Sounds to me as if you have a trust issue with God. You don't trust God because you feel he does not show up in your life. However, the question you need to ask yourself is, have you given God good reason to trust you?
I have a some of questions for you Eric. I ask you to take a couple of minutes to meditate on each question before moving on to the next and please be honest with yourself and God.
Do you really love Jesus?
Are you aware that Jesus bore your sins on the cross?
Do you fully realize that you are just as much to blame as anyone else for nailing Him to that tree?
Are you willing to accept responsibility for your involvement and repent with your whole heart?
Do you understand that Jesus died so that you may be forgiven?
Now, do you truly love Jesus?
This my brother is the beauty of the cross. Their is power through the cross to save, to heal, and to deliver. I say these things because I want you to understand there there is a huge different between simply believing in God and actually trusting in God. The only way to truly put your trust in Him is by coming to a full understanding of what Jesus did for you on the cross and falling in love with Him for what He has done for you. It is that love, a love which a mutual love, that will bring you through the hardest of times and the toughest temptations. For the love of and for God is greater than any desire of the flesh.
Now to answer your question, why is God not honoring your prayers and moving on your behalf? Two reasons:
#1. Lack of relationship
#2. Lack of Trust
Let's address #1. Lack of Relationship. Do your pursue God whole heartedly or he's just but one part of your life? Is god the center of your life? Is God the first thing you take into consideration when making decisions? Every time you speak? Every time you act? The answer for almost everyone is a definite no however, if we truly love Jesus, that should be the desire of our Heart.
Now let's address #2. Lack of Trust. In scripture Jesus said "If you love me, obey my commandments." however if you do a deeper study you will find that what Jesus was really saying here is "If you love me, put your trust in me. Obey me and see that I am in deed true to my word." With that in mind, let me ask you, do you trust God enough to be obedient to His word? If so, well do you know his word? How often do you read his word (which also relates to fellowship)? Once you have proven that you are trustworthy not only in obedience but also in relationship, I am more than confident that God will honor your prayers. Not because of any works that you have done but because your prayers are no longer self centered prayers but instead your prayers become thoughts, the desires and will of the Father's.
Matthew 6:31 - 33 (NAS)
"Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing? For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you"
