Much like New Zealand as a nation.......... I lived there briefly in the 1960's. My family emigrated from the UK. My father was unimpressed and arranged for me to move to Australia to stay with my uncle. That was late in 1966. My family stayed in NZ. I've lived in Australia ever since. I meet a lot of Kiwis in Australia.​
 
A lot of ex-pats which is immigrants by another name.

Moving to Aussie is a regular ritual for Nzers. Some come back, but others never return because its hard for them to live here especially for UKers as they complain an awful lot (we call them whinging Poms) its like they are not happy with anything, and can't go back to their own country.

A lot of UKers see NZ as a stepping stone to Australia, but they could have gone there first and saved themselves the bother. lol

Our migration laws have changed. Because I was an NZ resident, I was automatically given permanent residency in Aus. It would not happen now. I'd better shut up now. If I start on migration policy, i could find myself in trouble with the thought police here.​
 
its ok, in future you won't need a visa/passport to go to Australia, well I was told the law was going to change back.

But there is still strict border control at the ports because we don't want Australian fruit flies or moths over here it would devastate our crops, and our native flora and fauna suffer when other foreign species are introduced here. It is a land where the only mammals were bats for a long time.

Tell me about it. We also have strict biosecurity controls, yet we also have fire ants. Somehow they snuck through. One of our most destructive pests is the feral cat. I love cats, but they are excellent hunters. We kept ours indoors.

The other more, dangerous invasive species has two legs. it has a nasty habit of killing anything that offends it or tries to escape its control. I won't mention it by name. I don't want to upset our thought police.

Yes. It was a culture shock. We did not bring our vehicle with us as we were told they were readily available in NZ. Big mistake. My dad went to buy one. At first, he thought a car yard was a museum. The car park was like a 1940's movie set. Restaurant food was terrible, so at least we were used to that.

It's obviously much different now. I've traveled there several times for work and you have hot and cold running water now (just kidding......). Since I'm not a rugby fan, I'll never fit in.

Yea rugby is a big deal in NZ. In Australia it doesn't seem to be as big a deal. Maybe its because the grass is greener in NZ? In Australia you most likely playing on scorched earth.
