To be honest, I think literature is dead, Harry Potter is probably the last epic series, and now it's being trashed simply for the author's common sense. There's nothing else worth reading, it's all progressive garbage, especially since the launch of generative AI. Not only is there nothing new, but the old classics are being perverted, those tech lords are actively destroying old rare books to train their models. I'm sadded, even terrified. You know, one of the greatest tragedy is that you only realize how precious something is when it's gone, forever, and all you can do is lamenting it. And that's why I'm determined to preserve and read books, as someone who used to hate reading.

I have to agree to an extent, which is why I rarely get into books.

I do have a favorite author, Dean Koontz, but these days I read his books because I admire him as a person more than his stories. There's a lot of repetition, but that can be expected since he's put out so much work over the years. But I greatly admire him because he and his wife are involved in a lot of charities and philanthropy.

The last couple of books I picked up at random just to try new authors bored me to death. I never got into Harry Potter but did see the movies (just because I was going to Universal theme parks at the time and wanted to know what I'd be looking at.)

So... This is why I primarily read articles, and usually non-fiction.

My favorite topics are things like everyday living (tips and tricks for more efficient routines, etc.), home dec, modern social topics and trends (to know what people are up to,) travel, finance, and articles that explain the cultural context of Scripture.

Outside of our Lord s protection, there are a lot of dramas.

A tennis couple was a good match. They met at playing tennis. After married, they continue playing.

But the guy had affairs, there ends the perfect match.

A match based on earthly interests does not last too long.

I have thought a lot about this over the years...

The kinds of people who seem so bored/unsatisfied with their own lives (or can't stand the idea of peace,) that they are constantly picking fights with other people because they find the drama so much more exciting than their own situation. Or maybe they grew up in that environment and what they feel most familiar with.

So they're always starting something with someone, whether their own spouse, family, or other people around them.

I know it's always existed but I wonder if it's one of those social things that people observed, but didn't know what to call it or how to label it at the time -- because it seems absolutely rampant now.

I mean, I get bored with life and like to stir up drama too -- hence this thread -- but my favorite way is to try to make people laugh.

Sorry, @Churchgoer -- I'm just rambling out loud.

I know my thoughts here don't have much to do with your post -- it's just that the tennis match reminded me of people who ALWAYS have to have some kind of back-and-forth drama going -- even if they have to start it themselves.

100% agree!!!

I miss real magazines.

They're a bit of a trap nowadays though (at least here in the USA.) Most that you used to be monthly have now gone to bi-monthly or quarterly, with the product being so thin (and full of ads,) that it's just not worth the money.

They also trap you into a never-ending subscription. They all want you to pay online, and when you do, you're signing on to automatically renew every year. If you want out, you generally have to jump through a bunch of hoops to stop the subscription (it's like that with most subscription-based services here in the US, as all businesses are moving to that model.)

Magazines used to be full of little cards where you sent in a check to subscribe (no access to your credit card,) but not anymore, so I no longer subscribe (plus, as mentioned, they're so scant it's really a rip-off.)

I have mourned so many magazines I used to love. They were one of my few splurges. I had a few of my own subscriptions, and for others, I'd go to the library.

But now, all my favorite magazines either no longer exist, or the ones the library carries aren't the ones I'm interested in.

Or else she just thinks I'm not doung anything and so I need to pet and play with the dog. Though I did reread a good chunk of introverts in the church recently. But I rather like the fantasy genre so bring on the hobbits, dwarves, dragons, and magic

Yes, I love picture books!!

I enjoyed the Hobbit graphic novel and think that adaption is a classic in itself, and very true to how I imagind the OG Hobbit was in my imagination.

I'm always disappointed when I go to a cafe, or as we used to call them a 'coffee shop' that there are no coffee table books in them.

Some have magazines, but really where are the coffee tables? A coffee table book is the perfect size book to put your coffee mug on.
Usually big, fat, landscape tomes that are way to heavy to fit on a regular shelf so they have to lie flat. And they have amazing pictures, mostly photographic.

I'd choose giant Atlases as they are great conversation starters.

I love K-drama. They are so good and often very original.

I have many favorites but here are two of my favorite series:

Rooftop Prince​

It's about an heir apparent prince in the Joseon era whose wife got killed. He tries to investigate with three of his closest friend in court but somehow inadvertently all gets thrown into our modern times. He sees his wife reincarnated as someone else but she doesn't recognize him.

The whole story flashes back and forth from the Joseon period to the modern times. I love it because you get to see their beautiful hanboks (the period dress). It is also about an unrequited love and selfless sacrifice. Also about royal intrigue in the Joseon era, but also in the now.

It also breaks the fourth wall because when his three friends enter a corporate building for something, the producers of the show have a cameo appearance and the three friends actual bow down to them!

There is so much to it that it would take a long time to tell. You really should see it, it is SUCH A GOOD STORY!

It's on Netflix, but you can also see it on Kocowa on Amazon or Viki (which are Asian-specific streaming services) subscriptions.


Arang and the Magistrate (Tale of Arang)

Is about a ghost who doesn't know who she is, how she died, and why, and a magistrate (kind of like a police officer) who has the ability to see ghosts. When she realizes that he can see her, she asks him to find out all the answers to her questions.

I love this story too. It's not scary like ghosts are in the West often are and it's also funny.

You can also see this in the three streaming services above.
