I'm slightly curious about those who like to go shopping, especially when a sale is on. This also includes those that are strapped for money or are on a tight budget.

When it comes to money and me, I am ashamed to say that I like it. Of course, I use it for the basic necessities, and try to hold on to it and stretch it. But, when I look at the image on the bill or the coin, Mark 12:17 comes to mind. Naturally, I offer my ten percent, and the rest comes second. And once I have paid off whatever it is that needed to be paid off, I try and hold on to whatever it is I have for future use. But there comes several times when family will ask for money. Especially, the older or elder ones who ask for a pretty large sum. It kinda hurts my invisable greedy bone, and I cringe on the inside. But Matthew 5:42, and Luke 6:30; 31, tend to pop into mind once that greed passes and fades into guilt.

I was just wonder what goes through your mind when someone does something similar. Do you go comepletely selfless or do you withhold?
 
When i go shopping (and i love it ;) ) i pray asking God wisdom before i buy, in the past i didnt do that and i ended many times shopping things that i never used, so now i pray and it works to me.
And when someone ask me for money, usually the ppl in the street i think about Matthew 5:42 i dont believe them many times about the reasons that they give me or sometimes they dont seem to be sick as they say or something like that, but i give them money anyway,(not big amounts because i dont have a lot of money either) but i give them because in bible say "give to the one who asks you"
 
I do like Liz, I give to strangers when asked because it says to in the bible (Luke 6:30) unless I really can't afford to, and I believe that God will reward me either in this world or the next for my charitable deed whether or not the person I gave it to was honest or not.

But if it is a family member and I know that they just are being irresponsible with their own finances and want me to give them money so they can continue being irresponsible I will not give them any.

I think that if someone of my family do that Zero, then that would be a hard decision
 
I hate spending money and love saving. I never realized it was a problem until I became older and HAD to pay bills :) I believe as Liz has said, I give when it's needed and when I can do so without causing too much strain on my finances. When it comes to my family I always struggle because I see the careless way they are living. I still give to them unless it's supporting a bad habit. I do believe we are suppose to help others.

With everything I feel it's important to pray about each situation and go with whatever you feel the Lord is telling you to do.
 
Well, you gotta have money first to go shopping. Jus' sayin'....

As i understand those versicles of bible, God asks us to give if someone asks and not to give them only if we like the purpose of the money, so for me the hard thing would be actually giving without asking but bible is very clear and i thing is mandatory for us to give even if we know that the money will be used not as we want..........unless you remember a versicle in which we have the option ;)

Kooper, it sounds like your relatives may be trying to take advantage of you. I don't think it's your "invisible greedy bone" that's irking you, I think it's your "this person is using me unfairly" reflex. I am right now trying to imagine myself asking a younger relative for money, and it just isn't coming to me. MAYBE if it was a matter of life and death, or losing the house, and I planned on paying it back. But, seriously, would you do that to a younger relative? No? Didn't think so.

Selflessness is good, but our finances belong to God, even beyond the obligatory 10%. If your relatives aren't using the money wisely, then giving it to them isn't really any better than wasting it, yourself. I would commit the matter to prayer, until you feel peaceful about it, either way. :)

P.S. Glad you like shopping sales. Thrift stores are great, too, and always an adventure. :)

If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever (1 Timothy 5:8)

wow Zero, i didnt remeber that versicle, i think im going to call you when i need to find one, sometimes i read te bible and i miss some things

y, zere, you the man , preaching the good words of God now, maybe He is doing it because of your telling your angel story. just saying as not only do girls like it when we open up in a relationship. so does God :)
