Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Speak PEACE.

Let There Be Peace on Earth - YouTube

^ hear the song ^

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.

A couple of days ago a young man (former atheist) we’d been discussing scripture with gave his heart to Christ here in CC. He commented that one of the things that had softened his heart was the respectful welcome and answers he’d received here, rather than being pounced upon as he had expected. He also commented on the loving, encouraging atmosphere we provide for one another here.

By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. ~ John 13:35

In talking with Violakat and some others in chat yesterday, we were very disturbed at the “clanging gong” atmosphere we were seeing in both the forums and chatrooms. It occurred to me that satan also heard what the young man who was saved said, you know? I don’t imagine he cared for that, do you? ;) When we’re just butting our heads together in here none of us are really learning anything or encouraging anyone, are we? That whole teachable spirit thing just flies right out the window when we dig in, doesn’t it? And when that happens, it’s not the Father’s business we are about…it’s someone else’s…

I found myself looking again at a very disturbing thread in this forum last night and started typing what was on my mind…and my spirit (wo)man rose up, tapped me on the shoulder and said, “Hey Lil Miss Intensity, you need to dial it back a notch or two.” :) So I closed the program and went to chill elsewhere for a time.

As some of you know, I suffered a pretty bad fall last weekend. The swelling from the injury and inflammation of the nerves has been extremely painful and pretty incapacitating temporarily. They are giving me some pretty hefty doses of steroids to get this under control; but, as some of you may know, meds like that can make one uberemotional....ugh...hate that... I found myself crying like a big ole girl several times yesterday and ready to rip someone’s head off the next. That’s not who I am at all. And it’s sure not who I’ve been called to be, is it? Meds or no meds, a child of God has no excuse for behaving like that. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit that shouldn’t be affected by such things and I don’t want it to be.

So…this thread is here to serve as a banner to me as much as anyone else. J If I can’t say something funny or encouraging, I’m not going to say anything at all.

Yeah…Christmas is the time of year when the world seems to pretend to care about peace for a time, but we, as God’s kids, need to:

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. ~ Psalm 34:14

Don’t we?

Peace out. ;)

I've gotten good at avoiding discussions that I know will become heated and will lead to nowhere. I found that if I even made one little post I could not ignore someone's counter-reply and would end up headlong into the argument just trying to defend what I originally said and getting frustrated and hot tempered because the other person/s are relentless in their arguments and will just overlook things I've said or facts that I've presented so they can keep arguing. In the end, its just a big waste of time and energy trying to correct people who don't want to be corrected.

We have to choose our battles wisely...and that means staying out of the battlefield completely or else you will most likely find yourself in the crosshairs. Joel Osteen gave a good sermon on this called something like "Choosing your battles wisely".

I think what distressed me the most about what's been happening, is that I was seeing friends turn on each other. Sometimes we forget, that in our desire to prove something as right, or discredit someone, we can trample on our friends. This happened to me this past summer. A friend decided that he had to discredit someone by twisting my words to mock her. I ended up reacting out of hurt, instead of allowing my temper to calm down. As a result, things escalated to the point where we ended up no longer being friends. I was left devastated by what happened. And even though I tried to apologize for my part, the damage had already been done. I think Zero has a good point. We need to choose our battles wisely. Is it really worth loosing a friendship over.

And Jules, I kept thinking there was a verse like that somewhere in the Bible. Thanks for posting it.

Romans 12 speaks directly toward this very topic :)

So true! :)

I really enjoy a lot of the discussions I read. I don't just want to share my thoughts, I want to read what others have to say. That's one of the reasons I will often start a thread posing a question to the forum without saying what I think. I already KNOW what I think. :) I've learned a lot here and my mind has even been changed about some things, and that's saying a lot for someone as hardheaded as I am. :D

What bugs me is when things get to the point where no one is really learning or listening or caring anymore, and it becomes about who can be the squeakiest wheel on the merry-go-round. Such was a conversation I heard yesterday when I entered one of the chatrooms. No one was really listening to anyone else. If they had been, they would have seen that they'd repeated themselves at least 3 times within a 10 minute period...and it had just become a bunch of people trying to see who could talk the loudest for the longest, as if somehow that makes one right. :)

You have a beautiful heart. It's a joy to be your friend.
