Direction is important..
- The Shadow: A shadow has no life of its own; it only exists because a real object is casting it. The seventh-day Sabbath was a shadow cast forward into history to show what true rest would look like.
- The Body: Once the Actual person arrives, you no longer look at or cling to the shadow on the ground. You look at the person. Christ is the substance.
The things that are a shadow were cerimonial feasts and introduced services that pointed forward to Jesus.
The lamb, the blood offering, the pass over. They all pointed to Jesus. Jesus is the true literal type, that cast a shadow back in time. Shadows were finished at the literal time of Jesus when type meet antitype.
But the sabbath does not fit this pattern.
It was made for man before a saviour was needed. It was created at the beginning before sin.
The shadow was not created before sin.
When we are asked to Remember the sabbath day we are not pointed to the cross in the future but to creation in the past.
The sabbath is kept in remembrance is of creation. Creation is not a shadow that is nailed to the cross.
The sabbath is more then just rest.
It is a sanctified and holy and blessed day to remember God as the creator and Lord.
Exo 20:8-11
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God:
The sabbath of the LORD thy God. Sounds like more then a shadow...
..... 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
If it was blessed and hallowed or sanctified before sin when has this ever been changed? Not a shadow.
The sabbath looks back
Shadows looked forward.
