I don’t know if it is possible, in a detailed manner, to define sin. However, I believe this statement by Jesus goes a long way in accomplishing that:

[20] And he said, "What comes out of a man is what defiles a man.
[21] For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery,
[22] coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.
[23] All these evil things come from within, and they defile a man." Mark 7:20-23 RSV

Romans 14:22-23

22Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

23And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

I like this one:

James 4:17 - "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

What about all these things?:

[21] For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery,
[22] coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.

When we sin we experience difficulty. When we cease sin, difficulty disappears.

Jesus said the first and great commandment was to love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and souls. He said that there was a second like it: love our neighbors as ourselves.

I think an important sin is pride.

Exodus 31:18
(18) And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

Notice that the 10 commandments were given on 2 tables of stone, Jesus summed up the 10 commandments in two. I agree with pride cause pride sees no need. The middle letter of pride is "I" the middle letter of sin is "I". Look at the 10 commandments there is no selfishness in them.

Actually, when we cease to sin..difficulties come, Satan is well and truly alive on earth and will attempt to sway us with difficulties.

Yes Rev 12:17 says that Satan is at war with those who keep the commandments of God. Look at Job.

Sin is the nature in man that is alienated and contrary to God that resides not only in the heart of man but in the members of his own body that makes him do the things he should not, neglect the things he should be doing and when he does does good and the things he should, condemns him with evil still present with him. This is the definition of a body of sin and death with a residing sin nature that has not been eradicated from the cells of his body. Man is totally depraved through sin and is separated from the nature and essence of who God is from the womb. This is why God sent His Son, to pay for sin, to crucify sin and suffer the penalty of sin through death.

Sin is everything and all things that have been inherited from Adam's sin, separating man from God through his imaginations, through his thoughts, through his words and through his deeds or lack thereof. Sin has corrupted man to have his own self-image to serve and esteem self above all things that pertains to God's righteousness and true holiness. Sin has made man to live through himself, for himself, to benefit and serve himself with all his self-oriented intentions to better himself at the exclusion of God. Sin is the very nature within man that opposes God and is rejected and disapproved by God, even every aspect of human good that originated through the self-life of man's adamic nature.

I think one reason I get bored is that I let myself get run down.
