According to my Dad, music changed in 1964. The British 'invaded'

I wasn't sure what he meant but I'm supposing there was a plague of beatles in the USA and it drove out the crickets.

Yes the british "invasion". It was a new kind of rock and roll from the beatles, the rolling stones, dave clark five and a bunch of others. But Temptations is Motown, not rock and roll. Motown is kind of like R&B. Elvis, Chuck Berry, James Brown were rock and roll before the british invasion.

Elvis kind of "borrowed" R&B and made a new kind of music 'Rock-a-billy' i.e Rock + country , then became rock n' roll

Beatles kind of transformed Rock and roll into plain Rock. Rolling Stones made it Hard. 'Hark Rock' , which became Rock Metal. You also had 'Soft Rock'

Then Rick Astley rickrolled it.

So there goes (some of) my musical edumication.

Weren't they all on drugs? And the Beatles can be blamed for introducting TM and yoga to the 'west' and making it cool and trendy. They also did LSD

I wouldn't know anything about 'being stoned' from back in the day, I don't know.

Yea Elvis was R&B, country and rock rolled into one, but he's known as the king of rock n' roll.

But I think it was Laura Nyro version that I heard.

This song was the one Anna Chlumsky sang along to when she was mooning over her school teacher in My Girl.

Oh yea that video is actually from 1969 (it's been remastered for better quality). The singer is Marilyn McCoo and that's her husband Billy Davis Jr.. This is their most famous hit song.
