It's just a flower. My favorite. I didn't buy bokets, just single flowers, always a yellow rose. My wife never appreciated the yellow roses I brought home for her. I never gave her anything but my favorite flower anyway. Don't know why I like yellow roses so much, but I do.

Anthuriums!!!
One of the many floral banes of my existence!
I love their bright, heart-shaped flowers, especially contrasted against their dark green leaves.
I've tried having them in nearly every location I've lived in.... But have never been successful with a single one. I was so excited when one anthurium I had formed a new flower bud -- but somehow I killed it before the conch-shaped bud every opened.
This past weekend, the local Lawn & Garden Shop was having its annual one-day sale, and I could hear the siren call of a cluster of anthuriums calling me...
Somehow, I managed to resist.
But I won't be able to resist these beauties forever!
Love the pink shade, I've never seen them that colour before!Ah...

In real life, I've seen all these colors EXCEPT the purple and butter yellow on the bottom.
Oh my goodness, if I saw a purple one in a shop, it would be ALL OVER.
I would just HAVE to try one more time!
Aw, why not? Was she allergic? Or was she fussy and wanted only red?
I would have loved any colour roses, as long as the thorns were sort of cut off. They can hurt!
The yellow roses have the sweetest fragrance but it does depend on where and how you grow them, what time of day you pluck them etc. Commercially grown roses for the cut-flower industry often just don't have any scent at all.
I love classic roses in any color...
Last year I saw purple roses for the first time:
It was $40 and more than I wanted to spend for one plant... so I put money away for the following year.
I also live in an apartment so I can only keep things in containers.
I had the money this year, but unfortunately, didn't see any purple rose bushes for sale!!
Pink and red are my favorites, but I love most any colors or breeds that are unique from the ordinary.

When we lived at Beale AFB I created a large rose garden with mostly different varieties of yellow roses, but had some of other colors as well. Every rose bush I planted promised to have a nice aroma. When the flowers would all bloom the aroma was amazing. People would stop on the sidewalk as that wonderful aroma would hit them. I was in rose heaven with that first bloom. Then overnight deer ate every last flower and continued to consume the buds as they formed... such is life sometimes...
She was a person who just didn't know a good thing when it was presented to her.

A bouquet is traditionally tossed by the bride at a wedding. Whoever catches it is said to be the next one to be married. Mostly the single ladies are encouraged to gather round to catch it and if there are more than 2 or 3 vying for it and the bride doesn't know who to toss it to, she just tosses it up in the air and its just luck if someone manages to catch it before it falls to the ground.
Men or grooms usually just have a corsage or a flower in their buttonhole, usually a single carnation.
I mean thats the tradition for a white wedding. If you have a colourful wedding there are other floral traditions.

All the naked ones seem to be female. But that's not true because biologically the male part of the flower is the stamen, and the female is the ovule.
I mean rose varieties can be male eg Graham Thomas, and there is one called Sexy Rexy!
I just went to water my outside plants this morning...
I bought a small pink rose bush last summer (I can only keep it in a container since I don't have a yard,) and kept it indoors last winter with grow lights. I think the poor thing was confused, because it produced a few roses AND seemed to go dormant at the same time, losing half its leaves.
I put it back outside in April, but it hasn't done well -- though it grew a few roses, the leaves didn't grow back and it's been looking spindly and weak all summer. Since I'd gotten it for half price anyway, I figured it ran its course and planned to chuck it at the end of the season.
Wouldn't you know it, in the past 2 weeks, that little plant is pushing out new leaves like someone zapped it with some kind of floral defibrillator and brought it back to life!!
It's almost as if it knew my macabre plans and is desperately saying, "Don't throw me away! I'll be good, I promise!!!"
I'm glad I didn't buy any new plants this year. The ones I have were all kept inside over winter, and (except for the roses) look even better than they did last year.
But now they're also twice as big -- so I'm going to have to really map out my space and figure out how they'll all fit indoors this winter -- along with buying a new lamp and grow light bulbs.
Le sigh.
