Genesis 2:7
then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Breath
neshâmâh
nesh-aw-maw'
From H5395; a puff, that is, wind, angry or vital breath, divine inspiration, intellect or (concretely) an animal: - blast, (that) breath (-eth), inspiration, soul, spirit.

Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

The spirit in people is the breath of life for without the spirit the body is dead.

God breathed the breath of life, spirit in to Adam to activate him to life.

The breath of life, spirit goes back to God who gave it no matter if the person is saved or not.

Ecc 3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

The beast's also have a spirit it's lifeforce but it goes downward.

So it appears that a physical body cannot come to life without a spark to activate it.

Agree

Just as our parents made us from the earth but our spirit comes from the Lord

The earth is not alive which it is not a living physical object and Adam was made of the dust of the earth so God had to breathe the breath of life, spirt that is life in to Adam to cause him to come to life.

Adam as dust alone coming from the earth would not be alive like we can make a clay statue of a person but it does not live.

Or is there more to the story?

Did a living soul become a man, or did a man become a living soul?

Does anyone know the point I am making?
Gen 2:7 says man BECAME a living soul. In the original Hebrew the words were "hay nepes". It means living being or living creature. The same words are used in Gen 1:21 & 24 but were translated in the KJV as "living creature" describing when God created the birds, fish, animals, bugs, etc.

Rev 16:3 uses the words living soul which the original Greek also translates as living being/creature.

So, what you are suggesting is that Adam already existed as a spirit, then he was breathed into, and incorporated into, the dust.

Therefore, the spirit of Adam 'became' a living soul. Is that how you understand it?
That's not what I said. The word "spirit" most times in both OT and NT (ruah in Hebrew, pneuma in the Greek) translates also as air/breath/wind and in some cases has been translated as both spirit AND breath in the same verses. Psa 104:29-30
Wind and breath in Eze 37:9 both are the same word ruah.
"Ruah Elohim" is the Spirit of God" in Gen 1:2 "Ruah Eloha" in Job 27:3
What happened at the Great Flood? Gen 7:21&22

Consider Luke 23:46 "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost."
The word "spirit" here is the Greek word "pneuma" which also translates as air/wind/breath. And the phrase "gave up the ghost" has the same meaning in OT Hebrew as it does in NT Greek - "to breath one's last [breath]".
There is no indication anywhere in scripture (save in parables using symbolic terminology) that indicates anything non-corporeal survives after the body dies.
It's a state of complete nonexistence. You were not alive before you were created and (if not for a resurrection from the dead in the last days) you will not ever exist again.
Here are a few texts if you are interested (there are more):
Perpetual sleep, do not awake - Jer 51:57
Have no thoughts - Psa 146:4
Have no emotions, no knowledge, no wisdom - Ecc 9:5-6 & 10
Cannot praise God - Isa 33:18
King David has yet to ascend into heaven - Acts 2:29&34
Paul knew he would have to wait in the grave until Jesus comes to receive his crown - II Tim 4:6-8
So did Job - Job 19:26

Those last 2 refer to life AFTER a full physical resurrection.

David--How do you incorporate This Jeremiah verse

Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

God is omniscient. He knows all things. Even before He creates them.

If you plant an apple seed do you know what it will grow into? Even before the seed sprouts, before the tree exists?
Of course. You know where you planted it, where it will live.
You know WHY you planted, what it is for.
But it does not exist yet......

do you think we are all unique?

So, Levi did not exist in the loins of Abraham before he was conceived?

Hebrews 7:9-10 - And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

Abel did not really cry from the ground after being murdered?

Genesis 4:10 - And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.

Isn't the life in the blood?

Are the accounts of the rich man and Lazarus not to be believed?

Who are the spirits in prison?

1 Peter 3:19 - By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison

They don't seem non-existent to me.

But it does not exist yet......

Not even in the Book of Life that was written before the world began?

Revelation 17:8 -The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

Ephesians 1:4 - According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

What are those names anyhow? Like 'Billy' or 'Suzie'?

So, Levi did not exist in the loins of Abraham before he was conceived?

Hebrews 7:9-10 - And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

Your questions have been answered. Presenting parables, symbolisms and proverbial imagery that go against the plain teachings of scripture is a futile attempt to uphold pagan theologies as Christian teachings.

Breath is spirit. When God created all things and spoke them into existence it was by his breath, or spirit that they came to be.The earth would be alive in that sense since it's building foundation came from God's spirit. It has spirit. That's wild.
In all things you'd see spirit, water, blood because that's God essence, his Godhead.

romans 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.

In everything it is clearly seen.An example would be oxygen which comes in spirit. It enters your lungs and without it you'll die. When it enters your lungs and you testify the word of God,the breath of life enter all who hear, repent and are born again.
That's God making a way to reconcile all unto himself with you as his witness. When you're doing that it's like the word of God being written on 2 stone tablets. They become living stones.
Same thing with your feet and hands.10 digits for the commandments/the word.2 for the word/water and blood.
God makes a way for your walk, or works through spirit, water, bloodSame with your eyes and ears.Your nose.Everything created is like this, and can be "clearly seen."
