There is no need for it to remain private; there is no good reason for acronymaphobia,
but just out of curiosity, which acronyms in the list do y'all like to use or at least not mind others using?

Re baptism and circumcision - WB, SB, PC and SC
Re election - TULIP and MFW
Re apologetics - UMI and PP
Re love and unity - LIC
Re salvation history - GRFS and POS
Re the teachings of Jesus and Paul - TOJ and TOP
Re God's Word and the Holy Spirit - GW, HS, NT and OT
Re heaven and hell - DOD
Re Christian Chat - CC

I will try to limit my use of those that are very objectionable to the majority for some good reason.
Ephesians 6:19
It would be better if we could focus on making known the mystery of the gospel if we didn't have to take pause in solving any other mysteries aside. For example, I see WB and read it Welcome Back by default in having frequented live chat, so it interrupts the flow of thought when I realize I've read it incorrectly and have to pause for a time to adequately reinterpret the true intention to be ...wiffle ball? no ...white board? that can't be... Warner Brothers! ... no... oh! of course! Water Baptism!! 🤦‍♀️

Even your Bible book codes are unfamiliar. RM is not used for Romans. NM is not used for Numbers or Nehemiah. CR is not used for Corinthians.

NT = New Testament, [GN, EX, LV, NM, DT;MT, MK, ACTS, RM, 1CR, etc.] = bible books

Quote: “There is no good reason for acronymaphobia.”

I strongly disagree. There is a very good reason for it. The tiresome superabundance of your joky little word puzzles slows down reading and repeatedly interrupts the flow of meaning from your keyboard to my brain.

Obviously none of your acronyms are “objectionable” in the sense of being offensive in themselves. The problem is that your use of all these abbreviations conveys the impression that you’re not prepared to take the trouble to make your posts readily intelligible, that is, to make them user-friendly. You’re signaling that it’s not worth your while to take your readers’ convenience into consideration. You’re dropping a heavy hint that you don’t give a hoot whether people read your posts or not.

Among the acronyms you’ve listed here, I would pick out four that are perfectly acceptable. OT, NT, and TULIP are entirely above suspicion. They are established abbreviations that have long been in widespread use in print and on the internet alike. To these three we can add CC, for obvious reasons. But, with all due respect, I think it might be a smart move on your part to leave it at that.

Thanks for that feedback, Barth, and I await seeing what others think,
but frankly, I think it is silly to object to learning such handy acronyms,
which should be learned by simply reading the list--they aren't rocket science!
Why would you not already be familiar with GW, HS and the opposite of TULIP, which is MFW after spending two days on CC?!

I admit that WB, SB, PC and SC are handy mainly when discussing baptism,
and UMI and DOD mainly when discussing apologetics, and TOJ and TOP when discussing the teachings of Jesus and Paul,
but GRFS is the most important information in life, so I encourage y'all to become familiar with its meaning.

And I realize y'all would not know the meaning of PP even when spelled out, but let me share it with you now while we wait for others to chime in:

An insight I would like to share is what I call the “Propensity Principle” (PP). The PP points out that until proof is provided in the future at the eschaton, humanity’s existential need and desire for eternal life and ultimate justice (the duo of desirables or DOD) make it logical for truthseekers to have a propensity to hope and believe a God who provides the DOD exists, to determine the most credible revelation of God’s requirement for attaining heaven, and to cooperate with His revealed will. IOW, it seems logical–given the existential facts of death and imperfect justice–that an unbiased truthseeker would have a propensity to hope the Christian view is correct, because there is no better (credible and desirable) way of attaining the DOD than NT theism. This PP restates Pascal’s wager in terms of comparison shopping (with all belief systems) instead of gambling.

The PP employs linear logic (rather than circular reasoning) to propose faith in the NT God as the best belief that solves the maze of reality as follows:

1. Current scientific knowledge cannot explain how the universe came to exist by means of natural causes, thus it is possible that the cause of the universe is a supernatural Creator/God.

2. The most creative species is humanity, whose traits also include language, moral conscience and God consciousness (personality), so it is possible that these human traits reflect attributes of a God who created humanity.

3. Existential reality indicates that humans are mortal and life is painful, but when life is happy, one wishes it would continue indefinitely. Thus, it is rational to seek ways to become immortal in a heavenly existence (where there is love and justice for all forever, the DOD).

4. Comparing all possible ways of achieving the DOD, the best or most credible way/hope at this point appears to be the God who resurrected Christ Jesus.

5. When words from God are sought, the NT teachings of Jesus and Paul seem to be the most highly inspired when compared with other scriptures (including the OT), because its concept of one God as the just and all-loving Judge (rationale for morality) is spiritually highest or most advanced, and the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus is most credible.

6. Thus, it is appropriate or wise to believe in the NT God and to accept Jesus as God’s Messiah.

Atheists deny the validity of this argument, but in the absence of disproof, I find the decision to reject the biblical gospel of salvation from selfishness, spiritual death, and a miserable destiny to be illogical or foolish. This is why all truthseekers should agree on NT theism now rather than assume atheism is an unlucky guess.

As someone has said, heaven is like a vision of water in the desert: the scoffer will surely die where he/she is, while the believer will live if right. Again, however, this analogy should be viewed in terms of comparison shopping and logic rather than of blind faith and fear. True love for God is evoked by His love for humanity and is a reflection of His loving Holy Spirit (1JN 4:7-12); it cannot be coerced, although it can be imitated (2CR 11:14 calls Satan an “angel of light”). Heaven may not be a mirage!

A biblical illustration of the PP is the OT story about Naaman
being told to bathe in the dirty Jordan River to cure his leprosy (2Kings 5:10-14). The Naaman Example teaches us not to let sinful pride prevent us from being cured of spiritual sickness by methods we think are silly or do not fully understand. Some people might not understand why God ordained Messiah to atone for humanity’s sins, so they think the Gospel seems foolish or silly (cf. 1Cor. 1:18-25). However, they accept physical reality without necessarily understanding very well how it works (cf. John 3:8), and Jesus said that those who seek salvation will find it, which indicates that God graces every sinful soul with the ability or opportunity to understand how to be saved (Matt. 7:7, cf. 1Tim. 2:3-4), which might be called “seeking grace”.

Those who reject the PP (and Naaman Example) apparently employ a logical fallacy that might be called non praecedere (comparable to non sequitur), making an unwarranted conclusion which precedes unknown facts, namely the cause for the universe “banging bigly”. Atheists assume a natural cause will be discovered, but their assumption is premature and thus inappropriate.

People are not going to memorize your idiosyncratic acronyms.

Your persistent use of them is merely adding bursts of noise to your signal, diminishing your effectiveness at communication.

It is unfortunate that members do not have signatures at the bottom of their posts in this forum.

Signatures tend to be verses or quotes or statements. In your case, the spelling out of the words of your acronyms could be your signature.

But you could put the meanings of your acronyms on a clipboard or notes on your computer, then copy and paste it at the bottom of every post, so people would know what you are talking about.

Post all of this on every post.

Thanks for your input also, Anch, but am I the only one on CC who loves to learn?
If I could learn those acronyms, anyone can, because I am a simple man.
I bet a ten-year-old could learn most of that list in two minutes; y'all are simply unwilling.

I only use RC = Roman Catholicism, RE/BE = Roman/Byzantine empire or emperor, EP = evangelical protestant in the HOB thread.
Don't y'all use GW = God’s Word (Scripture), OT = Old Testament (Covenant), NT = New Testament, HS = Holy Spirit, JC = Jesus Christ?

I have gone to a lot of trouble since joining CC converting my abbreviations for Bible Books used on my website [GN, EX, LV, NM, DT;MT, MK, ACTS, RM, 1CR, etc.] to the CC format for turning blue.

Surely you are not serious about attaching all of that to every post!

However, unfortunately I am aware of Paul not wanting us to be a stumblingblock to the weak (that is a joke folks),
so I am willing to stop using the acronyms y'all hate most.

Love your sense of humor, Mem, but you don't discuss baptism much, do ya?
When/if you do, you should find WB, SB and their counterparts regarding circumcision, PC & SC, quite handy.

I guess next y'all will object to me using my initials for my nametag.

STA; Say That Again?
WBNS; Wash Board Network System
PBRCs; Peanut Butter Reese's Cups

I had seriously thought that y'all might cite learning some new handy acronyms as something you learned on CC from discussions with me, but apparently that is not to be.

So which ones do you hate the most and definitely want me to stop using?

This reminds me of the scene in Good Morning, Vietnam: Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

You invented a bunch of acronyms, you use them in your posts, and you expect others to memorize them and to use them in their own posts.

Even if a lot of forum members memorized and used your acronyms, new visitors to this forum would be baffled at not only your posts, but the posts of many others.

But everybody resists learning your private codes, and they prefer to spell words out, rather than use your acronyms.

You have attempted to place an unnecessary burden on forum members. Your intention was good, but no one seems to be interested in memorizing or using your unusual forum-specific acronyms.

Have you thought about or considered those that are not great readers ?...It could be a stumbling block for them...I can read pretty well , but your way of writing with the letters are confusing for me so I just scroll past your posts...

I know. That is why I have been changing them on the website/resource--thousands!
How was I to know back in the 1960s that CC would require a different format for turning blue?

Matthew 18:1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

At the same time as what? At the same time as the transfiguration on the mount and the healing of the epileptic and Jesus saying that the sons of the king do not pay tribute.

2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

A little child wants to do everything and try everything. If you show them a piano they will want to play it. If you are singing a song they will want to sing with you. Later when we get older we get scared, we know how much work it is to learn how to play a piano and so we shy away, we know we don't have the "greatest" voice and so we defer. Why do Christians sit in pews and let someone else do all the speaking? Because we know how much work it is and that this person does it better than us. We need to be converted. We need to be just like we were when we first learned to walk or when we first learned to talk. Everyone starts out at that same spot, we simply have to focus on improvement. For example, consider Tom Brady, the quarterback. When he came into the NFL he was not a superstar, was not even a very good quarterback. If anything he had the bare minimum skill set for a quarterback in the NFL, but he gave himself fully to improve every day. According to his coach it was four years before he was a very good starting quarterback in the NFL. But he continued to improve until by the time he retired he was truly the greatest. He wasn't born that way, that is what we need to be converted from. I thought Michael Vick with all of his speed, or Aaron Rodgers with his incredible skill at throwing or Brett Favre with his incredibly powerful arm. Everyone has certain skills, but Brady showed us that regardless of the skills we are born with we can improve day by day until our skills exceed others.

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

It is humbling. According to his coach Brady started by taking the lead with the practice squad. He started at the bottom, he didn't despise correction, he embraced it. Everyday he was looking for one more thing he could be better at rather than thinking "how great he is" his thought was "how can I improve". He was the slowest quarterback in the league and knew that his job was to give the ball to someone else as quickly as possible. We need to humble ourselves.

5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

The other half of this "humbling ourself" is to appreciate the skills others have. It was amazing how Brady could take mediocre players and turn them into champions. One year he didn't have any "skilled players" on the offense with him and yet they went to the Superbowl. He won the "lowest scoring Superbowl in history".

6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Look at what is happening today. Many Christians have stepped forward to speak on the internet, on Youtube, on Facebook, etc. What do we see? We see other Christians mocking them, ridiculing them, insulting them. You need to believe in the Lord before you can step forward, but once you do step forward it doesn't mean you won't make mistakes. What we need is correction, encouragement, leading and guiding. We need coaching. Is it any surprise that the people who are in the hall of fame always turn out to be the ones who were the "most coachable"?

So then, your question -- I want every word to be meaningful. If an acronym adds meaning then that should be part of the message. If it is confusing, well Jesus is not the author of confusion.

I shared my beliefs using handy acronyms for the benefit of truthseekers, but yes, what you say is what I suspected: most folks are unwilling to learn even simple things like new acronyms. Frankly, I doubt that if I spelled everything out it would change that attitude, but I intend to change my habit and see if it makes a difference. However, I am amazed that y'all's list of accepted acronyms is so short!

So I ask everyone again which acronyms in the list are too difficult to learn and need to be eliminated?

Re baptism and circumcision - WB (water baptism), SB (Spirit baptism), PC (physical circumcision) and SC (spiritual circumcision)
Re election - TULIP (God hates humanity except for a favored few) and MFW (moral free will = able to repent/seek truth)
Re apologetics - UMI (universal moral authority) and PP (propensity principle)
Re love and unity - LIC (love in Christ)
Re salvation history - GRFS (God's requirement for salvation) and POS (plan of salvation)
Re the teachings of Jesus and Paul - TOJ (teaching of Jesus) and TOP (teaching of Paul)
Re God's Word and the Holy Spirit - GW (God's Word, HS (Holy Spirit), NT (New Testament) and OT (Old Testament)
Re heaven and hell - DOD (duo of desirables)
Re Christian Chat - CC (Christian Chat)

I will try to limit my use of those that are very objectionable to the majority for some good reason.
For example, I agree that I coined DOD and use it rarely, so I intend to delete that from my vocabulary immediately.
Although I did not invent UMI, I also use that rarely and will stop using it at all.
However, I use TOJ and TOP constantly on those threads and so will not stop.
Also, I consider GRFS and PP to be divinely inspired insights, so I will not omit those.
Do y'all really not understand GW, HS, NT and OT?!
Do you really object to LIC = ?!
What else?
