Does anyone read the NIV regularly? I have decided to read the whole NIV. How many people have read the whole NIV? What can you say about the NIV?

Dear jonathan:

The best verse in the NIV is Isaiah 53:11

NIV. The second best NIV

verse is Galatians 5:5,

"the righteousness for which we hope", which

has it exactly, instead of the more wooden,

overly literal "hope of righteousness" of the

KJV. Compare Isaiah 53:11 NIV with the KJV.

The NIV has the Septuagint Greek and the

Dead Sea Scrolls Bible word light (light of life

NIV).

As a basis to go by (I personally like the KJV and the NKJV [moreso KJV]), just make sure it says that Jesus is God and the basic things. If it has something like Mary was a damsel and not a virgin, pitch it in the trash.

i use the 1984 NIV most often and i like it...it is one of the best if not -the- best...

i also have a 2011 NIV but i think it is a step in the wrong direction...

I avoid the NIV if possible. Too many errors and mis-translations, even omissions !!

I agree! The NIV omits over 40 versus, questions the deity of Christ, says Jesus had a day of purification and states Joseph was the father of Jesus among many other issues. I have one to compare it to other translations, I do not use it for study or for reading God's word.

When I was first saved, I went to the local Barnes and Noble and bought the first Bible I saw, which was a TNIV. This was well before I was aware of any controversies regarding one Bible translation or another, and as far as I was concerned, it did a pretty good job for me. I did recently get a NKJV, and I kind of like it a bit better.

The NIV is the only one I have read cover to cover. I prefer the New King James now, but the NIV was strong and beautiful through the Psalms.

Do I credit the controversies mentioned above? Sure. (If I was reading it now, I'd look into it.)
