Most of the time I spend on this site is in chat, but once in a while I like to venture into the forums, usually the Bible Study forum to see what's going on. Most of the time I only read, although it happens that I feel obligated to respond occasionally.
Very rarely, I will post a thread of my own.

Reading through all the threads posted in this forum, I always wonder what goes through our heads as we reply a certain way, or post on a certain topic. I know some people are here searching, and will post in order to get a variety of views on the topic at hand. Some people feel they should post on certain topics to inform others on these things. All to often though, it seems like some of the post are always directed at people who hold a certain belief.

This makes me wonder, as I have been guilty of it myself, why do we really take the time? Are we posting for the benefit of ourselves, or even the benefit of others..or are we posting in order to glorify our own beliefs? Do we take the time to study these subjects out to grow spiritually ourselves, or is it only so we can show others that they are wrong and we're correct? Do we ever take the time to actually read and gain an understanding of the belief another person holds before we disregard, and even sometimes attack it?

These are all questions I've pondered..and I'm only hoping these will be questions that we will all ask ourselves as we come to post in the forum, as this should be a place of edification, not of tearing down. I also hope this isn't misunderstood by some, because my point is not that beliefs that are clearly unbiblical should go untouched, but that sometimes it is better to understand why a person believes the way they do before they are cast away. It is always good to discuss these things to gain an understanding, but I would caution of getting caught up in arguing a point that is not critical to our faith.

I hope all who take the the time to read this will take it into consideration. God bless.

If another person's belief is not in harmony with the Inspired Word of God it should be disregarded.

I believe you missed my qualifying statement that beliefs that are obviously unbiblical should not be left untouched. Please don't misunderstand me.

I agree too many people attack each other throwing verses at each other, rather than sitting down and trying to understand why they feel the bible says what they think it says. If they are definitely wrong then you can gently take their verses and show them that in the context of the passages, the verse(s) don't say what they are trying to make it say.

musiclover123...I believe it is important to our faith is to stand firm in the truth.
Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth)

We are to stand firm when it comes to the truth even to the point of arguing. But I believe it should be done with love and kindness toward a fellow believer. There are so many people who stand firm in their man made doctrine that they refuse to see the truth. And in my opinion that is why people believe the way they do. Scripture tells us,

2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Which in my opinion again, is the time we are in. And I believe they will not endure sound doctrine, no matter why they believe the way they do. We have made our beliefs to fit our lifestyle instead of our lifestyle to fit the Word of God.
I believe the best thing we can do is to continue to speak the truth, hope, and pray that the Lord will open their eyes.

I sometimes am saddened by the way words are spoken .
For the arguements can be discourageing.
But as many have agreed, truth in scripture does need to be witnessed to.
But scripture says as well that God can make all things to His glory!
So when we see those posts that seem to steal or destroy, all we need to do is to in prayer, set it all before God in Jesus's name with praise and thanksgiving.
For Our Lord God is powerful, and will bring His glory in all things.

God bless

It is the Holy Spirit who identifies Scriptural Truth. I try to keep an open mind as I read blogs, newsletters and other trumpeters of individually held opinions. The Holy Spirit has never let me down in pointing out those to be ignored. I remember a famous illustration told about Dr. Ryrie many years ago (Dr. Ryrie of the famous study Bible reputation)......someone once suggested that he should delete some passages that SEEMED to conflict with traditionally held doctrine. Dr. Ryrie's reply? "In many cases, the Scriptures are like a catfish bone. When consuming it, you consume the good stuff and throw out the bone"......It is the Holy Spirit that tells us the difference.....

those are questions you can't really answer for anyone but yourself for only you and God knows what truly goes through our hearts and minds.

However just because some one defends their beliefs firmly does not mean they don't respect people with other views. I know quite a lot of people I don't agree with and on the forums we discuss a topic until we come to an understanding that neither one of us is going to change our minds on the topic and move on to another one and allow God to work in our lives to conform us to His image and reveal His truth.

I believe if we pray for the each other God will lead us to where He wants us.

humble and contrite hearts, it might not be conveyed through words but God knows.
