Hey Everyone,

In the past few threads, I've been enjoying reading a poster's comments about the things that have been very, very good to him (such as basketball and brisket,) and the things that have NOT been very, very good to him (such as jello casseroles.)

Naturally, I started to wonder what other people would say have been very, very good to them -- and what have not.

I know we can ALL say that God has been very, very good to us! 🙏🏼💖💐

But what other things, both silly and serious, have been very good to you... or not?

* What about people? Family, teachers, bosses, and co-workers?

* Places? What places have lifted your spirits? What places were disappointments, or do you now avoid?

* Foods? What foods have you found to be very, very good? And what are some.. that need to be thrown into the Lake of Fire? (Reference to a past thread!)

* Sports, hobbies, or activities? What things did you find you were good at -- or maybe not so good?

For me --

1. I am so blessed to have family and friends who have been very, very good to me. Distance, however, is NOT very good to me, as all of my friends are thousands of miles away. But, I'm very thankful to keep in touch with daily chats, email, and occasional phone calls and visits. :D

2. I've lived in a few different places and most were very good -- interesting sites to see, fun things to do, and good churches. However, the heat in some of the areas was NOT good to me at all, sometimes giving me heat rashes and definitely reinforcing my love of The Great INdoors!

CC has also been very good to me, even though I was a bit of a firecracker when I got here (imagine that!!) 😆But, the CC administration gave me a chance, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity and friends I've made here. 🙏

3. There are so many foods I WANT to be good to me, but unfortunately, are not very good for me (chocolate, pasta, desserts.) Although it's definitely not a favorite food, spinach has been very good to me. It's the one vegetable I can always seem to manage to eat, no matter how tired I get of eating vegetables.

4. Walking has been very good to me. I'm horribly clumsy and terrible at any sport, so I've always relied on walking for exercise. Throughout my life, walking was always available and usually low-cost (I did finally buy a treadmill but become painfully bored on it.) I've always felt blessed to have explored some really neat places, like garden centers and old churches -- just by walking through them! 🤓

I can also say that COUCHES (especially the extra fluffy, cozy kind,) have been very, very good to me...

But unfortunately, they're NOT very good FOR me. 😭

Now it's your turn!

What things have been very, very good -- and not so very, very good -- for you? 😀

You're so far away
Doesn't anybody stay
In one place anymore?
It would be so fine
To see your face at my door
Doesn't help to know
That you're so far away

The bosses at my job have been pretty good. I don't call out a lot, but if I need a day off I get it. I've even got it on the same day as the local high school graduation, when EVERYBODY wanted that day off. (I didn't know that was graduation day when I requested it...)

Fake food doesn't sit very well. For many years I puked every time I ate that fake chicken that is glued together bits instead of a real chicken fillet. Dunno what caused it, but I just could not keep that stuff down. Fish strips made from "minced pieces" isn't so good either. Maybe I'm sensitive to the food glue they use in that stuff.

Dark chocolate actually lowers my glucose.

It's awesome to work for bosses that come to respect you as a person.

A particular former boss comes to mind...

He had a rough 'n' tumble kind of personality, coming across as a a bit cold and aloof at first, but once you proved that you were a worker, he'd really go to bat for you if you needed something.

Since I'm famous for derailing my own threads... 😆

This is an interesting point.

A friend and I have very sensitive skin -- many of the current "hyped" ingredients they put in ALMOST EVERY skincare product today (niacinamide and hyaluronic acid) makes our faces burn and peel. It's been really difficult to find things without them.

But we were lamenting that even when we find things with ingredients we think are "safe" for us, we still often have a reaction (and sometimes not right away, but say over a week of using it.)

I heard a video saying that it's possible to have reactions to the things used to extract various ingredients. Companies have to disclose what's in their product, but not all the other chemicals/products used to collect/harvest them. (If someone out there knows better, feel free to correct me anything I get wrong.

I wonder if this is why there are SO many allergies and sensitivities these days.

Maybe some people aren't allergic to the actual product, but rather the ingredients or methods used on the things the product is made of (or held together by.)

What percentage of cocoa do you gentlemen find that it has to be effective (and still tasty?)

I can (sort of) handle 70%, but I tried 85% once and nearly had to tap out.

It was the only time ever I had to force myself to finish a bar of chocolate. 😕

70% for me, but I won't pass up 85%.

Verily I say unto thee, let no man judge thee in what chocolate thou eatest, either in cocoa percentage or in sweetness, either milk or dark. For no man eateth for his own health, but for his own enjoyment doth every man eat.

Thus if thou must strive to eat chocolate then verily thou art eating it wrong.

(But that H word still ain't real chocolate.) :p

This runs against the norm here, but if you were retired like me Covid was financially very good to me. All the extra income from all the stimulus programs allowed me to pay the balance of my mortgage. Then the COLAs from the Biden Administration more than paid for any increase in my cost of living.

I won't bore ya'll with the scientific stuff I learned, but turns out there is some truth to this.

Okay, see Seoul, Now you're asking for it

To sum it up in an AI nutshell:

Lol.

I was all on board until it got to the part about "limiting portions," and "avoid add-in's" (on other words, avoid anything tasty.) 😭

What kind of fun is that?! Bah humbug.

I was hoping you'd find an answer saying that chocolate is a magical panacea -- and as long as it's 70%, I could eat unlimited amounts! 😆🐖

My favorite food is the hamburger. Nothing else compares. That said, I also enjoy lots of other foods. Pepperoni pizza with tons of pepperoni on it, and I have to add lots of crushed red pepper. That's the only kind of pizza I want to eat. In Boston recently, I ordered an 18" pizza and paid for triple pepperoni. I ended up with an average of two thin pepperoni pieces on each slice. That was a MAJOR disappointment. The good thing that happened was I got caught in a downpour without an umbrella while walking back to the motel. I took a wrong turn and, well, it took me a while to find the motel. By the time I got there both the pizza box and the pizza inside were mush, so I went without dinner, which was just as well given the lack of pepperoni... I love deep fried breaded halibut and rockfish. I love calamari/squid. I love fried chicken and I love eastern Carolina BBQ. I love a good soft, moist biscuit.

Brussels sprouts, artichokes, and anything else I haven't eaten because I don't like the looks of or the smell of all belong in the lake of fire!

When I was young, before I became a basket case, I surfed, windsurfed, snow boarded before snowboarding was cool, snorkeled and scuba dived, ran multiple marathons, etc. I can't do any of that now but I'm glad I did those things when I could.

Life is a blessing. Live it to the fullest, in Christ. That is the only way to live well... in Christ.
