or value in God's eyes! nothing spiritual or supernatural, nothing meriting eternal salvation!

phil 4:13 with Christ? all things!

union

By the grace of justification received by faith and baptism we have union with God thru Christ, in the communion of saints, empowered by grace and life in the spirit to attain to eternal salvation on glory!

Our good works after we receive the grace of justification are transformed by grace and performed in grace united with Christ and given life of the spirit because of God's grace operating in us!

we do not possess eternal salvation in this life, but the grace of God that must be increased by good works (mt 7:7 mt 26:41 2 pet 3:18) and can be lost by deadly sin! (Eph 5:2-6
gal 5:1-4 gal 5:19-21 gal 6:7-8
1 cor 6:9-10 & 15-20)

redemption and justification are apart from works

sanctification and perseverance involve grace empowred works
supernatural works!

Your question about heaven and the fear of death reminded me of an experience I've never fully understood.

When I was 17, I had an accident at home and came very close to dying. I fainted while sitting on a chair, hit my head badly and stopped breathing. My parents were home and later told me that my skin turned gray and they thought they had lost me. The doctors later told my parents that if I had been alone at home, I probably would not have survived.

What I experienced during that time has stayed with me for over 30 years.

I felt as though I left my body and could see myself lying on the floor. Then I was moving upward through what seemed like a long tunnel toward a beautiful light and warmth. It felt as if I was being drawn by a powerful force. Along the sides, my life seemed to pass before me like a film in reverse. The last thing I heard was a baby crying, and someone said, "It's a girl."

After that, I found myself in a place filled with incredible light, warmth and peace. I remember thinking that I didn't want to leave. Then I heard a powerful voice say, "You are not supposed to be here yet." Suddenly it felt as if I was falling from a great height into darkness and cold. I opened my eyes to find many people standing around my hospital bed. My first words were simply, "Why are you all standing around my bed? I just want to sleep."

I've often wondered what happened that day. Was it simply a near-death experience? Was it something spiritual? Has anyone here experienced anything similar?

One thing I do know is that after that experience, my fear of death disappeared. I don't know exactly what happened, but it changed me.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, especially from a biblical perspective.

It certainly sounds like a Near Death Experience, which is also viewed by many as a spiritually transforming experience. It fits with similar accounts from cultures all around the world and across time, from 2 or 3 thousand years before Jesus to the modern day. And as for a biblical perspective, I would refer you to Psalm 23 where the speaker passes through the shadow or darkness of death into a very desirable realm. I might add that the colors in this desirable realm can be identified but are so much more intense and bright that they cannot be described, a dull red for example in that realm is far brighter than the brightest red in the physical world.

HOW CAN I BE 100% SURE THAT I WILL GO TO HEAVEN WHEN I DIE?

Jesus was asked a similar question in Luke 10:

25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”

Do your best to love and worship God and love your neighbor as yourself. That is all that is required by Christ. Which is important because He is the one who decides if we are or are not saved.
I try to live as righteous a life as possible since being baptised and try to live a sinless life. But I still have problems with things like swearing and smoking mainly. I wish God would speak to me directly so I know where I'm at spiritually because if theres no hope in making it to heaven then I may as well just live recklessly right?

God does not trade good deeds for salvation. You salvation is based on your love for God and your neighbors.

I did a check of your post against the Greyson Scale and from what you said, the experience would qualify as an NDE.

what is it?

what is grace?

thks
Grace is God's unmerited favor in which He shows us mercy, kindness, and patience instead of the judgment that we deserve for sinning against Him. God's grace cannot be earned by our actions/performance/works. Grace is based on the character of God and not on our sincerity, performance, or ability to keep the law. Otherwise, grace would not be grace.

Romans 11:6, "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace."

Galatians 2:21, "I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."

2 Timothy 1:9, "who has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity."

God's grace (enabling power) operates sovereignly in the lives of believers.

1 Corinthians 15:10 - But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.

2 Corinthians 1:12 - For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.

2 Corinthians 12:9 - And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
