that is not an example of generational curses.
generational curses are from God not men.
the cure to Sin is NOT sinning less but JESUS washing you clean of the filth you have built up in you mind.
if a child played in the mud puddle, you would not go, well if you want to get clean, just play less in the mud.
i'm so confused, What????
that is not an example of generational curses.

Correct. There is a lot of, primarily charismatic, teaching out about generational curses that us wholly unscriptural.
after reading your response I'm not sure what you disagree with me about but ok...maybe I didn't word my thought clearly... I'll try to respond to your post and maybe it will help us both verbalize our beliefs?
Jesus is the cure to mental illness not pills. someone commented that if sin was a mental illness they could just take a pill to cure it. however anyone who has worked with the mentally ill know that pills do not cure, they suppress and have very bad long term side effects like liver failure among the most common and other physical downturns for taking such medicines. I don't believe in drug up ADHD kids either but that is another topic. most of those kids aren't challenged enough or expected to sit still in a desk and learn when they would do better with hands one interactive lessons. but that is my personal teaching philosophy.
yeah most of it is environmental because we live in a sinful fallen world and people selfishly abuse others especially children because of the depravities that people did to them. its a vicious cycle that demons entice people to repeat over and over again. that is how they enslave humanity by getting them to abuse the ones they should love. Genetics has a factor but some mentally retarded kids are so because their mothers took some drug or drink alcohol. back a few decades ago they had a drug for morning sickness that caused the babies to be born without limbs. "science" at work.
sorry if that sounds a little cynical. if you didn't know me and how much I love true science and the discovery of the natural world and how God created the universe and the laws in it, you might misunderstand. Eventually I want to be a high school science teacher and current taking classes for it and substituting mostly for special needs classes and sometimes the things you see and hear just breaks your heart.
ever felt like you might be the only sane person in the world only to learn that you have hangups and issues as well?
people are born self centered. they have t o be taught to share. watch a group of kids, sharing is NOT natural but learnt behaviour. kids don't do it because it is the right thing to do. they do it because they think they will get an award or will avoid punishment by doing it.
what your mother's problem is, is that she has not been born again and have the Holy Spirit to teach and guide her in His ways.
that is the problem with most of the world. sometimes we can just pray, be patient and show them love and forgiveness and watch God transform their hearts and lives. I'm not very old but I've seen it done, sometimes it takes years but in the end what is a few years for an eternity with God?
but have you realized the beginning cycle of selfishness that caused your mother to be damaged and abused and build the walls and strongholds to protect herself from the world out of fear?
God is more then selfless. He is divine order, truth, justice, love, peace, joy, and so much more that words have not even been spoke to describe the depth and goodness of God.
I see were we disagree now.
No I don't think mental illness is a result of an individuals selfishness but the world's and the people who sin against and abuse those people. I believe many of the mentally and physically handicap people are bearing the cross for others who have sinned against them and against others like them. I believe that when Jesus comes they will be healed and rewarded for their love and faithfulness and that the world will be judged by how they treat these little ones.
No I didn't post to argue. it was just on my mind.
often I find that people make assumptions of what I believe based on what they believe instead of actually reading my words.
mental illness is not treated by pills but by the Holy Spirit. only GOD can heal mind or body.
without God allowing cells to replicate, what would happen to the human body within a day?
Paul said with the mind he serves Christ,so if someone is in sin their mind is not right,so they would be mentally ill,and the Bible does say that God does give us the spirit of a sound mind, which indicates if you are not with God then your mind is not sound and mentally stable.
I was teasing NodMyHeadLikeYeah.
We do have to repent of our sin.
My goal here is not to talk about deliverance or to argue about generational curses. I simply wanted to show how sin can cause mental illness. This is a very serious topic and one that needs to be recognized and addressed. It's a given that people with alterior motives are going jump into the discussion and attempt disrupt the conversation.
Now think about this. The sins of my mother's parents cause my mother's mental illness and from what I have heard it was the sins of my mother's grandparents which caused the issues in her parents also. This is the reason why I relate this problem with generational curses, because it was the sins of the fathers which caused the backsliding of the nation of Israel which God allowed to continue to the third or fourth generation before He assigned a judge or a prophet to come forward to lead the nation into repentance / revival. Often times alcoholism, child abuse, pedophilia etc., while not genetic, are conditions that seem to be passed down through one family for a handful of generations. Apparently anger issues run in my family which lead to abuse through several generations. Thank God that the abuse ended with my generation. Ironically, those in my extended family who have embraced Christianity have been spared and the abuse and the need for medications while those who insist on living in sin are still being destroyed by what is going on.
I could care less what everyone's doctrinal views are, the simple truth is that this stuff is very real in today's society and chances are it is happening in your own family, church, or circle of influence. It's time that the church stop arguing over nonsense, recognize what's going on and prepare to do something about it because only Christ can bring this stuff to an end.
The sad thing about my mother's frame of mind is that, because of the enviroment that she grew up in, she is encapable of comprehending how her irrational selfish behavior is indeed sinful and effects others negatively. Fortunately, my brothers and I are completely aware, are well adjusted, and I some of the most awesome nephews and a niece to show for it.![]()
oh ok, just wanted to make sure.
not too long ago we had people and may still have people who think you can reach sinless perfection (before death or the coming of Christ) and become mini-godlets.
The Lord did tell us to be perfect:
You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matt 5:48 RSV
The more perfect we are, the less trouble we see.
perfect is referring to maturity in Christ and displaying the fruits of the Spirit not a state of "sinless perfection" to be obtained before death or the second coming of Christ.
no one has ever been sinless except Jesus and no one will be without His blood to cleanse them. though some are held blameless.
The Lord told us to repent of our sin. When we sin, we bring trouble into our lives. It’s best to resist the urge to sin.
In reading these posts one thing came to mind.
The words Jesus spoke on the cross.
"Father forgive them, for they know not what they do."
God bless
pickles
Amen AnandaHya, for God asks us to forgive as He has forgiven us.yes and if God forgives them, what stops us from following His example and do the same?
If a believer has a stronghold in their life that is bringing them into captivity to sin you don't charge them with a (GCS). Getting someone to admit to a stronghold of sin is not how you get them to overcome it.
Something to think about. How can you expect someone to overcome a sin issue when they don't believe they have a sin issue, or worse, they believe that they can indulge in their sin without worry of judgement or penalty?
No need to answer, we've had simular discussions like this before and it doesn't accomplish anything other than people getting offended.
Just think about it for a while....
