oh ok we don't have that here. Maybe because we are an Island (actually 2 big ones and lots of little ones) and if anyone wants to go through borders they have to hop on a boat or plane they can't just climb a wall, drive or walk over.

That's quite interesting as with all the varying degrees of liberal reputation church houses we have here that supports all sexual expression, still, all these have counter denominations of the same name: Catholic, Methodist, Episcopal, Mennonite, Church of Christ (the constant flag-bearer). The Church of the Brethren is the only one in our area that does not. The public reader boards out front are careful how things are worded. You have to visit some of them to see what is cooking behind the talk. Not just the flag nonsense. If true to His message, we don't need a flag to remind us 'we are one in Christ'!
Not nit-picking, but the verse actually says:

It is one of those Bible passages, like "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil" that is often misquoted.
Yeah. Proverbs 16:18 fits only if we assume the play on the word "pride". I think they would get it. Like they do with the word gay. When I was young, I was told by my brother in laws mother that they used to call cigarettes 'fags'. I guess slang evolves. Everything seems to have two or more meaning these days. It's a source of "pride" in some neighborhoods to invent new slang. Word! lol

Anyway the rainbow came from Judy Garland's song "Over the Rainbow' and how that came about was because she was liked by gay people. She somehow had an affinity with them, plus her dad, who was one. Her dad died when she was 13 and she had no idea that he was a homosexual but it was a well-known secret that he was, even though he had 3 daughters with his wife.
Anyway her dad who was a theatre guy was run out of town for it, he was preying on young boys.
So what happened was when Judy Garland died, I think it was 1967 or thereabouts, she was only 47 but had lived a life on drugs because of the Wizard of Oz movie (loong story, maybe will tell that one another time, but its out there and you can read about it) she had her funeral in New York and everyone was mourning. She was like America's sweetheart and as well known as Princess Diana in her day.
Some drag queens were mourning/comisserating in a gay bar but at the time that was illegal to be gay (still is in some countries its criminalised, you could go to jail for it) so it had to be secret. The police raided the gay bar but the drag queens pushed back and there was a riot. It was in a place called Stonewall in NYC.
So that was where the movement started, because everyone was playing the 'Over the Rainbow' song when she died, and she used to end it in every concert, sometimes she couldn't even sing it as she'd lost her voice, so the crowd had to sing it to her. The rainbow became a the symbol for the gay movement. I don't know how the 'pride' thing got added but I guess they didn't want to be ashamed of it anymore.

I think everyone must know this song...if you haven't heard Judy Garland sing it then maybe you haven't lived in the 20th century, Eva Cassidy also sang a beautiful version of it, and the Hawaiin guy with the ukelele was popular, Sorry I forget his name

Trivia..it was originally in the 1939 movie the Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland played Dorothy.
It was actually going to be cut from the film, but they kept it in. It expresses Dorothy's longing for something beyond her Kansas existence -- the world was all in black and white/sepia before she somehow crash lands into Oz, then everything turns to technicolour

In 1930s they had dustbowl in America midwest. That is a part of history of the depression which was one of the darkest days of American existence. For people who lived in that tornado stricken part of the country, it was a hard life. Your world was basically how to survive on the farm, which had turned to dust because of drought and bad farming practises. Literally the wind blew dust over everyone and nobody could go outside and not get dust or dirt all over them.
