I am not in the US, nationhood is a funny thing. I read in the paper that the UK wants to break up. They didn't want to be part of the EU, ok they are an island nation, fair enough. But now Scotland, Wales and Northern Island want to be their own, independent from England, who so far, has seemed to control everything (from capital London) so it may no longer be the 'United Kingdom'.

Canada has its own issues where the French speaking Quebocois want separatism from the English speaking everyone else.

But who can forget South Africa. Apartheid, and they didn't even care about the different languages, or culture or what not they just graded all people by colour.

Women are needed in the police force it's true there may be a sliding scale. They have a vital role in it for keeping the peace. The Police isn't JUST about physical strength and yes women who are in it need to be tough, but women are needed.

It does kind of bum you out though to be employed as the 'token' because of DEI policy and then be treated as 'special' because you are in the minority. Some workplaces are heavily skewed toward one gender. Its an ideal to have equal representation but doesn't always happen. I've worked in female dominated workplaces and male dominated ones...and each has its issues.

It's a lot easier to work somewhere were everyone is valued for who they are and their skills rather than their (priveliged) background.

Equality doesn’t mean getting the benefits of one standard while demanding exceptions from the other.

The point being, if you want equality, then it must all be equal, not just some of it. Hire the best person for the job. That's all that equality, and the law askes for. If it's all women who are the most qualified applicants for one particular job, so be it. If it's all men, so be it. If it's all white who happen to be the best applicants of that time of hiring, so be it. If it's all black, so be it. That way there are no tokens, there are only the best job applicants who were hired.

Men lost their jobs when they were more qualified because of gender discrimination. There's no way around it, that's discrimination. Equality must be blind, not partially blind. The police and firefighters depend on each other for their very lives. The physical part of the test is necessary, not just for the sake of the citizens, but also for the firefighters and police to have each others backs and protect each other. Attacks from riots, dragging people out of buildings on fire, etc. lives are on the line.

It's just about balance.

Some organisations like to be a pyramid, and you certainly know if you're at the bottom of the heap.

I'm not a fire-fighter, but there are plenty in Australia and some of them are women. They are all dedicated to their jobs, no matter what gender they are. I don't think they got there because of 'blindness' but their capabilities.

The paramedics and the ambulance drivers (have been in a few) are not just male, many were female and as good drivers as the male ones.

So I don't know what weird employment practices you have in your country, but that's not the case for our emergency services here. And the St Johns Ambulance is actually voluntary. As has been firefighters. It's not like a regular job.
Thankfully I haven't been too involved with the Police but when I needed to there were female police officers, and they had victim support (women were especially valued in those roles) female detectives, traffic wardens and it was not like there was limited quotas for them, or it didn't seem so to me.

Where do you work? Have you been discriminated against? You can take your grievances to the Department of Labour if you've lost your job unfairly, and didn't receive any decent redundancy package.

Because of the world wars, women had needed to fill in men's roles while the men went and fought. When they got back, they found that women who enjoyed the work were not willing to give up their jobs for the men just so they could stay at home when they were already doing both.

Why we talking about gender? I thought this was meant to be about AI. I wouldn't rely on AI for everything. Sometimes you actually have to think for yourself.
