Justgrin, I agree with ritt, too, trying to prepare is good, it , in itself, can advance our faith , but.... I think we can prepare for certain things but I think that preparation for readiness of a life or death situation would depend on how strong a faith was had in God leading up to that moment and based on our personal relationship with God, how much we trust Him.
Didn't Jesus ask Peter a few times: Do you trust me , Peter?
Let me reiterate too: saying 'yes' or 'no' does NOT condemn you . God bases our salvation and eternal.life on ONE thing , one word, rather, and I will use one verse: John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
---
Believe. That is the ONLY prerequisite for life everlasting with God after we die. Sure, there is a lot to that word 'believe,' but just saying it is sooo easy to become a child of our King. :)

I completely agree with you Green, but I one of the 'verse of the day' things I have on my computer made me wonder. I thought I would share it with you. What do you think of the following verse? I know God knows our hearts and that covers all, but does this change anything??

Matthew 10:32-33
32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.

Just thoughts :) I think it's an interesting topic.

I'm not sure if I would die or not for Christ, simply, because I have never been put into that situation. I'd like to say yes, that I would. I know that God would give me strength and faith to carry me through situations like that.

I think another question to ask is, Would you live for Him. It's not easy trying to live a Christian life. Yet we are called to do so.

----------------------------------------
I'm also not voting, simply because I do not know what I would do in any situation.

I like that question too. Easy answer: I live for Jesus, God, and, Holy Spirit inside me.
Our helper , not to mention, friend, IS the Holy Spirit.

You know the verse, right? Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. God is inside us, so, don't you want to live for the One who made you, keeps you, blesses you :)

With the Holy Spirit inside our body, we should EMPHATICALLY, in that 'Columbine' or '911' death moment of our life , know what to do. The Lord leads. :)

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. ~I Cor 10:13

Absolutely, Ritter. If this is a test that will come into our lives, God will faithfully prepare us for it.
Yes, God will get you through. I love the powerful meaning of this verse, julieannie. We will make mistakes, get ourselves in a situation-relationship, location, etc.-of deep doo-doo and God will allow us to escape its grip. :)

There are times in my earlier life where I would have said no... or at least contemplated it for a second. But there is no question now that I would say Yes.. :) Kind of refreshing to know that. Thanks for the question!

That is called 'growth,' Jheart. Awesome !

The Lord leads , glad He gave me the question to help us all understand this better . :)

Hmmmmm, probing my green brains are you, JustGrin? :D

Hhhhh, I dk. Idk. Scripture is in many versions . One version, mine says, 'therefore whoever confesses me before men. Nkjv

Other version, like your version, says, ' therefore whoever confesses me before others.

I think matt.10:32-33 refers to telling people about Jesus when the Lord leads you. I just don't think a life-or-death situation is in this judgmental (32 verse - 'confess before Father your name , 33 - 'deny before...name' . And I paraphrase from my version, but gist same I hope) verses' context.
But certainly, regarding opportunity to witness , these two verses are very important to keep in mind. I let the Lord lead, but, yes, part of believing in God as your Saviour , is doing things that will seem uncomfortable , like witnessing, and, allowing your faith to grow you closer to God through that opportunity. :)

----
Excellent. Not saying I go there , but good words, so maybe you should get yourself in that Tuesday 6pm bible study, girl :)

Well said , you blessed me, making me thinking of those two verses , strained my green brains too :D God is always teaching us, Justgrin, God bless you.

Truthfully, I'd wanna save my own butt....so I'd probably just blurt out "I don't know".
I know the "right" answer would be yes...but I guess I'm just not that noble of a person that I'd risk my life to say it.

At least not at this point. Perhaps someday, when I am more sure of myself in my faith.

I guess we will.never know, rel, if Schnuur saying 'no' (instead of what she did say, 'yes') when killer Klebold asked her, 'do you believe in God?'

Schnuur said 'yes' and Klebold did not kill her.

So, does thar change your mind?
----
I would just not want to make my deciclsion out of cowardice, I know I could though, I am ready to die for Christ but I want to stay ready too (not actually be put in a 'Schnuur' situation.)

As someone else said, you never know until you are there, but the answer that comes from my heart is YESS! DEFINITELY.

I reread this carefully like 8 times, and I still don't understand what you are asking, I'm sorry.

This might sound weird to some but I've actually had dreams of being martyred for the faith before. Talk about intense!

My close friends and family members in the Lord have already been instructed, if anyone were put a gun to my head and demand that they renounce their faith in the Lord, the only words out their mouths should be a short simple prayer offering my soul to heaven because that's exactly what I would do for them if the roles were reversed.

I heard a story once, which I believe took place in China, about how a couple of military or police officers had burst into an underground church service, pulled out their weapons and stated 'If any of you will deny Christ you can leave right now" to which a handful of people did so and fled from the service. The officers repeated themselves until they were certain that their were no more left that were not willing to lay down their own lives for the Gospel.

Then, once they were confident that all who were willing to denounce Christ had left, they put their guns down, professed their own personal faith in Christ, then asked everyone's forgiveness because they themselves did not feel safe participating in a church service where there might be people who would be willing to identify them if their own lives were threatened. The people started rejoicing and it was an awesome service.

The Lord leads, KayM. Just follow Him, the rest is easy. :)

I reread this carefully like 8 times, and I still don't understand what you are asking, I'm sorry.

Rel, as I said to KayM, the Lord leads, we only need have our lives with belief in Him and everything will turn out right.

And, regarding your being confused (and don't worry, some people like Nods, I think, reread my stuff 10 times and still don't get what I say. Gotta be the green in me, but, HEY, i gotta be green :D ), i am just saying that saying 'yes' to believing in God saved Valerie Schnuur. So.....you said you were going to save yourself by saying 'no,' well , yes, that is noble but if killer is going to only shoot/kill you if you say 'no' then it would therefore been better to say 'yes.' :)

Cool, crossfyre, God speaks to us all the time, even can condition us for what He has planned Sudáfrica for us in the future.

Maybe the fact you dreaming of being a martyr has nothing to do with you dying, probably nothing, the Lord leads, . To me, that kind of dreaming shows God your willingness to go into tough posgrado, like city church activities to witness to homeless or even start a ministry of your own somewhere where danger is....

But never forget , in midst of all danger, is God, never leaving you, hebrews 13:5 , and, God is an ever-present help in our times of danger. Psalms 46:1 :)

Thanks Green! :) This thread has certainly blessed me. Never hurts to think on things.

Im not trying to be rude green, but when you tell stories like these in "your' kinda way, you know the way you tell things. I seriously cant unerstand them, it sounds really interesting, but its to confusing for me to really understand.

Would you mind re telling it to where i can understand??

I know Ed's not easy to decipher, Nod. No offense, Ed! :) Here's basically what he said:

He said that Cassie Bernall is not really the one who professed to believing in God by saying "yes" when asked by the killer just before he shot her dead. That is what everyone thinks, but according to Ed's information, witnesses who were there said that the girl who really said "yes" to God was Valerie Schnuur who was lying on the floor already shot 15 times from the killers' previous rampage. Klebold asked her why she believed and she said "Because I believe and my parents raised me that way", then he shot her again, but SHE SURVIVED. According to Ed's info, Cassie Bernall was heard praying out loud across the room and the killer simply ducked under the desk, said "peek-a-boo" and shot her dead.

Thaaaank you! Thats a lot better .

I didn't realize a zero could be a hero, but, zere, this proves you are one of a kind :D

Ah, okay. And no problem, just wanted to be clear before answering such a strong question. :)

As for saving myself...if I read your story correct the person got 15 gun wounds. I'm thinking either dying and being put out of my misery (or not getting shot at all obviously) might have been the better option.

Yes, rel, and, so you know, the Lord leads, but me speaking here, admirable that you can speak honestly your 'no' answer. That is unfearing.

I do see a lot in you, young lady, you are sweet and kind and I see serving Him through your time spent here. You are a good example of a baby Christian, embracing all God wants for you, all good things :)
That is an honest understanding of your faith and makes your faith develop, boldly :)
---
Yes, huh, amazing to me, too, Schnuur was hit by 15 bullets and still the power God resonating through her when her time such as this came( read , rel, the book of Esther, it speaks of Queen Esther's bold act to save her Jewish people, THOUSANDS OF THEM, from death). Remember when you read the words, 'for a time such as this,' and, 'if I perish....' :)

There is something I want to share here and I would imagine that other christians who have knocked at death's door a time or two (or in my case 4-5) can tell you the same, when the time comes that you feel you may be facing the last moment of your life, there is an OVERWHELMING peace and godly presence that comes upon you. It's indescribable. If God asks your life of you for His Name and His glory, you will be able to lay it down because He will HELP you do it. Fear not.

It's too bad we don't have a 'like' button... very good word!

Who is she, chiclette?

I'm not Chiclette, but I'll answer.
She was the first victim of the Columbine attacks.
------------------
I'm curious as to why only the Columbine attack has been remembered, as the one of Christian Martyrdom in the US. Around the same time as the Columbine attacks, there were Churches were gunmen came in and shot people. One I remember the most was the one in Fort Worth, TX. And that's because I lived in a nearby city. But I remember there were other incidents of church shootings, and also of kids being shot at in schools.
