God didn't let David build the Temple but had Solomon in mind. In David's obedience he gathered all of the materials for Solomon. But it's intriguing to think God made Elijah reject Him in favor for Elisha to anoint the king. Anything is possible. But thinking that rejecting God is actually obeying God is a different sort of nuance to consider.

Rejecting God is never obedience, but disobedience can serve God's purposes.

I don't believe our thinking is far apart. You are able to follow nuances in discussions more than many and I have been enjoying going a little deeper in scripture than many discussions allow. I truly appreciate the discourse.

Sure, it can include lots of things. But relating the counsel of God's own will to the choices of men misses the point of the verse. The verse speaks of the activity of God apart from the activity of man, and even in spite of the activity of man.

You seem to have God reacting to the activity of man or in response to what He knows. I'm saying things work out as they do because God is actively engaged and directing the affairs of man.

I believe everyone who has posted in this thread agrees that God permits human rebellion and God will ultimately hold evil powers accountable and bring about His own righteous justice.

Not everyone who has posted in this thread agrees that God "actively" directs mankind to make war with the saints (Daniel 7:21) ... nor does God "actively" direct mankind to speak pompous, blasphemous words against Himself (Daniel 7:25).

It is God who will cause the saints to ultimately prevail against the four kingdoms:

Daniel 7:18 But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.


Daniel then considered the fourth beast, which was different from the other three, as well as the horns (Daniel 7:19-20) which warred and prevailed against the saints (Daniel 7:21) until ...

Daniel 7:22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

Daniel 7:26-27 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

This is why I believe I introduced Daniel 7. The chapter teaches that God acted and 4 successive kingdoms came into being. Those kingdoms were characterized by certain attributes using symbolism.

The kingdoms were already in existence as early as Genesis 10 to as late as 30 years before Daniel wrote the vision.

God is sovereign over all and it is God Who allows earthly kingdoms and wicked rulers to exist for a time.

God allowed Babylon to conquer Israel in fulfillment of what He told the children of Israel back in Leviticus 26:17 if they turned from Him "I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you". If the children of Israel had not turned from God, the hand of the enemy would have been stayed by God. But Israel did turn and suffered the consequence.

And there is a time coming when God shall establish His everlasting Kingdom ... the Kingdom of which there is no end.

But God wasn't reacting to what He knew would characterize those kingdoms. He created those kingdoms to be as they were. He wasn't operating according to foreknowledge. He was actively creating things to work according to the counsel of His own will. In other words, He created them as He did to fulfill His purposes.

disagree God "created those kingdoms to be as they were". What God "created" is described in the opening chapters of Genesis ... the garden which Adam and Eve were to dress and keep.

What occurred at the time Adam and Eve sinned is described in Romans 8:22 ... "the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now" ... not because God "created" the heavens and the earth to groan and travail in pain together, but because God allowed to occur what occurred back in Genesis 3. And God, knowing what would occur, planned for the redemption of mankind from the foundation of the world, the plan about which satan knew nothing because it was hid in God.
