I would appreciate it if when you give your opinion that you give a reason for said opinion. Or else it's really not worth putting out there in my book. Also, if your reason includes a Holy Bible reference used correctly in context, that would STRONGLY add to said argument.

Really?? Ok, I'll just go to my little corner now and cry. Boo hoo hoo.

You make me chuckle. I really have no response for that. I guess I shouldn't try to make people feel sorry for themselves, I suppose I just like it when people appreciate the art of conjecture.

Welll, you don't have to make me feel sorry for myself. I already do that without anyone's help and I'm really good at it too. Its easy when you have no life like me :)

Although Jesus told his disciples to get swords, he also told them off when attacking the soldiers coming to get Him...

In the general topic of guns: If you as a Christian are willing to say "if he wants to kill me I will kill him" than that is up to you,
but I personally think God sees killing as killing. And please don't quite the OT, unless you can say that you live by all the OT rules.

Have you guys ever heard of Glen Ake and Steven Hatch?and what they did to that pastors family?
just something for you to think about

As for Matthew 26:50-53, you missed verse 54! There was a reason why Jesus stopped Peter! Read it in context.

Now, c'mon Mrdll. Reading things in context is just too much work! =) It's easier to pick and choose verses to make the Bible say what we want! ;)

I'd just like to point out how much I really like Zeroturbulence's picture!

At first when I seen the name of this thread I thought "Is this a joke?!"

What would cause a person to carry a gun for protection? The only way this can be justified is that guns are carried out of fear.

Matthew 10:28

King James Version (KJV)

28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Psalm 23:4

King James Version (KJV)

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

1 John 4:18

King James Version (KJV)

18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

If Jesus quoted the OT. I feel fine quoting it.

Good use of Scripture, but carrying a gun can be justified for protection for one's family, life or belongings rather than fear. It's to keep people away. It isn't thought much of in good neighborhoods, but there are places where it could very easily be justified.

Jesus wouldn't carry a gun. "Those who live by the sword die by the sword." I don't think Jesus would NEED weapons, but if he had all Earthly human limitations again, I don't think he'd lower himself to carrying a weapon around.

Fear is what would most likely cause a person to buy a gun to protect these things, would it not?

We should put our faith in God for protection, not weapons.

Psalm 91

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge—
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”

I would much rather let God fight my battles for me, God never loses.

I absolutely agree. Beautiful Psalm as well. :)

No guns at the time. Invalid question.

Jesus is God. If he wants to pour out wrath, guns or human weapons aren't necessary.

People the vast majority of the time approach this issue with little theological understanding. This isn't a simple issue to deal with. In the process, many are condemning the Israelites for their actions, while having been commanded by God.

If using guns for defense indicates a lack of faith, then care to explain why the Israelites defended their nation with weapons? Is that not a lack of faith as well? (be careful with this one, I ask it for a reason)

I don't think I could have said it better.

Brandon, it's not a matter of whether Jesus would carry one or not. The real question should be, are we as Christians suppose to defend others in anyway, including taking the life of another if needed.

So let me pose this question to you. You see a man, with a knife in his hands, approaching a mother cowering with a baby in her arms. He's yelling at the top of his lungs that he is going to kill her and her child. You are the only one around and so the only one who can do anything. However, you can't get to her in time before he kills her, unless you use a gun. What are you going to do?

It's not so simple to answer when you look at it this way.
Yes, Jesus wouldn't carry a gun, simply because He is God. He has all the power in the universe to stop time, if He wanted. We, however, are not God. Instead, we must use the resources that God gives us to protect others. Guns, in themselves, are not bad. It's the motive of the people behind the guns, that makes the use good or bad.

Use a taser. ;)

Use a taser. ;)

And yet a taser can be just as deadly. And you have to be close to the person to use the taser, as you only have so much yardage ( I know that not the right word, but hey. When one has a sinus infection, one is allowed some leeway.)

I have a question for all. Do you believe that God will protect you and/or your loved ones when facing any danger? Just a simple yes or no.

If it's His will. And if I have enough faith, and if I don't let fear distract the heck outta me while I'm praying for help if a disaster happens. Sorry, I gotta specify beyond a simple yes. =)
